I've heard many times on this blog how bad the bullpen is. The starters are the problem. It must be hard for a line-up to hit knowing that you are going to be down three runs in the first inning. Olson, Burres, and Cabrera are the three starters that need to go. And as I said in other posts although Jeremy Guthrie is the only thing that is keeping us together but he has enourmous value on the trade market. He alone could potentially bring top value. The rumors have him linked to the Phillies, Rockies, and Dodgers. The Phillies are supposedly considering offering Carrasco and Donald. By the time we are ready to combine our efforts Guthrie will be older 33 or 34 and possibly not even be here. Why not trade him for s lot while we still can. The other suggestion I have is see what you can get if you package Roberts and Sherrill together to the Cards. Many sources I have read from say Rasmus (Outfielder, #7 rated prospect in baseball) and Perez (Cardinals top pitching prospect) + a shortstop is definitly possible if we are willing to add Roberts.

Hey Dave Trembley you keep dragging out the same starting pitchers and you will keep getting the same results. I have decided that any game the rest of the year that Olson, Burres, or Cabrera starts, I will not watch or attend. You say, who the he.. cares what you think or say? Actually, nobody but I am just trying to illuminate the terrain upon which we currently find the Orioles deployed.

There is no help in Norfolk. All our talent is in Bowie and Frederick. We just have to suck it up and start trading away anyone over 30. Sherril, Huff, Hernandez, Bradford, Mora (if he'll waive his no trade), Millar (if anyone will take him), and Payton. Maybe even Brian Roberts at this point. We are a bad team that played above our heads for half a season. I'm tired of watching other teams making deals now and us standing pat. McPhail needs to strike while the iron is hot. If he doesn't then we know Angelos is still calling the shots.

Well, we sure need it from somewhere. I believe that the much-maligned Billy Rowell is one to watch in 2 years, maybe 3. This is his first season hitting below .270 in the minors. The only reason why he is much-maligned is because of his signing bonus. That's what I believe, anyway.

lol. Yeah, a few to be left unnamed on here did bring that number up before the season started.

A 20% starting rotation

Poor baserunning mistakes

Poor defense, including an absolute liability at catcher and short no matter who we put in there.

A manager who takes out his starters too early on the rare occasion that they are performing.

We have lost 6 of our last 7 against Toronto, the fourth place team in the American League East.

How again are we supposed to make .500 or above this year?

And I don't want to hear that wait until next year garbage, because that's what I was already intending to do. I am talking about the fools who kept going on about "Mark my words, Mark my words", and "The Birds are exciting this year".

I am an Orioles fan, but after 10 years of fan sufferage, I am also a realist, and we see this same story over and over again. Start off strong suprising everyone, go through one bad losing streak or so, rebound enough to go into the All Star break competitive, then....the plunge.

It's nothing new people.

Ouch. The season was fun up until about three weeks ago. I wish I had some hope that the "season worst 6 games under .500" was as bad as it was going to get, but we have two more games with the Angels and then start a series in Yankee stadium.
This is going to be brutal. We have exactly one, genuine major league starter right now. One.

Rasmus, Perez, and a shortstop (Jose Martinez?) for Roberts and Sherrill?!!

I make this deal faster than you can snap your fingers!!

Rasmus will finalize what would soon be the best all-around outfield in baseball.

Perez will be a stud. Martinez (doubt they'd give up Kozma) would be a serviceable shortstop whose bat may come around.

I've heard this and I would make that deal in a heartbeat too. This is just a rumor. I'm just throwing out a rumor i've read from multiple sources. Ken Rosenthal and a New York newspaper provide this if you can find the correct link.

Rebuilding,

You forgot to include Ankiel and Pujols in your story. The O's are going to toss in Bynum to get Pujols.

If we can get value from Guthrie, let's stockpile more young talent. Guthrie is going to make no more difference than Brattard did!

Hold on a second. I just read on the Baltimore Sun message boards that the O's are getting Pujols for Bynum.

Hey New York. As a Frederick citizen I go to my share of games. I hope Rowell makes it too. However, he is gangly, awkward and HARD TO WATCH AT TIMES. and scouts have pegged him as "Ramon" lazy. Not a hard worker and not impressive kid in an interview. Yes, he is young but at least 3, maybe 4 or 5 years from the bigs..guaranteed.

Good stuff. This season has been like methodone withdrawal. Easier, but still an addict. We want to rebuild and win 81 games simultaneously. Not possible. We need to let it go. Hit rock botton, perhaps like the Tigers a few years ago. Face that fear head on. And yes trade whoever we can to truly acquire the building blocks required.
Trade..Guthrie, Roberts, Sherrill now.
Should return 5 or 6 solid prospects.
Draft well and sign them quickly.
develop our own kids
Use free agency 2 years from now to get over the 81 game hump.

We can not trade Guthrie. If the O's are having a difficult tiime finding 4 good start, how on earth are they going to find 5??? Yes we have some prospects at Bowie and Fredrick but we have had so many pitchers look that good at AA and even AAA such as our all of starter who are not named Guthrie. The only starting pitchers that sseems to have panned out is Bedard and Mussina. If we get another outfielder and have the best young outfield in Major leagues but what difference does it make if we have lousy start pitching such as we have now.

Surprisingly, the O's have consistently scored runs this year. It has been poor pitching and careless base running that have killed us this year. We cannot trade Guthrie - we need to add starters around him. Yes we do have glaring holes, but trading your best pitcher without an equivalent replacement is not the answer.

You very well may be right. I just happened to see him when he had a great game (home run, double, single). Plus, there was an idiot fan that was sreaming insults at him every time he stepped to the plate, and it was VERY satisfying to shut him up. I guess you could say that I am very pro-Billy for sentimental reasons, in addition to the talent that i saw (or at least I think that I saw).
