For not reporting on UCF, we seem to read about sh*** team every day. We all know that George is a liar. If he wasn't a liar, is would be able to put on his resume he coached at ND. Is still find it funning that at higher learning facily would hire a person that lied about getting a masters degree. I say quit reporting on UCF on everything. Make them spread the word about their university. Maybe when people quit reading about them, going to events like plays, music programs, etc. And they have half filled programs. They are only hurting the folks that support UCF. Quit putting them in the Paper.

Controversy Sells wrote: UCFs student body and fan base needs to stay off this site and cancel their subscriptions. Dr Hitt needs to up the anty and ban OS staff from any UCF events until they correct their accusations in print. Sometimes you just have to take a stand. Sadly, I fear the controversy will only help the ailing paper sell more copies.. Of course it does. And having a coach that has a tainted past easily found on the Internet makes things even worse.

Sounds like you're whining to me, Mike. If your paper reported facts, we wouldn't be talking about this.

Good for you, George! It's about time people stopped giving the Slantinel any credence. It's not a "news" paper, it's a biased rag. Good for you George, keep it up.

Good for George O'Leary! Its about time someone stood up to your guilty until proven innocent articles. Now you believe you can threaten him by hurting their recruiting program if he continues to boycott the Sentinel. I think all UCF coaches should boycott the Sentinel, until they get rid of you.

Let's turn the tables, shall we? Rather than saying that UCF is now a program in which the only major paper in town won't cover it...how about this - The Orlando Sentinel is such a piece of crap rag paper that even a mid-tier football program located in the city doesn't give this rag paper enough credibility to even acknowledge it exists.

The Sentinel has always been a paper more interested in pushing an agenda than reporting the news.
During World War II, they literally would not capitalize the nation of "Japan." Even the final headline, "Victory Over japan," used a lower case "j." Not a hint of that watchdog critical approach there, huh?
And in the '60s, the Orlando Sentinel became a political puppeteer, and pushed long and hard for the new I-4 highway to stretch through Orlando. That battle, obviously, was won. And of course the Sentinel benefited...it went from small-town paper with small circulation to big-town paper.
The UCF deal? As much as out-of-towners (Tampans) like to bash UCF, there are a lot (A LOT) of people who read the Sentinel for the UCF coverage. That much is evident from Bianchi's whiny "please talk to us" ramblings. People care about UCF. They cared enough to read and comment on 17 stories about a player's death, and they care enough to continue reading convoluted columns about O'Leary's silence, all of which thinly veil their true purpose: they need O'Leary, and UCF, to sell more papers.
This isn't a moral issue. This isn't a values issue. This isn't "what's right and what's wrong." If it was, the Sentinel would admit that they went overboard in their investigative approach, and they would apologize. No, no. A newspaper can attempt to assert its commercial will, and that's what we're seeing unfold before our eyes.
A magnificent case study, though, isn't it?

Mike, stop trying to be Nancy Grace.. try reporting on sports. You are not an investigative reporter by any far stretch of the imagination.

The Slantinel has always treated UCF as second class citizens. This is just another attempt of a "hachtet job" by the Slantinel, just like the "fair & balance" reporting they did with Coach Bergman. Bianci's a hack, he should be writing for the Enquirer

eaglecoach, errorfree, fltom, jay, Disgrunteled UCF fan... if you guys hate this paper so much then wtf are you guys doing here??? Maybe that UCF degree you got didn't teach you that the Sentinel is the ONLY source for LOCAL news. You really believe the TV stations here do their own news gathering/investigations? Guess where they get their indepth stories from??? O'Leary is a liar... his past has proven that, so there is every reason for this paper to question a young mens death under his supervision. And... he still hasn't told the Sentinel WHAT actually was incorrectly reported in the stories...

In my opinion, The Slant created this situation they are in and not UCF. The only losers here is the paper. They will lose 'eyeballs' with the lack of UCF coverage. UCF has gotten to the point without newspaper coverage anyway. I see this article as a form of blackmail. Go ahead and put UCF coverage on page D8. That is where you have always put UCF anyway.

The involvement of young and minority individuals in tragedy, in particular, seems an irresistible magnet for those who practice such cruelty." -Manning Pynn (X-Ombudsmen @ Orlando Sentinel)

The only image that is tarnished is the Sentinel. Now you are howling because he won't talk to you after your made up you mind on his guilt or innocence over the tragic death. Unknown sources don't sit well with me as it all to often is a ploy to make up your own conclusion with no facts. He has every right not to speak to you without YOU setting the record straight on what you said about the situation.

There is a new O'Leary story almost every day and the UCF people come here and cry like heck. Makes me wonder if some of the so-called UCF "fans" are from other schools trying to make UCF look bad.

I think what Mike hasn't come to realize is that the written media is the one that is becoming more and more inconsequential. The days of writing anything you please (whether it is true or not) under the threat of newspaper retaliation or exposure is over.
The Sentinel DID take advantage of a profoundly tragic situation, published any rumor or brain vomit they could get their hands on, and added to the immeasurable grief of the family and the college. Then Mike has the pathetic temerity to, once again, publish a threat because the Sentinel is now reaping the consequences of unprofessional behavior.

Harry Stotle wrote: Bianci's remarks about what newspapers are NOT supposed to do--not "investigate and make news"--is part of what is historically wrong with the Sentinel, which has been to take what is handed to them as PR and treat it as if if were truthful news. Bianchi also has the Sentinel ego, thinking that FSU's Bowden even recognized him when he said, "How you doin," something he says to everybody. The Sentinel has given UCF short shrift from its earliest days--not just in sports, but in all areas. Now that the university has the largest undergrad. enrollment in the country, it can't be ignored, but the Sentinel still hasn't managed to get a handle on it. actually, Ohio St has the largest undergrad enrollment in the country. In Fact, UCF is #6 in enrollment, behind OSU, UF, Ariz St, Texas, and Minnesota.

Wah! wah! wah! What's the matter Bianchi? Another state college football coach won't talk to you? You openly admit you "shred" legendary college football coaches and now you whine because you can't get another to talk to you? I can't blame them. I wouldn't talk to you clowns either. Other than reading Brian Schmitz's coverage of the Magic the sports section is better reserved for wrapping dead fish in and throwing them in the garbage.
