Silence golden for Jeremy Hermida and Marlins

The inside fastball jumped off Jeremy Hermida's bat and carried easily over the ivy-covered wall in right, nearly making it all the way onto Sheffield Avenue.

Nice win boys! These close games are giving me an ulcur but I'll take the win. ESPN is all on the Mets and the Phils to take the division which is fine so the Marlins can quietly make they're moves. Keep it up. By the way, when was the last time the Mets or Phillies won a World Series? 1969 &1986 Mets! 1980 Phillies, their only WS victory haha r u kiddin' me. 1997 & 2003 Marlins are the more recent winners. Go Marlins!

Hey Mike, 12:05AM and we got this baby up here. You know the action on Rush Street doesn't even start until after 12 so you could have put this up first and THEN gone out and had a real good time.

While you're out and about and at the game tomorrow why don't you ask some of the local writers if in their long histories of following baseball they have EVER seen a more PITIFUL and HORRIFIC wearer of a Major League uniform than Paul Hoover?/ Look at Paul's face as he gets in the box, he realizes that he has no chance and is just hoping "Please a few more days of this pro rated minimum of 390,000 and some of this great meal allowance. I sure don't want to get my sorry butt back to Albuquerque but it's inevitable"

Paul, PLEASE don't take this personally. Most anyone in AMERICA who was paid an inordinate amount for a job they were not qualified for would JUSTIFIABLY take the money. I blame the organization that had a guy last year who The YANKEES are now trying to get, BUT they wanted to save 4 Million. That is fine because NO WAY did they realize they would be this good, but Lo and BEHOLD they are real good. NOW however they are stuck with you, Rabelo, Baker and Little Mattie. The only one of you that has a chance is Baker, but he will probably be contaminated from just watching you guys swing the bat. Well, probably not correctable now, too much to get Salty from Texas, David Ross would be an improvement but Reds see how bad you guys are so they are trying to hold the Marlins up.

So just keep taking the money and investing it wisely because after what scouts and GMs have seen this year I would say your careers as baseball players are going to be short lived.

Paul, In closing, you do realize if game had gone 18 innings and you had played whole game you would have struck out 7 or 8 times and that would have been way beyond the Golden Sombrero.

Is it possible--and at first I thought it was silly--that the All Star performance got in Uggla's head?? That power generating, hand off the bat swing is tough enough to maintain under normal circumstances, BUT if he is now thinking about it--Well, a sports psychologist may be a good idea PRONTO. Never heard of Steve Blass Disease in a hitter, but from looks of his at bats something is going down.

1. Stop bashing Jeremy Hermida. He is 24 years old. There are players in the minors (like Dallas McPherson) whom we go goo-gaa-gaa about, and they are older than Hermida. Have patience with the guy. He's a 2nd half player, as well.

2. Regarding Dan Uggla...Lou, he's coming back to life. Dan Uggla (entering the 2nd half of the season) had an .OPS 161 points higher than it was all of last season. He's a streaky player. It's funny how this guy was supposed to get a long-term contract, according to the fans, when in fact he's 28 years old (prime). He's not going to get any better. He will be gone by the offseason, as we trade for prospects (we will steal some prospects), and Chris Coghlan will be our next 2B. Mark my words.

3. Paul Hoover sucks. He's not even a Major League caliber player. Matt Treanor will be back soon. At least he's a nice backup.

4. The defense
First off...I heard complaints that everyone was out of position, the other night. Hanley at shortstop is 5th in RZR, and 6th in OOZ amongst NL shortstops. Willingham, imo, is not a bad LF'er (he catches the ball, and makes throws like he did today). Hermida's not bad out there either...he's just an idiot sometimes, and loses concentration. Cody Ross is NOT a CF'er, but he continues to improve out there, and is not costing this team any games, with his defense.
Which leads me to point #5 (the real problem).

5. Mike Jacobs and his under .300 .OBP need to go. There's a guy in the minors by the name of McPherson with 35 HR's, and an .OBP that exceeds .400 (.401 to be exact). Move Cantu to 1B ( a position he's more comfortable at), and take the WORST (BY FAR) defensive 1B out of there. His .RZR is dead last amongst all 1B (who qualify as starters) in MLB...and dead last...by a lot. The second worse is Conor Jackson...and he was already moved out of the position to LF!

What is it going to take to get Dallas up here?

Also, I'd like to point this out, as well, much like I pointed it out with Hermida. Cameron Maybin is only 21 years old. 21! Whoever called him a dud the other night...please apologize. A little patience with prospects is always good. Not everyone is Hanley Ramirez, excelling from the get-go.

Mike Jacobs needs to cut down on his swing especially when he's up against a pitcher with a good change or curve. His sweeping swings will connect every now and then I'll give you that but I don't want to see him in a 2 out situation with a tying or go ahead runner in scoring position. I'd rather Alfredo Amezaga or even dare I say Robert Andino in those situations because they just concentrate on making contact and getting the ball out of the infield. We have to thank our lucky stars we have Cantu! Mr. Clutch! Go Marlins!

Maybe ESPN talks about the Mets because they are in 1st place. ESPN talks mainly about teams that most of the country is interested in, or the most popular. not by how many worldseries a team has won. If the media in south florida has a hard time getting interest in the Marlins, they why would ESPN even bother trying with the rest of the country?

Jacbos was a catcher until he sign with us. His numbers would be good if he was able to return to catching. Send him down see if he can and bring Dallas up, however Dallas may not be an imporvement at 3rd base.

Erick, I am the guilty party! I still say Maybin is a dud! Hermida is in the same boat! If Uggla doesn't get his act together, he will be rowing the boat. Uggla needs to stop the enhancements and try to change his style and go for avg instead of the HR.

What a bunch of baloney.

I really don't care what ESPN reports on because they used to be a terrific sports station but now they become the sports version of a Hollywood gossip column.

Still, looking back, ESPN talked about the Mets endlessly when they were in third and fourth place while the Marlins and Phillies were in first.

To use your philosphy about the nations interest in your team, the Mets aren't even the most popular in their home town, much less the nation.

Do you really think that someone in Biloxi cares one bit how the Mets do???

Earlier this week there were several articles about how the nation is watching the Marlins but no one in S. Florida seems to care. I believe it was Dave Hyde carrying on about how there should be the water cooler talk, people talking on the streets, call in shows etc. You know what the saddest thing of all is---THE MARLINS OWNERSHIP IS SPENDING LITTLE TIME TALKING ABOUT THIS TEAM!!! Samson has a weekly talk show on 790--sponsored I must say by Braman Honda!! Wednesday he spent 90% of his time talking again about B rated movies. It's unbelievable that MLB allows him to be the front man for this team. This is the Marlins flagship radio. Samson should insist that the calls either be about the Marlins or that his segment isn't a call in show. Instead--he shows that he really could care less about the attendance. After all--his true thoughts were expressed when he dismantled in 05. At that time he said--it wouldn't matter if 38,000 fans attended each game. Unless and until Loria and company got a stadium there would be no Marlin team. THESE ARE HIS WORDS. Believe me--my family does care and reads everything pertaining to this team. I'd love to see them sell the team. I don't care if they make a profit. Sell and get your rears out of town. Please MLB just don't let them dismantle again or move. The Marlins need ownership that inspires rather than patronizes and turns people off. The solution is new ownership not relocation. By the way MLB sports writers (see mlb.com )--the headlines from yesterday's game should have said Marlins win with late homer and Johnson shines again rather than Cubs lose with late homer and Notre Dame star called up to majors. GO MARLINS--we have the same won loss record today as we did on July 25 2003!!!!!!!!!!

I would play Amezaga at 2nd base and bench Uggla especially against pitchers like Hardin. Any finesse pitcher that has a good changeup or vicious curve, I would bench Uggla. He strikes out much too much and leaves too many runs in scoring position especially after the All Star break. Is Uggla's ankle definitely healed ?

We have one guy who has had a sprained ankle all year! These cry babies are too much for an old ball player to cope with! Spank them and send them back to one of our liberal universities so they can learn more BS!

I hope I dont jinx them, but our bullpen has been terrific, especially Gregg. Yesterday was the first time that I remember Hermida making a significant contribution to a win in almost a year. The guy does nothing well. As far as Uggla, he's in a slump, but deserves patience as long as his ankle is improving.

How long do you want to wait for Uggla to start hitting? Any pitcher that has a good changeup-Uggla is a strikeout victim. No one will throw a fastball to Uggla until he learns how to hit the change up

Uggla's been great for this team for years. Led the league in HR's till he got hurt. I give him plenty of slack as long as he's ok physically. Some posters wanted to throw Gregg to the wolves after a couple bad starts. Some fans booed Mike Lowell out of town after 1 average year. When guys have been good for a long time, I think patience is deserved.
