Nationals get under Figueroa's skin in Mets loss

Nelson Figueroa was frustrated by his own pitching, that's for sure. But that doesn't fully explain the vitriol the Mets ' starting pitcher unleashed on the Washington Nationals last night after a 10-4 loss at ...

Nelson Figueroa's job is to pitch and not make social comments on the other team. Players cheer for their teammates, they weren't taunting or distracting Figueroa in any way. You always hear comments coming from the dugouts and that is part of the game. Someone needs to sit down with him and get him to FOCUS! You see I have been saying this for a long time. these things are fundamental. Composure, defense, running bases correctly, bunting men over, etc., etc. I thin the Mets are basically a 500 team because they waste spring training on who knows what-I know what, putzing around instead of getting ready for the season-and this is the result.

The Nationals looked like a Little League team from the Bad News Bears movies. They looked ridiculous and unprofessional. Please don't give me they were "cheering" for their teammates. Elijah Dukes looked like an infant. I like Manny Acta. However, it is poor reflection on him and speaks to a lack of discipline on his team. However, that is his problem. The best way to treat a team like that is to beat them. Figueroa amd the Mets didn't do that. That is all on them.

Figueroa should use his concentration on where the catcher has set up his glove for the pitch rather than on the other team's dugout. Nelson, this isn't golf where they hold up the "quiet" sign. Think how this guy would have wilted in the bad old days when team's really rode each other from the dugout.

I heard Cablevision wanted to buy the Mets and give them to Japan, but the Japs didn't want them.

lets see, he has a crap game, cant locate a pitch to save his life and hes worried about what the other dugout is doing? guess all the fans cheering and yelling really get to him. if you have to comment on the noise from the field and stands, wear earplugs. Wouldnt help your crummy pitching, but you wouldnt hear them telling you, you suck! and im a die hard mets fan!

Joe Smith was just sent down to AAA. Not Jorge Sosa...but Joe Smith. NO, this isn't a joke.

This team is going absolutely nowhere this year and it honestly is time for the fanbase to start coming to terms with it. Your life will be much less stressful.

We have a manager and GM that are run by veteran favortism, spanish players, and money. That doesn't win anything. We toss aside Joe Smith, who outside of Wagner is clearly our best reliever. I'm at a loss for words. You send down your best reliever and keep Jorge Sosa who is absolutely worthless to this team. Why is that Omar? You have some explaining to do....Shea is only going to get more and more hostile with these types of moves, and this type of play.

Furthermore, this is following a complete beat down last night from one of the worst offensive teams in baseball. 2-2 on a homestand vs 2 of the worst teams in MLB. Awesome. The Mets will never get more than 5 games over .500 They are as medicore as a team gets. Just wait for Philly to go on their run...the Mets will be eating their dust, and not even sniffing the playoffs come September.

It's almost Memorial Day people. Nothing is going to change. This is the team your paying for. Willie Randolph, at the very least needs to be shown the door. He clearly has lost his players, and his motivational techniques are garbage.

Well we have a real problem here. I am thinking they kept Sosa because he could be used as a spot starter. I am not saying he is any good at it, or that this was their thinking, but it is the only reason for this move that I can think of. This is the team that let Tyler Yates get away, a good reliever who is coming into his own. The METS are not as good as the Marlins, Braves, or Phillies, if they were, they wouldn't be where there at. I sure hope the rumor I heard is true that Philly may not go after Ryan Howard due to the money he will want, maybe we can get a Delgado replacement!

A guy who is 2 - 3 with a 5.12 ERA has no right to call anybody else a girl. Maybe Figueroa should worry more about losing his job and less about who is ragging him. I'm sure he didn't get a standing ovation from the Met fans last night either.

Whoever wants Howard can keep him. Who needs a guy that strikes out 200 times a year? The Braves had one. His name is Andrew Jones. He is not doing Torre any favors in LA.

Actually Joe Smith hasnt been sent down yet. Matt Wise who will be called up is pitching in Florida until the Mets figure out who they are sending down. Joe Smith has options on his contract which would allow him to be sent down without any problems. Sosa has no options and can decline being sent down...the only option the Mets would have with him is releasing him and eating his 2 million dollar contract. The Mets will gdt back on track and go on a run like they did in 2000 and then all the cry baby met fans will come flocking back. Where have all the true met fans gone. All they do now is whine and complain like Figueroa. The fans need to stop whining. LETS GO METS!!!I still believe!

Keith and Gary in the SNY telecast last night were talking about this subject when Smith came in.They both agreed that Smith was "here to stay". I'tt be curious to hear their reactions tonight. Another head scratcher from this team.

Yeah, as soon as I read your response, I should have realized that if he ever became a MET his BA would drop 50 points, he would go zero for fifty with runners in scoring position-thanks for bringing me back to reality. I guess I'll go to sleep every night thanking my lucky stars that we have a real first baseman in Delgado-sometimes I am just a fool!

Let's release Sosa and Heilman while were at it. Sosa is horrible, not other way to explain it. He is last year's Mota. Keep Smith, Bring up Wise and tell Sosa to not the let door hit him in the a-ss on the way out.

As a an athlete in any sport, you must have a thick skin. Figueroa doesn't, and now that he made his ridiculous comment, I wouldn't be surprised if every team The Mets play this year, gives him the business when he pitches. I am a Met fan, but he desreves it all the way.

Go hard after Texiera. It's basically between the Mets and Yankees. It would be foolish to let him slip away when he becomes a free agent at the end of the year. The Mets already have a nice relationship with Boras.
