Less money, all of the fun: Families try 'stay-cations'

This summer could have been an instruction booklet on how to kill vacations. Take record-high fuel prices, tack on airport hassles, surround with economic angst and you've built the season of "stay-cation," a ...

Why would anyone from FLORIDA go to Mexico for the beach? We went on a cruise to the Caribbean once and we were bored out of our skulls! Oh look, sand and ocean, just like every beach in Florida.
And Hilton instead of Hampton Inn? No, Doubletree has cookies!
You fools and your money go waste it on silly trips to places that have exactly what you have at home, we're going diving in the Keys--like we do every year!

Amen...We spent a week on Cozumel. The beach was pretty, but not as nice as Sanibel. We too were pretty bored....other than drinking & the beach, there really wasn't much else to do ( we did fly to a Mayan Ruin in Central Mexico--no big whoop )
After 9-11 I was afraid to fly and decided that I could travel in the South East and still not see everything....we did Stone Mountain, Callaway Gardens, St. Simon's Island and even found a place in South Georgia that looks like a small version of the Grand Canyon called Providence Canyon.
The fear of flying only lasted about a year and we are back in the friendly skies...however, I love the idea of a Staycation. Less time & money traveling = more time & money for FUN !

I am not fan of Bush, however you are a total moron if you thing everything is HIS fault. Take a high school Civics course......Congress and the Senate are the ones who make the rules.......NOT the President.

If I was going to stay at Gaylord Palms with my family, we might as well fly somewhere for that kind of money. Besides, they are now charging $12 just to PARK and walk around the stores inside. Unbelievable!

First of all, their financial means are none of your business. Diving in the Keys, gee, can I have your autograph? Hope you forget to fill your air tank next time and jump in.

A small version of the Grand Canyon in Southern Georgia??? It's called erosion, sweetie. You live life on the edge.

One word. Cenotes.

Some of the best diving to be had is in MX.

Florida has great diving don't get me wrong.

Obviously "chi chi" you don't have anything nice to say to anyone on the forum and your comments are not even relative to the story. You sound like a miserable person.

On a brighter note, I hiked and photographed Providence Canyon in S. Georgia. Yes, it is erosion, but it is VERY cool indeed ( and I DO live on the edge !)

Congress does make the rules but those rules have to be signed by the President unless his veto is overruled by 2/3 majority by both the house and senate.

Last I checked the republicans had control of the house, senate and the executive office for 6 or 7 years.

I think we could agree that we have been screwed by both sides.

You may want to re-check your congressional statistics, they appear somewhat askew of the actual facts.

Why bring facts into the discussion? It's easier to just blame Bush.....ask Chet if you don't believe me.

Well I certainly did not intend to stump anyone with the truth.
