I know that a ton of people agree with you on this one...but, as much as I wanted Mussina to stay, who can blame him for leaving? The O's were horrible when he left and they've continued to be horrible. He had spent enough "rebuilding" years with the O's. Why not take an extra $20 million to go work for a winner (even though it was the Yankees, yuck)?
Point taken, but Ripken had an almost identical situation, and he stayed. If Mussina had stayed, he could have been another "Mr. Oriole", similar to Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Cal Ripken, Mark Belanger, etc. Even Eddie Murray never asked to be traded, and they had three straight losing seasons (1986, 1987, 1988) before they sent him to Los Angeles. Especially considering the fact that his family was very happy in nearby Mooresville, PA, he chose money and fools gold (The NY Yankees organization) over comfort, loyalty, and what would have been undoubtedly an eternity of admiration from Orioles' fans forever.

Wow a couple things amazing about this. Cabrera is still only 26, he seems so much older cause he been around so long. Six straight quality starts is amazing. Andalmost a 2-1 strike to ball ratio. Wow.

Mark Teixeira in a Baltimore road jersey! Get onboard:

Cabrera:"I am trying to remember nothing in the past. I am just keeping forward from here, man."
Daniel, those who forget their past are doomed to repeat it. Remeber your past mistakes so you don't make them again - dude!

Well, in baseball that is kind of like a double-edged sword. Condemned to repeat the past is true in ALL aspects of life, including baseball. ON THE OTHER HAND, a short memory in baseball is just what a player needs to overcome bad games in the past. For example, the Yankees entered this season with 13 straight post-season appearances, and a killer offensive line-up. Somebody forgot to tell the Orioles though, because we EASILY took two of three from the Yankees a few weeks ago. The scores were 8-2, and 6-0 respectively in the games that we won. In that sense, I AM GLAD that our pitchers DID NOT remember how awesome the Yankee lineup was (Abreau, Rodriguez, Jeter, Posada, etc). They just went out and played, like it was just another game, against just another opponent.

I think Leo Mazzone impeded DC by having him try and hit the corners with his pitches. Kranitz deserves alot of the credit.

OK, I'm going to be the board "bad guy" because I want the team to add good players.

To the poster who wants to see Blake Davis at SS:

Blake Davis

2007 AA Stats 115 AB 0 HR 10 RBI .209 BA
2008 AA Stats 108 AB 1 HR 12 RBI .213 BA

Career Milb BA:.263

This is a guy who want to play Major League Baseball for your team??? So I guess you want the O's to lose, and I'm against that.

The Mussina discussion is absurd. Angelos NEVER OFFERED HIM A CONTRACT.

Gee, tough decision. Be unemployed or go to the best team in baseball for a huge salary bump.

I don't know if I agree with you on this...Mussina was the star during the 96 and 97 years which were not considered rebuilding in the least. If my memory serves me he left in 2000, when the vets were still trying to make something happen...I think it was more how Angelos worked the deal which made him leave.
Duly noted. Angelos was an even BETTER reason for him to leave...hahaha.

Cabrera is a free agent after next season. Since his 2008 salary is roughly $3 million, a good 2008 season will earn him roughly $6-7 million next year.

He'll be priced out of the Angelos range after that point.

Trading him while he's hot is the correct way to go.

Hopefully Danny has crossed the threshold from potential to the real deal, most objective observers thought he would be. So glad O's stuck with him, as he was always a raw talent, now getting polished. Danny deserves a lot of credit because of his perserverance and hard work. A real pleasure to see him succeed, as he is a fine gentleman on and off the field.

I don't think D-Cab is the second coming of the big unit but it's still interesting to see that when the latter was 26 in 1989 he went 7-13 with a 4.82 ERA and 130 Ks, 96BBs in 160 innings. Maybe D-cab will be another semi- late blooming huge gangly dude (though not a lefty and not possessing one of the best sliders in MLB history).

In any case, after seeing him one-hit the yankers in '06 at yanker stadium, it'll be a long time before I give up on this guy.

Notes from KC:
His ball moves fast and moves hard," catcher John Buck said. "It's 95 [mph] with sink. That's why he gets so many groundballs. He was really on."

Said Royals manager Trey Hillman, "He probably had a half-foot of movement to a 90-92 mile-per hour fastball. That's a difficult thing to approach. Our discipline wasn't real bad. We didn't see nearly as many pitches as I would like for us to see, but when a guy is filling up the strike zone, you can't stop and look at everything."

When did you ever think that someone would say about DC: "... but when a guy is filling up the strike zone...".

Good for you Daniel!!!

Let's keep Cabrera and trade you - for a bag of pucks or, better yet, some pine tar.

He's only 26 for another two weeks. His birthday is May 28.

And he's not a free agent at the end of the year; this is only his fifth major league season. He's arbitration eligible, and thus working on a one-year contract.

Nice to see him start to throw strikes. I don't have any numbers to back this up, and would love to see his pitch f/x data from the past few years to compare, but, anecdotally, throwing more two-seamers seems to have been the key in this. Anybody actually seen the numbers to know whether he's actually changed his approach or if he's just finally throwing strikes consistently? The man has always tantalized us, and it sure would be nice if he's really turning the corner.

Congrats Big Daniel! I am so happy for this man. He has endured a lot of criticism from the media and the fans. I just knew that when the light came on he was going to be awesome. Thank God the O's did not trade him away.
