i love the typical sentinel gator bias. here's the correct hedline, geniuses -- gators struggle against unranked team.
to harken back to the 80s hurricanes is absolutely meaningless to today's game, and proves the sentinel will do anything to make the gators look good.
the gators are a bad football team about to be exposed by the sec.

First! I didn't get to watch that much of the game because of the UCF game but I would think a better performance will be needed by the Gators or they won't win the SEC this year. Nice of Meyer to try and run up the score at the end. I'm sure Shannon will remember that.
P.S. was that Miami's JV team playing tonight with all those freshmen?

Hey Matt-in-the-hat, please write back after the Gators win the SEC, I'll treat you a breakfast of green eggs & ham!

Congrats gators. Enjoy this while you can. They have so much talent, but they are not a great team. They will definitely struggle in the sec. Once UM gets an offense to match the defense, its on again!

Clucky, Because it the ONLY sport--name another!!--that relies upon a bogus polling system to determine who plays for the Championship. If this idea is so good, why not have a vote to determine who plays for the AL Championship--Think it might be red Sox-Yankees??----Also could employ same system in NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA Basketball. Lot of fun???
So I guess the answer to your question is ---ONLY in college football is there an inherent advantage to running up score on an outmanned opponent because of influence it will have on some Phi Beta Kappas who don't even see most of the teams they vote for.

Nice display of throwing stuff on the field after a call doesn't go your way. Typical Miami Trash. Just because your stadium was a $hithole, don't bring that trash in The Swamp.
I'll look forward to a few years of silence out of those nasty 'Cane fans. Your streak is over... the Gators are truly the #1 team in the state now. Urban's coming to your backyard to steal your recruits. Nothing you can do about it except cling to past glory.

lou- love reading your posts on the marlins...go fish!! didn't see much of the game...sucks they lost. there are reasons for running up the score...you gain favor in the highlights and since you beat a team by 27 instead of 14, it matters. numbskulled voters think that way...even if the game was 21-17 with 7 minutes left....either eay, margin of victory def. means only good thing...there is no negative impact of running up the score...

I really enjoyed the game and hope the series can resume on a yearly basis. Hopefully we can drop the noles off the schedule and renew our games with Miami. Randy Shannon and the canes have more class than Bowden and the noles ever will.

Look folks, sadly, there is NO SUCH THING as running up the score today. With computer polls EVERY POINT COUNTS. You leave one on the field and it could very well cost you a spot in the NCG. This ain't the ol' days. Sad but true. Sorry Miami, it is just business and if a NCG were in the balance for you, you would do the same.

The way the BCS Championship teams are picked you need every point you can get.

I support my 'Canes but the fact is Florida was playing an unranked team. I have seen way too many strange things happen in BCS voting.

Good measuring stick for the Canes. Looking forward to a good season in the ACC. As for Meyer putting starters back in at the end and kicking the field goal, I understand the polling argument but Meyer is exactly the type of high profile coach to set a better example. Instead he took the low road. That showed his true character. Canes won't forget it. 2013 is the next scheduled game but, Gators may see Canes in a meaningful bowl game in the next few years and that field goal could come back to haunt them.

Of course you want to drop the Noles from your schedule because they're going to be back to beating FU on a regular basis. Oh and Coach Bowden has more class in his pinky finger than urbie will ever have in his whole life!!

Then the N.C.A.A. will show the world what a corrupt athletic department really looks like in F.S.U. The buzzards are flying over Tallahassee as the A.D. has the smell of DEATH all over it!

The late field goal was payback for what Miami did the last time they played. Get over it.

WAAAAAAAAAAA - if you can't motivate your team with anything better than - "They kicked a late field goal against us a few years ago" - then you shouldn't be coaching.

Do you think if the tables were turned, the other coach would have kicked the same field goal????? darn right he would, lack of sportsmanship after the game on the Cane couch, nice leadership

Shannon running of the field barely shaking hands. You are darn right that every major program would have done the same thing. And believe me we may need all the extras we can get if we don't block better. I will admit Canes you had me concerned for awhile.

Dear Naplesgator, NOT EVERY program would have done the same. I'm a 1969 Florida grad who loves Florida and all it gave me but I'm honest and objective enough to say that stunk.
Remember Meyer's first year??? Remember how INCENSED the Florida faithful were when that little punk, David Shula, had his first team in with a 28 point lead and he was throwing the ball all around, AND his best player, Prothro, suffered a devastating knee injury. We were all mad as Hell at Shula and justifiably.
I'm not going to name ALL the coaches who I believe would not have done it. I'll leave that to your honest contemplation. What I will say is that I believe this could have BACKFIRED in recruiting. The many kids at that game did not care about an extra 3 points, but if Shannon says something along the lines of "Well, you saw tht crap, and I'll admit we were outmanned and couldn't stop it, but you join these young players already here and I promise next time we turn the tables". Let's hope Shannon isn't smrt enough to make that little speech, but somehow I doubt it.
ONLY way to judge how you REALLY felt about it, WHAT if situation had been REVERSED??
I hated the flop, I hated Howard's late field goal, I thought it was trash what JJ did to a helpless Faust and I never got what Steve saw in killing a South Florida when they were young. Lack of class is lack of class, if you're giving or receiving.
