He engineered one of the greatest comebacks in UM history @ BC on a severely sprained ankle. His short tenure at Miami helped pave the way to the NC in '01. I always wished him luck in his baseball career and appreciated his contributions to the U. To dissociate with him now that he has fallen on hard times is disingenous. He IS part of the family, it IS a black eye and I'll be praying that he gets it together.

I'm not trying to disassociate him or his limited contributions as an athlete at UM, but the fact is that he hasn't been a student or an athlete at UM in nearly a decade. In the span of his entire athletic career, his single season as a starter at UM pales in comparison to the 11 seasons in MLB. Why is it that a decade after he leaves UM early to persue said MLB career and he gets into some trouble does that reflect on UM? Did UM cause his to be an alleged drug dealer/user? As far as I remember and can tell, he never got into any trouble prior to or during his tenure at UM. Maybe MLB was the negative influence on him. I wonder if rivals of the Devilrays/Reds/Senators are also on their forums making ignorant remarks about Kelly since he played for those teams, and much more recently than he did at UM.

Well, it is true that the education system in florida ranks in the bottom 5 of all 50 states, not sure if that is higher education or not, but having a degree from one of the 3 big schools in florida hardly compares to a prestigious northeastern school, in fact, not even close.
Do you have a link that shows that the Florida public school system ranks in in the bottom 5? And in what catagory(s)?

I searched the http://www.nea.org/edstats website, as well USDofE websites and could not find any ranking or statistic that confirmed that. Most of the catagories had Florida's public school system consistently ranked in the 20's thru low 30's. I didn't see any catagories where Florida was ranked in the bottom 5.

Do you have any facts to back up your claim, or did you just pull that claim out of your butt? I'm certainly not claiming the Florida public school system is anything to brag about, but at least state verifiable facts and don't make stuff up as you go along.

He left to play baseball. Why this is even tied to UM I have no clue. But since we have been clean for some time now I guess you have to go back pretty far to get stories.

anybody dumb enough to get caught deserves to have the book thrown at him. As far as gaytor and FSU responses to this past UM player look at your own glass houses before casting another stone. We are all guilty in some small way for not educating all of them better.

Stupid pot laws. 20 grams is less than 1 ounce. 28 grams = 1 ounce per the Urban Dictionary ( no pun intended ). I seriously doubt Ken Kelly is dealing. More like personal use quantity. Leave it to the cops to bump the charges. 40 million Americans smoke weed. That is a lot of criminals.

He was a Tampa Bay Catholic Crusader for 4 years; spent 11 years in the MLB with the Devilrays, the Reds, and the Senators; and a couple of years as a Plant City Raider. He started a couple of games during 1 season for Miami, so all the "blame" gets applied towards his Cane affiliation. That makes sense...
what happened to all that "U" pride..seems to disappear when they make the news for doing something illegal

who cares about academics when you're talking football - will they try to be the smartest while being the worst football players?
