Ex-Viking pleads to risky play with son

On the day former Minnesota Viking Darrion Scott was to pick a jury to decide if he had assaulted and strangled his 2-year-old son, the beefy defensive end pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.

Give this guy a one way ticket back to bogeymanland and get him the hell out of here. That he can skate on this one is an astonishing travesty of justice. I understand that a defense attorney's job is to make the best case possible to allow his client to escape prosecution, but helping this ghoul escape hard time should be enough to make his defense attorney turn to drink. I would bet everything I own that this monster will show up on a police blotter again, and it will be for a violence-related offense. "Playing," my ass.

Nice headline. he did not plead guilty to "risky play". I'm pretty sure that's not a statute. He endangered his child, which means the child was IN DANGER! What an ass.

How the hell do you people pretend to know what went on that day. Could it be that his fricken wife is psycho and brought this all upon him? The things that we did 20 years ago as kids would have landed all of our parents in jail. The justice system has far too much power over the people of this nation, and people are guilty until proven innocent, especially by blogger standards.

BTW, you never know when you'll be the one wrongfully accused.

Well for starters Jay it's not appropriate to have a 2 yo "playing" with a dry cleaner bag. This guy said he did as much. Even if he was truely "playing" this guy must have an IQ of 2. There's some basics in child rearing such as don't put plastic bags on your kids heads, don't give them matches, don't let them play in gasoline puddles... Sounds like you have some issues Jay.

come on JAY. i'm all for the benifit of a doubt. and everyone deserves his day in court.(well almost everyone) but this dude admited from the very begaining that he put the bag on the boys head "to see if he could get out" quite frankly if it were my son i would want him charged with attempted murder...reguardless, chilly needs to cut his @$$ and move on...maby he can catch on with the thugs down in Dallas... PS while i'm spewing my hard line Bryant "the pipe" McKennie should face the samme charges....we're not talking about smoking a little weed or playing a few adult games on the high seas, these mutts are gonna kill somebody, GO QUEENS

maybe he can not read the "keep away from children" warning on the bags. The guy was not just playing. He was abusing the kid plain and simple.

Scott's explanation sounds very weak; the sort of carefully coached response provided by a clever lawyer. The Vikings have already decided to cut bait; not with a ten foot pole should the franchise touch him now. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

What? You are one crazy person. I have never seen a Crimson Tide fan a rabid as you. It seems you sign everything you post with GoBama! I don't think their teams will be that good this year.
P.S.

So Scott is that stupid to think tightening a plastic bag over a child's head is "playing"?

Glad to see some Vikes fan gobble that up too. Classy.

What a moron! What if the guy was white, and was arrested by colored officers? Automatically guilty?
Also, hate to wreck the sunny day in your racist, black supremist world, but Obama's half caucasian. Does that make him a half-wit? You decide which half...

PS: No. He's not an "African/American" Candidate. Guess he has to settle for just "plain 'ol "American". How terrible for a possible President of our Country! Do you realize that that'd mean that he has to actually be impartial? That's just got to scare the bejesus out of decent, non-predudice, non-racist things like you. Golly!

I mostly agree with the majority of posters on this topic, however, I'm not sure I agree with jumping to the conclusion of purposefull abuse.

The guy is obviously an idiot putting a plastic bag over his kids head and having a handgun the kid can get his hands on. No argument there what so over.

That said, and I'm not defending only offering some perspective, imagine a mid 20's guywho's life experience has been spent as a college jock turned pro and who has lived his young adult life without want of money and has lived in an environment where he has been shielded from accountability. Does it sound like someone that you would expect to be responsible and possess strong common sense? Probably not. Again, I'm not defending, this guy should obviously not be spending time with his son unsupervised if at all.

The other problem that I have is that the way this story reads (and has read in other reports), the mother could very well have bad intentions. How many have each of you witnessed directly or from a far when a marriage goes bad and the child is used as a tool of revenge? Now consider that this is a case where the father has earned a great amount of money and has the potential to earn more (sadly as that actually is).

Nope, Scott is obviously an idiot but I cannot jump to outright malicious child abuse based on what I've read. I think it's entirely possible that there's a little more to this story than any of us are aware.

And Dan in Pheonix, Scott was released prior to this incident so the Vikes have already moved on. They're a step ahead of ya, dude.

Now down to brass tacks:
How about we chain 200LBS of concrete to Scott's leg, toss him off a bridge, and later say that we were just playing?
Hey, even better!- Let's pretend that we're all African/Americans, and that the arresting officers that come to our door are all "white"! Then, we get "Go DFL" to be our spokesperson, and... HEY! We can get Jessie Jackson to knock on doors, and... Well. We'll get off the hook, because anyone white is a racist, right "Go DFL"?
