2 That's why this former Buckeye fan hopes that the Buckeye bus stalls out on the way to Ann Arbor and the entire Michigan roster is out with the Swine flu. |

1 Actually I always feel a bit wistful when the big game arrives because it herald the end of the football season really. The bowl games are mostly just novelties, disconnected by the long empty time until they arrive and the loss of the Rose Bowl's status as the premier season ending bowl. Something about bowls extending into January takes away the magic and makes them more corporate money oriented events. But it's always a great feeling to beat Missagan, even if they are worthless, for all the arrogance they've shown. Let's go out and beat Iowa now. A New Years Day Rose Bowl would be mighty sweet. |

Bucks should handle Iowa this Sat and win by 17 points. However, I think the Michigan game will be closer than anyone expects. Michigan will be ready to ruin the Buckeyes trip to the Rose Bowl. Bucks hang on and win by 7.

Reese, if osu beats Iowa they are in the Rose Bowl. The only thing MI can do is ruin OSU's outright Big Ten title. As for the game, OSU and MI has always been at high noon. In 2006 it was at 3:30 because both teams were ranked 1 and 2. I do not want the Big Ten to add another team just to have a conference championship game. That would kill the Ohio State Michigan rivalry and it really doesn't prove anything. How would you split up the conference? Conference title games just puts more money into someone's pocket that's all.

1 I thought there is a clause in the Rose Bowl contract that states the Big Ten/Pac Ten team should be ranked in the top ten. If not, the Rose Bowl can select another team in the BCS. I don't think the Rose Bowl would offer a bid to a three loss Ohio St team. It would go to one of the at large undefeated or one loss teams. |

The Rose Bowl still has big 10 vs. pac 10 tie in. The big ten champs will go to the Rose Bowl. If there is a three way tie between OSU, Iowa, and PSU at 4PM on 11/21, OSU will go since they defeated PSU and Iowa.

What a hideous post!!!! |

I heard that Penn State's quarterback, Clark took a shot at Heyward early in the game. Maybe someone needs to take a shot at him before the Iowa game so he plays out of his mind again.
That young man is a BEAST!!!!! GO BUCKS..........BEAT THE HAWKEYES!!!! |
||||
Just to be clear... the winner of the Ohio State/Iowa game has the Big Ten championship and the Rose Bowl birth locked up, no matter what happens in both of their last games. If Ohio State, Iowa and Penn State all end up with two conference loses then the winner of the Ohio State/Iowa game will get the Rose Bowl birth because they will have the tie breakers ahead of Penn State and the loser of OSU/Iowa (head-to-head wins). If you meant scUM would try to dampen the spirit of a Buckeye birth to the Rose Bowl, then carry on. I think the Bucks win each game by at least 10 points. |

The Rose Bowl Selection Committee does have some wiggle room with regard to who it gets. If Ohio State wins the Big 10 outright then they will be BCS eligible. It's hard to imagine the Rose Bowl spurning them, given the number of fans Ohio State travels. Even if Ohio State has a lousy BCS record in recent history, the Rose Bowl wouldn't turn down an opportunity to sell tickets to the Buckeye fan base.
Since the National Championship game will be played at the Rose Bowl this year, I suspect that the Rose Bowl's option if they pass on Ohio State won't be as appealing. The other BCS Bowls will get to select ahead of the Rose Bowl if the Selection Committee passes on the Big Ten and/or Pac 10 champs. |

1 Tradition is a big part of the reason the Big 10 isn't doing so well. Tradition is overrated. I don't much care for the noon games. Late in Nov. it's not a big deal because the weather's usually crappy and there's nothing to do but sit on your butt and watch football, but I've skipped plenty of games early in the season. In fact, I've turned down free tickets three times because I'd much rather be doing something else on a beautiful fall day. Of course, football is the absolute worst sport to watch live. TV timeouts and bad sight lines make for a long day. |

|
One of the reasons it is a noon start is because it is not a marquee matchup this year. Michigan is 5-5. And they play Wisconsin this week so they likely will be 5-6 when they face Ohio State. That will generate less national attention in the game, and hence a noon start.

That part of the contract doesn't come into play unless the Pac-10 and/or Big Ten champ is in the BCS national title game. Otherwise, the champions of both conferences are guaranteed a Rose Bowl berth. The clause will only be applicable when 2nd place teams are being considered. |
