If it is ultimately going to be Boeller or Smith and Flacco has been eliminated for 2008, then I think this is the correct decision. That said, I hope the offensive game planning will reflect that choice and not vice versa. Troy Smith is at best, an average passer and at worst, capable of causing numerous problems. So lets hope Harbaugh has enough sense in his head to run the ball at least 70% of the time. The offensive line is not a bad run blocking unit, especially with the addition of Lorenzo Neal. Yes, defenses will stack the box but if Smith is your man, you might as well get use to it and hope our defense has a great year creating turnovers. Personally, I'd rather just see Flacco take over the helm and learn the game but there doesn't seem to be much hope for that.

Yeah...lets see what Troy can do against one of the worst teams in the NFL. That will show us his potential.
I do however agree about Horn...maybe if we're lucky we could get Horn signed and then trade Clayton and a 3rd rounder to Arizona for Boldin. Then we can get rid of D. Williams and Gaither for a decent Tackle.
That will be some good trades there for us.

Make a run at signing Joe Horn? What run? No one else wants him. There is no run for Horn. That is all we need - another 5 yard receiver like Mason.
What other receivers do we have?

Well, for one I look at the majority of posts on this board, I look at all the polls that were conducted, and I use my common sense, THAT'S where I get that most want Troy to start.
and thank goodness there is less than a handful of fans that for some reason seem to think Boller beat out troy smith, I gave up on how a QB who produced ZERO TD's and turned the ball over EVERY time he played beat out anyone including Troy Smith. But hey i'm crazy like that!
It's you again... the love of my life, here to bribe me with immature, mindless rants in exchange for my smile. It's like you're trying to charm me with your heart-felt and sincere ramblings of sweet nothings. I dont even read your posts anymore, the one above is just a reference so you know im talking to you. You're the worst keyboard tyrant of them all. Call people names, refute your opinion laden "facts"... I took psych in college, i'm assuming you were never given enough attention as a kid, resulting in a low self-esteem, consequently causing you to put down others in an attempt to compensate for your dwindling confidence and pathetic ego. Seriously, how close is my evaluation? Try to keep your composure when posting a comment, no reason to take people's opinions personal when we'll all never be anything more than strangers. Why don't you relax, take a valium or 10, and have a nice day kid....and Smith sucks!!!!!...sorry, couldn't resist

What happened to the qb competition? Boller won, so now it's not really a competition. It's a "lets see some more smith.

boller should be getting this start so that he can continue to develope timing with the starting offense in the new system.

Let shorty start the game against RAMS. See what shorty boy can do. I think after this game people will come to realize that shorty boy is not capable of taking a starting QB position in NFL.

Boller can only give us a little chance of may be winning a few games. The real problem is O-Line.

The blame should go to over rated OZZIE. He is not able to fill the O-Line problem. OZZIE should be fired !!

Troy looked dreadful last game and has looked dreadful in the practices I have attended . I'm not sure if he's even completed a pass to a receiver yet. I was at the game last week and he couldn't complete anything other then a dump off because he couldn't see the receivers running open across the field. Not that Boller has done much better but he has performed better in both practice and game conditions. The one pick Boller threw last week was a great play by the DBack and a good throw. The week before his turnovers were bad and were unacceptable. Troy Smith does not have the arm strength, accuracy or height to be an NFL starting QB. I have no problem with him starting this week though because we have all seen what Boller can do and Smith at least deserves to get a shot or they should just cut him.

BollerfansareMAD said it right; I don't understand why there is a section of fans that wants to coddle Boller no matter what.
He is a grown man, 1st round pick who hasn't amounted to anything in the NFL. He isn't someone that I personally would go out on a field and take some hits for in an effort to win a game.
He sucks, we should cut our losses and release him and give someone else quarter of the time to develop that he had.

Kyle has not had six years to prove himself as many here say. Injuries and Steve McNair's arrival (perhaps just at the time when Kyle would have had a decent suporting cast) took much of his development opportunity away. Yet, he never publicly complained, took vicious hits, and bounced back ready to contribute. Now the rug has been pulled out from under him again. I think his career has been severely mismanaged and he has far more potential than most in this city will ever understand. The only thing for certain in this development is not that the Ravens have finally found their QB. It's that Kyle will continue to be a class act and will try hard to succeed if he ever gets a chance here again. But for his sake, I hope he survives the season unhurt and finds a fresh start in another city next year that is not as irrationally biased as this town.

After the Rams game every Boller lover and supporter will rip everything Troy did good or bad. Troy has only played 2 regular season games and a couple of preseason games. On the other hand Boller has had his chance. I am a Ravens fan and just want to see Smith or Flacco turn into a real NFL quarterback so that the RAVENS can win games. If you took a poll of national broadcasters, coaches, and players around the NFL they would tell you Boller had his chance and blew it. You Boller lovers are starting to act just like Billick. Get over it guys the kid just doesn't have it. I promise you the fans in Baltimore will never give Troy a chance. Do you hear how some are already attacking this class act on and off the field.

Boller spent his rookie training camp fooling around with his girlfriend instead of being burried in the playbook. Also, after 6 years, if a quarterback still stares down receivers and can't check off to an alternate receiver, then he probably will never have that ability. Boller parlayed his one good year at Cal into a multi-million dollar contract and I think he's happy with that. He will never be a starting caliber quarterback, except maybe on this team. Unfortunately, the economics of the sport make teams roll the dice with top draft picks. The ravens rolled snake-eyes with Boller and now they're shaking the dice with Flaco.

Do you think Bill Parcells, Bill Bellicheck, Tony Dungy, or any other respected football coach or team would have given Boller this long to develop. Look what happened to Byron Leftwich from the Jaguars. He was out of work until the Steelers picked him up as a backup when Batch got hurt. Their is a sick & wierd love affair with Boller here in Baltimore that is utterly absurd. I feel sorry for the guy. He is a tease. Think back to the Patriots game last year. He had the game and choked. As a quarterback you either have it or you don't. I pray that he gets it. I am just sick and tired of suffering through week after week of his dismal play. He is a NFL quarterback that gets paid millions to produce. 6 years and my hometown fans continue to keep making excuses for this grown man.

Can someone please tell me why Smith DESERVES a shot ? What has he done that is sooo special to deserve a shot? He is just another Michael Vick, all running and no passing. He can't hit the broadside of a barn. That's great that he can get out of the pocket sometimes, but sooner or later you have to throw the ball and a completion percentage as poor as his will not cut it.

And to the guy who wrote that Smith is such a class act is ridiculous. Why is he so cockey? He has done NOTHING. He started 2 games b/c Boller was hurt. There's nothing wrong with being confident in your abilities, but there is a line. When you publicly state how good you think you are and how great your gonna play, thats a little much. He just needs to shut up and actually do something.
