Southern discomfort

Without a doubt, this is the worst Maryland game I have ever watch. The team looked so unprepared. The quarterback situation is horrible. If they put on purple shirts, they would look like the Ravens. I am getting tired of Friedgen crying saying it is his fault. Does he want us to feel sorry for him? Its going to be a long season. This was the worst defeat for him in 9 years and it oculd get worst.

I think the Fat Lady is warming up. She's about to come get the Fat Coach and take him away from College Park.

This loss is the one that broke the camel's back. That is inexcusable and he can make all the excuses he wants but the bottom line is that the offense is a joke. Not just in 2008, but in past seasons as well. It's time for a new Turtle Football Coach.

This loss should seal Friedgen's fate. Maryland deserves so much more than this embarrassment of a team.

That game was for all the Md Kool Aid drinkers that don't think Ralph should be fired. That was a absolute disgraceful performance, the coaching staff didn't have a clue what they were doing.It is so time for Ralph to be fired , this program has gone progressively backwards . Debbie Yow has given huge contract extensions to both coaches that have been complete disappointments the last few years. But we will have the in denial fans come on here today and say Ralph brought this program back from the dead just like they do in basketball. See it doesn't work like that anymore, you don't get a lifetime get out of jail card anymore, either produce or get fired. Stop leaving in the past talk to me about what is going on right now. This team is in total disarray and that falls squarely on Ralph's shoulders.

Duffner and Vanderlinden would have been fired for less. Wow. That was a fraud of a game. Maryland could and should have run the football ALL game, pounded it. And yet they didn't. So is it bad recruiting, bad coaching, bad execution or all of the above?

It seams we are finding out the the real brains behind Ralph's ealier success was his previous Offensive and Defensive Coordinators. Ralf has sucked since they left.

The Terps Football team is PATHETIC. Ralph Freidgen has not proven he can win with players he's recruited. How much longer do the Terps have to be a second rate football program? I don't think we need to contend for a national title every year, but it would be nice if we could beat a good high school football team, which we obviously can't. If the players aren't listening to him by the 2nd game of the season, he needs to go.

The good news is there is nowhere to go but up. I'm not one for jumping on the hater bandwagon - I'm a life-long and loyal Terps fan. However, one thing with the last few Friedgen teams has frustrated me in particular...clock management!!

Last night Maryland gets the ball with 2:30 left in the half down by 3 and has ZERO sense of urgency. They run for 5 yards, make 7 yards passes, etc. The quarterback looks around for a while...the lineman take their time getting back to the huddle. The coaching staff just watches in beffuddlement. Hey Ralph, you have 40 years experience as a head coach so I know you are aware of how the good teams do it...can't you let your guys see how they do a 2-minute drill in the NFL. Watch vintage Brett Favre or John Elway. The quarterbacks throw the ball for 15 yards and everyone SPRINTS upfield (even the fatty linemen) to spike the ball in the rare case that the guy doesn't get out of bounds. Good teams score in those situations. But we run the ball for 5 yards, take our long sweet time about it, let 30 or so seconds run off the clock, and then burn a time out...nothing could be more frustrating.

Hey we all have bad days, and I love the Fridge...but that's bad coaching...he should set a good example and DEMAND more from his players. And as far as clock management goes, Steffy was even worse than Turner, so it wasn't just one guy.

Some of the most poorly called plays on offense I can remember. Was this Franklin? Is he trying to set up a return to his guy Steffy?

It was horrific. I watched it on Comcast, and they had a clearly Blue Raider partisan in the booth, and even HE was questioning MD's play calling. He was "well, the Terps seem to have found a weak spot on the Raiders left side for defending against the run". You know, the one Scott scored the TD on. And MD started going up the middle. If not for the Heyward-Bay run, this would be a true debactle. You found a weakness, but they would not exploit it.

This is not pre-season Franklin. You can experiment when you are AHEAD!!!! When you are behind, you take the weakness and exploit it.

Last night's performance was disgusting to say the least. If they had been playing a real opponent, it would have been a 50 point defeat.

The sad thing is, this is the second opponent (Northern IL) in the Fridge Era where they have UMD to hang up as their programs greatest victory, on their turf no less, and use it as a building block. We should be so proud, Ralph.

Is to Much Darrius not good for the TERPS. In two games their were three interceptions forced to Darrius. When will we learn and start getting the ball to other players in the passing game. They Keep talking about how fast Isaiah Williams is how many passes went his way this season how about Danny O.

The Terps bite! They will be LUCKY to win 2 games this year - nice!

Depth? Last year maybe with all the injuries. UMD hasn't been able to score or stop anyone 3 of the last 4 years. There's plenty of talent on his teams, Ralf just can't maximize it.

Look if we are honest with ourselves, both Ralph and Gary Williams have suffered since they lost valuable assistance coaches. Ralph lost both his offensive and defensive coordinators and they have stunk since.Gary Williams lost all his great assistant coaches and they have stunk ever since. The head coaches get all the credit when they do good, and trust me they should get all the blame when they stink. But it doesn't work here at Md, because all these delusional fans will fight you to the death defending these 2 coaches saying that they brought 2 dead programs back from the dead. In Gary case that was 19 years ago and in Ralph's case it was with the previous coaches recruits.While we should be thankful for both teams success you can't leave in the past forever and should be judged on your recent performance which has been poor at best.

It's easy to bash Ralph and the Turtles this morning especially after such a lackluster performance but I think that Maryland will rebound from this stinging loss.
The key ... Go with Portis at QB. The guy is a better athlete than both Steffy and Turne. He can run and has a big arm.
WIth him at QB the Terps have a shot - without him, a losing season is at hand!

Wow!! Speechless.... Even I know DHB can break it open but apparently the whole league knows also. Yesterday on Scouts.com , DHB was mentioned as the #3 underclassmen wide out prospect in the draft which means most likely a lottery pick. Everyone on the field is watching him which leaves others open, especially when Turner looks directly at him from the time he releases from the line which gives everyone on the field a "good guess" of where the ball is going. Check off your receivers Turner, you have options and other playmakers. If you incorporate all the wide outs, no one will be able to stop DHB, or the Terps. I'm not stressing it, the Terps will come to play against Cali. Its like a game of b-ball, you play with scrubs, you tend to look like one. Suck it up Terps!!

I TOTALLY disagree, there is much more talent at MD than when V was the coach...people HAVE TO stop saying that. The real problem is that DONT HAVE A QUARTERBACK!!! you tell me the receivers back then are better and faster than the ones that are on the team. You tell me the D. Scott can be as good as those other backs. Simply put...when you dont have a QB to run the show then you won't win. Fridge has better recruits at EVERY other position except QB and ANYONE that thinks different simply doesn't know talent!! Think about it Merriman, Vernon Davis, Heyward Bay, Madieu Williams..they have had beter talent...they just have to go on Ebay and get a quality QB!!!

I'm glad to see that Ralph's memory is still good (Northern Illinois loss in 2003....then Gator Bowl). It may be the only thing that does still work on this team. What does it say about the coaching staff when they notice a lack of concentration by the players at practice the week before the game and are unable to alter the players approach? Time to clean house a little and revoke a scholarship or two (hand-out to a dummy) or a coaching position (hand-out to a fatty).
