I thought the Original question had to do with Kobe and Michael ? Any way, the 80's music, drafts and players were better and so were the teams. It also marked the changing of the guard as the last of the ABA players started to retire. All the teams were so much better then. Although no longer in their prime ( the ABA players ) some teams had at least two or three MVP's on their teams. Sixers: Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Andrew Toney. Lakers: Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy. Celtics: Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish. And others I have failed to mention, but you get the point. There was no salary cap, draft lottery ( at first ) the players didn't have to be told how to dress and act. The players cared about the fans and the Game. Now most of them are selfish and self-serving.
the original question has been answered. Kobe doesnt quite make it.

i'm not knockin the 80s era though, it was a great era, the 80s & 90s are the golden era as far as i'm concerned(i just think the 90s were a tad better, just my opinion). the 2ks are getting better, but i dont like the rule changes at all, & the lack of the true centers(a lot of softies compaired to the 90s big men). good gaurds & forwards though, good talent, & solid teams across the board. also, no top 10 all time teams though(in my opinion), hurt this era. and the east has been it's weakest ever this decade by far
i'll say it again, as huge a mj fan as i am, if lebron ever learns to shoot like Jordan did(& hit clutch jumpers as well, not just clutch drives, which can sometimes be taken away from him, forcing a jump shot) he will be the best of all time, better than jordan. i just think it's almost gettin to the point where he's been in the nba 5 season, if his jumper was gonna improve it would have by now. may never happen. i'm rooting for him though, he needs to practice it all the time
the 80's is the golden era just because of the fact that the nba was still a 2nd rate league in terms of ratings and fan support.

until the matchup between magic and bird hockey was about to overtake the nba as the 3rd favourite sport of america.

Back then the nba championship series wasnt even a prime time event. Literally. Not all games were shown live.

when the lakers became champs in 1980, a few HUNDRED people showed up for the ceremony. The lakers were hauled around in a flatbed truck and you could literally high five them.

You could watch them go down main street, inches away from you and then still walk to the steps of city hall in l. a. and get a great view of them during the ceremony.

I know you wont believe this, but its gods truth: I actually led the parade after their victory over the celtics in 1985. me and a guy dressed in an uncle sams suite.

sorry, but kobe may be brillinat at gettin 50+ points all da time.
but....
MJ could do everything, shoot, rebound, steal, assist, block, dunk. He was a brillinat playmaker and an amazin team player. he could play any position quite well. maybe even centre. HE WAS THE FULL PACKAGE
and you are obviously just talking out your butt like anyone else that doesnt acknowledge that koby is the best thats ever played. look up both players stats, and koby is hands down the greatest ever

I laugh at all you kobe fans saying that when its all said and done kobe will come out on top. My ass he's freakin 30years old now. He couldn't even take out the celtics with great people around him on his team. He had the tools even without Bynum. Kobe is a great player, the only one that comes close to his airness, but he's no Jordan. He's kobe and that's that. LEBRON JAMES FTW!
spoken from a true moron than obviously has never compared stats

listen to you, maybe if you'd take your own advice & compair the stats you'd see Jordan's stats are better. dont come at people like they're a moron when you're saying a guy with lower stats in almost every area has better stats. that is just weird

I dont think Kobe can retire, come back and
win 3 more championships especially when they
hired D-Rod's(Rodman's}services to compile
a 72-10 record.The best team ever!
L.A. and Boston havent compiled that record yet!
