New pool in Chambersburg park could cost as much as $10 million

It's only money. The average American never worries about such minor details...as the current housing bust demonstrates. Buy four pools. One for each side of town.

If you don't like the idea of improving the pool, then stop complaining and go to a Council meeting to express your concerns!!!! |

This needs done and certainly makes a lot more sense that giving the YMCA this amount of money. A lot of families use this pool and you just have to pay a daily or seasonal fee to use it. The Y will involve a membership fee 2-3 times what you can afford. I realize the Park pool is in use 3 months of the year, but it is entirely for the public! This is what I intend my taxes to be used for......totally public works and benefits.

Great, we are so lucky in Chambersburg, that we have a park with pool. Spend the money and keep the park as a very nice place to go with family.
Look at the rails to trails, i am amazed at how many people use it for recreation. Thank you council and Mr. Newcomer for all that you do for our town. |

Population of Chambersburg per the 2000 census is 17862 people. If this project costs 7 million that will equated to approximately 391 dollars for every person. Put it to vote if you really want to find out the will of the people. 391 dollars is significant, but still a lot cheaper than most 1 week summer vacations, per person.

Nice - but that is not really representative of how the pool will be financed. Businesses pay taxes too. And - there are WAY MORE people here now than in 2000!!! |

Why not lease the land to a private enterprise and put in a real water theme park. Make it a destination to draw up and down the interstate. Reduced rates to boro or county residents. The private industry sector could build it for a lot less, a lot better, fair wage employees to maintain, no boro liability. Other communities across the country are looking at options such as this and other outsourcing measures to save the taxpayers. There is not reason the boro should not 'make' money on such an enterprise rather than fund it each year.

I'm surprised that Chambersburg School District
hasn't built a pool as this one |

With gas the cost it is and everything else going thru the roof, it is nice to know that there is someplace nice and well-run to take my children in the summer. I want them outside and away from the TV/video games. I pay my taxes anyway, please put them towards something, like this park, that we can all enjoy.

They are considering giving the YMCA $7 million to build new pools that you will no access to unless you can afford a Y membership! |

Are you quite certain the boro doesnt make money on the pool as it is? |
|
Really??!
There goes more tax money! It's a "public swimming hole" for folks with no pool at home. Sure, I bet the people I see going to the Park pool are highly interested in competitive swimming! If so, let's start charging $25 a day admission, like a REAL "water park." C'mon now! "The second concept, which was the facility most discussed as a potential option, would consist of an 11,755-square-foot leisure pool, with a lily pad walk, multiple slides and a 12-foot deep section with diving boards that could be laned off for competitive swimming..." |

YaaHoo a NEW pool !!! That would be GREAT !! That thing was built in 1969!!(and opened in 1970)
How 'bout a HIGH dive??? And are you gonna get RID of that piece of CRAP mini-golf course!!!??? |

Hey Douchenozzle - is there anything preventing corporate America from building a "REAL water park" here now???? Yes - lets just cast aside the past 35 years of tax investment. Chambersburg To Corporate America - "Please, OWN US!" |

Just make sure they pick the concept with the lazy river. I use the public pool daily. Not only is this a great place locally to relax in the summer but it gives our children something to do during the summer months rather than play video games. The pool currently draws people from outside our region. It won't take long for the recreation department to see a return. Also, compare the millions they are suggesting it will take to reface the current pool compared to building new. I think the extra funds are worth the price. Herb, I'll be there on 8/25 to show my support.

They'd only turn around and sell it to a foreign corporation after operating at a loss for consecutive quarters. Of course they would give the CEO a great severance package first. |
|
I totally agree!! |
|
|
why not try to come up with some sort of way to go green on this project?
|
|
|
Fill that thing with cement and use it as just open space.
It's a tax and money drain - oops that's right they paid a lot of $$$ on that a few years ago too, now didn't they?? What a money pit -- LOL -- just like a home pool. Drain it, fill it, and forget it. If not, then let me know when those competitive lane swimming events are! LOL |
|
If you want to go green take vitamin B6 and you surely will go green. |
