People who see this cover as racist are looking WAY too deep into it. It's a photo. And a good one at that. Quit being so sensitive. Everything is SO politically correct it's sickening. Who will we offend next?

ENOUGH of charges of racism every time something comes up that someone doesn't like. Good lord. THe only racists I see are those that are running around crying foul every time something happens that THEY interpret as racist. You want to talk about racism? Try Louis Farrakhan or Reverend White. They are doing much more harm to the black community by their victim mentality than this magazine will ever do.

Just a note. LeBron James was photographed in GQ several months ago. Almost identical outfit, nearly exact same facial expressions. No suit (even though GQ is a fashion magazine) and no smile (showing his "game face".) So, if they'd added a white female in the photo and put it on the cover, it would've been deemed racist I suppose?

With everything going on right now-the economy, the war, people losing their homes-THIS is what people are worried about? This is ridiculous.
this is an ongoing thing, and though it may not be the war or the economy, race relations in our country still affect people's lives. sometimes inadvertently, but constantly. and because comparatively it may not seem as gruesome as someone else's suffering doesn't make it any less harsh for the sufferer.

this country's internal problems are far from ridiculous, and far from over.

there are a few points to be considered when reflecting on people's disagreement to the vogue cover. african-americans are constantly being negatively portrayed. this cover is just another reminder. why do blacks see racism...let's see...movies/tv depicts blacks as pimps, thugs, rapists, criminals, cafeteria workers, etc (as if they can't do anything else). Do you honestly think this is by mistake? If the magazine is vogue, shouldn't Lebron be dressed in a suit. If you want to call to mind that he is a basketball player, place a basketball in his hand. An earlier poster mentioned the inside article is about healthy bodies. Thusly, Lebron is dressed as he is. Using that argument, shouldn't the "skinny white chick" be dressed in athletic gear, too. There are plenty reminders in the media that white is beautiful, powerful, rich...and black is the complete opposite. Whites do not see an issue with this because they are more positively represented than blacks and blacks are tired of being made to look like angry blacks (i.e., any time they interview a black person on the local news. They find the least articulate of the bunch). The argument is fair whether america chooses to accept it or not.(oh yeah...the person who said that if more blacks were on staff this wouldn't have happened isn't asking for blacks to be given jobs...but having a more diverse, sensitive, and balanced perspectives other than that of a white male. Perhaps, if the staff was more balanced, someone could have said...u know, this might not be a good idea.)
GISELLE IS IN A DRESS BECAUSE (& TRY TO COMPREHEND THIS) SHE IS, WAIT FOR IT,...A MODEL! SHE IS BEAUTIFUL AS A MODEL! LEBRON IS A VERY HEALTHY MALE (I'M A GUY AND I CAN'T CALL ANOTHER GUY BEAUTIFUL!). THE PICTURE DEPICTS BOTH IN THEIR "COMFORT ZONE", AND THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE THEIR RESPECTIVE PROFESSIONS. NOTHING IS RACIST ABOUT THIS! CLOSE-MINDED BLACK PEOPLE THAT JUST WANT TO GET UP ON THEIR SOAP BOXES AND BEOTCH IS MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL, ARTISTIC PICTURE RACIST!

Race relations in this country must be really good if the worst thing the 'Civil Rights Leadership' can find to whine about is a magazine cover. And they say there's been no progress!

The picture is full of energy. The expressions on their faces are exciting and they look to be having a good time. Why turn the picture into something else. Can't it just be a picture?

The story behind this image and its history is well documented in Stuart and Elizabeth Ewen's Typecasting: On the Arts and Sciences of Human Inequality. A discussion of the VOGUE cover and related issues is found on their Stereotype & Society website: http://stereotypeandsociety.typepad.com

I just took a look at that magazine in Albertson's the other day and had a feeling that some folk would be offended. I am a 30 year old black man and don't have any problem with the photo. The editors of vogue did it b/c they knew it would be an instant "DRAW YOU IN" cover. I had never picked up a vogue in my life until just the other day. The race card is played way too often these days. The photo is simply two beautiful people having fun. If Eli Manning and Beyonce graced the cover together, there would be people who have a problem with that. There will always be those who have nothing better to do with their time than over analyze issues that aren't important, and ignore the important events....

Oh yes, it is very racist to show LeBron James in a basketball outfit, looking like he is playing basketball (oh, wait a minute, that is what he is known about, isn't it?) and a beautiful model in a nice dress, long hair posing as models pose.
What the heck they should be doing in that picture?
It seems that the main problem for many is that there is a black man and a white woman posing in the pictire in the first place.
C'mon - get real.

I agree that the cover was probably chosen to "draw you in". And there is nothing at all racist about it. There are two beautiful people on the cover whose skin just happen to be different shades. I sitll think that for Vogue magazine, his outfit should have been classier. Same for the cover of GQ. When I think of Vogue, I think of advertisements for companies like Chanel, Dolce and Gabana, etc. A basketball outfit just seems a little less classy than what Vogue normally produces. Otherwise, Lebron and Giselle looked great together on the cover.

Ele é um Deus em plenitude e Gisele ilumina a foto com feminilidade. É apenas uma foto, o preconceito está na cabeça das pessoas. As pessoas enxergam maldade em tudo, que horror.
