Hey Josh - you signed the deal and don't forget it wasn't to many years ago you were facing jail time for pedaling dope - be thankful of what you have.

This is contract situation is what starts to turn people off pro sports. I love the Browns and, of course, am a big fan of what Josh Cribbs does on the field, but no working man can relate to the professional extortion these players unertake when they start getting greedy.

I think this is more about his new agent wanting a commission, rather than Cribbs wanting a new contract. The agent doesn't get paid for the previous deal, so he has his grubby hands out wanting a payday.

Cribbs does a lot on and off the field in Cleveland. He is a vitale player on this team. I think he deserves a new deal. Perhaps not as lucrative as Hester, but he should get a restructured deal. He has prooved his value on the field.

This TEAM still hasn't accomplished anything yet. I wish I wouldn't be hearing players groveling for more cash until the TEAM has been to the playoffs or won their division (or maybe even beat Pittsburgh).

As Cribbs is still growing his role with the Browns, I wuuld wait at least until after the season to consider a new deal for him.

If he shows he can contribute on offense on a regular basis and continue to be a game changer on special teams rework it. One of the problems I have with all professional sports contracts is a players need to rework a contract after just a year or two when they do well. When they are average or below average, players don't go to the team and say...hey pay me less. One thing football does have going for it is that the team can void contracts of those who under perform if needed.

I know that it is the "trend" in professional sports, but one year does not make a hall of fame career. If I were the Browns, I would negotiate after this year. The Browns have been more than fair with his deals. Like Uncle Junior said, this may be more about the agent than Cribss.
If he is able to perform at the level he did last year again this year, then maybe you give him a better deal.
Don't forget though that special teams is a facet of football that requires all the players to perform well in order for the plays to succeed. If those guys did not block properly for Cribbs, he would not have performed as well (maybe). The guy has amazing talent, but come on, show you have the talent for more than one year before you start wanting huge money.

I agree with a number of the above posts. Mostly his agent wants some pocket money since he didn't negotiate his last deal. Of course a Pro-Bowler wants more money, especially if his previous agent didn't include bonuses for such feats (don't know if he did or not).

Normal people like us cannot fathom the life or money of a pro sports athlete, but looking from their point of view, the NFL can be a one and done league. He is trying to cash in on what he can because tomorrow, he can become Gary Baxter and possibly never play another down in his life. In the NFL, contracts are not guaranteed, so 6 years is nothing without a signing bonus to most player.

At the same time, being an undrafted QB without a position in the NFL, he should be grateful and blessed for what he has. His contract signed last year should be sufficient for at least another 2 years before he should bring this topic up again. Prove you can do it for another couple of years Josh. They'll take care of you.

While Cribbs may be as good a return man as Hester, he hasn't done it as long and as much as Hester has. Along with that, Hester is the Bears #1 receiver this season, that's why he got the money. Personally I think that's going to fail miserably along with the rest of the Bear's offense, but that's a big reason that he got the contract.

I think this is the first time Cribbs has let it be known that he wants a new deal. I don't think it will become a distraction and he will continue to be a good teammate and productive player. He is deserving of a new deal because he does so much to help this team with his returning abilities, receiving options, and special teams stops. I hope he gets his new deal, and he doesn't seem like the type of guy that would ask the Browns to break the bank for him. He won't get Heaster money (nor should he), but his current deal is pretty unfair considering his impact on the field. Go Browns!

The guy is getting paid well below market value, but he's the one who signed his current shitty deal.

the guy simply outplayed his current contract. i don't mind at all him asking for more money, i just hate the timing of it. either do this in april or may or at the end of this season. surely none of you think that he's only worth 950,000 when the browns could cut him any time they want and wouldn't have to pay him a dime more.

sure redo his contract for less years though six years was way to long just three maybe four if you push it. he wont last much longer.

You have to wonder why he signed that deal in the first place. I would have been a better agent, and put at least a couple of incentives in there for him. When I first saw the amounts on that contract I was surprised. He got more of a signing bonus as an undrafted free agent (5000).

Didn't you read the article? He is!

Josh has got a great attitude about the situation and even indicated that regardless of the contract outcome, he still bleeds organge & brown and feels blessed to be where he is.

Can't wait for this season, go Brownies!

I don't like the title to the Josh Cribbs article. "Browns kick returner wants new contract." He's not just a special team player he is a big of our offense. It wasn't for him we wouldn't have the field position we usually have and also Josh will be incorporated into the offense as another receiver and a possible slash type quarterback. I think he deserves everything he wants. When you think about four years from now he will be making less than one million per year with his present contract. I know that sounds like a lot of money but in comparison to other players it's not very much. He has been excellent at everything he has done for the Browns in the past few years and he's only going to get better. A Pro Bowler and my favorite player. Go Cribbs! Go Browns!

KBADM11 you are a complete moron and idiot. Are you jealous because you don't have a job? Total a whole! Get your facts straight before you open your big pie hole! He wasn't facing time for pedaling anything besides his bicycle. His girlfriend or maybe even himself could have had a little weed in their apartment. Big deal. Look how far he's come now. A Pro Bowler making great money and making you jealous.GFY!!

He'll get a new deal if he can replicate last year. Guaranteed. Probably something similar to what Devin Hester got, but maybe a little less given that we're not trying to develop him into a #1 receiver. I just wish he could have brought this up before training camp started so that it couldn't come up as being a distraction to what has been a mostly quiet camp so far.
