Very slanted take on a very light hearted interview. Before digesting any of what is written above, I suggest you listen to the Q & A yourself. Ray joked about the franchise tag comments and he spoke at length about rooming with Gooden and the help he is willing to give a young player.
The fact that Ray was talking to this young player who plays his position and made it possible to room with him shouldnhave been the story here. That is pretty rare with today's veterans.
When Brett Favre comes back to camp, is he rooming with Aaron Rodgers?
Where can I listen to the Q&A?

It is truely a privlege to have a football player that has, not only the freakish talent of a Ray Lewis, but his incredible enthusiasm and love for the game. Over the years, it has been a thing of beauty and a joy to watch the defenses under Ray Lewis. I look forward to another 5 years of #52. Ray, I hope you read this. Thank you.

Get him signed, but nothing crazy though....as far as Suggs, he's great and he'll look even greater in a Cardinals uniform.

I heard the entire coverage on WNST. I would assume they will post it on the web if they can. Almost every media outlet had someone ask a question so it should be out there.

Ray Lewis has been the face of this franchise almost from the beginning. He helped me to love to watch the defense and he has truly dominated at his position. That being said you cannot over pay him because of what he's done. This isn't baseball where the owner can pay anything he wants and there's no consequence but in football the almighty salary cap looms large. If Ray can finish here as a Raven and his salary doesn't hurt the team then fine but if it has a negative impact and keeps us from being competitive then no way Ray!

Winning is and should be the most important factor and even though most of these posts are of an emotional nature this is business. If it makes sense, sign him, and if it doesn't let him become a free agent.

As far as Suggs goes, I don't like him protesting by sitting out. His actions only hurt him and the team.
Typical modern day player. It's all about them and no one else.

One things for sure, Ray will always max out on on hard he plays and trains. What that means is he will be productive as long as his body allows him to be. It will not be a slow decention but rather a few more years of good play then he will hit a wall due to injury like all dedicated great athletes who play a punishing position.
Knowing that, do you pay him superstar money and years, which he will demand.

Ray Lewis's success and longevity are mostly attributable to his great attitude. Most of the guys his age are burnt out, beat up, or suffer from superstar syndrome (see Chris McAlister.) No one in the NFL has a better attitude than Ray. For a guy of his stature to seek out rookies and practice as hard as he does is phenomenal. It's too bad Ray still carries such a bum rap around the country. We all know he is the greatest Raven and should be kept in Baltimore even beyond retirement. If Ray was a Packer or New York Giant he would easily be considered as the best MLB of all time.
I know I'll be in Canton when Ray gets in.

Nah, don't believe the hype when it comes to sportswriters in Baltimore. McNair was going to lead us to another Superbowl win last year according to the pre-season pundits at the Baltimore Sun and the Examiner........an then, oh, he's got a groin pull, oh, he's sidelined, oh, he's gone.

I am a HUGE fan. I just can't stand this pre-season hype about Lewis, that's all. And by the way, Michael McCreary played his heart out every play, not Ray.

Hypothetically, I bet the Ravens would wind up having to pay Lewis less money if they let him hit the open market and they outbid other teams than if they were to try and extend his deal before he becomes a free agent. I doubt that many teams would be willing to pay top dollar for a 34 year old linebacker, even if it is Ray. So, let him hit the market, realize that his market value isn't as high as anticipated, and the re-sign him for less than it would have taken before he found out his true market value.
