Santana, Delgado bolster Mets in 2nd game

Good bounce-back game for the Mets. Still waiting for Wright to get it done with runners on base. Now they also have Reyes in a small slump. In the games I have watched this year it just about seems like Reyes is standing on second base 3 times a game.
He should have had 120 runs scored by now and Wright should have had 120 RBI. Now both of them in a funk. Reyes is lunging at pitches - correct this and he will be back on track. Wright has been pulling off on everything for a whole season. It has worked against lesser competition but he needs to get back to using the whole field (lifetime .307 hitter - and that includes this year's .291 dragging that number down). Nobody liked pitching to him when he hit for average - now he looks like the escape hatch for any pitcher in trouble against the Mets. Braves always had success by pitching him inside. Seems like the pitchers in the league that can execute this strategy (even a little) are now doing this. David opens up too soon (hit some home runs doing that) and we have what we now have. He fouled off some tuff pitches inside last night and had better balance. Let's hope that's a start. If he and Reyes get it going (not even hot - just the .300 hitters they are) this thing is over and Mets team to beat in October. Cub fans have perfect right to disagree but until proven otherwise the Cubs and Sept-Oct don't mix. Mets had one meltdown not a lifetime of them. |

Thanks a lot, Pedro. I fly out from California to see one last game at Shea, pay $15 to park and $25 for a lousy seat surrounded by hyper-obnoxious Phillies fans, and watch my team fail to get a hit out of the infield off Moyer while you give up 6 runs. At least I got a free T-shirt.

David Wright Hello, start hitting the ball to right field! Please!
That's when you do your best hitting. Wake Up! |

Wonder what Rollins had to say about the chants and curtain call for Delgado?? Gotta love it!! Now if Reyes can stop looking like a little leagurer at bat and Wright can start using the whole field like he did there would be less doubt about post season games.

Good point. However, I don't think he would be on any playoff roster, if the Mets should get in. maybe he has photos of Jeff Wilpon with...Rick Peterson. |

Thanks to all the Philly fans who took the drive up 95 to watch their team gain (1) game on the Mets. After friday you were all a bunch of giddy school girls acting like you just took over first place. It was a true pleasure to have you at Shea, even though it will be the last time. Enjoy your four game skid against the Brewers as they help to destroy your playoff hopes. The Mets however should enjoy a rather easy series against the Nats and Braves and help to push the Phills further away from the division lead. GO EAGLES!

Hey easy on Reyes. I know he didn't have the best series this weekend but he's been pretty consistent all year. You don't lead the NL in hits unless you're doing something right. Wright is the one who needs to get it going. It looks as if Beltran has started to come out of his funk and we all know Delgado is primed, but Wright has been struggling, and he needs to get going down this important final stretch. |

There was a suggestion on another Mets site that David Wright should be more involved with hit and run at-bats. This would cause him to have a more controlled swing at the pitch to make contact rather than the over-swing going for the fences. I kinda agree with that assessment. By having a more controlled contact swing, he wouldn't have that "hitch" or loop that causes him to be the slightest bit late and foul off a lot of balls. He has plenty of strength so the long ball would also be there. When he was having that great year a while ago before the home-run derby, he was a great contact hitter and look how great he was. Probably one of the most feared two strike hitters in the league.

I agree, he was most dangerous with two strikes because he USED to cut down his swing and go to right. How great was it to see Rollins strike out for the final out last night. That should shut his mouth for the rest of the season! |

It is strange how Met fans are happy
that they their team wins one game against the Phillies. They lose 2 out of 3 so what the heck are Met fans so happy about? Then on Friday night there are 12,000 empty seats at Shea Stadium. Why? By the way a 2 game lead can dissapear very quickly. |
|
Why shouldn't the mets fans be happy? 2 game lead for one. A relatively easy schedule compared to the Phillies for the next 3 weeks.. I guess you root for that other NY team that isn't going to the playoffs!! Poor you!! |

1 Just be thankful you didn't fly from California to see the Yankees. You would have spent 3 times the amount of money to watch them lose. |
|
BULL S***. I was at the game on Friday and at most 6M empty seats. That place was rocking. Over 110M people were at Shea yesterday. Get your head out of the clouds. |
|
Are you stupid or just plain jealous. Why are we happy? Listen Mr a 2 game lead can dissapear quickly. The Mets went into the series up 3 and come out up 2, when Phillie had their chance to be tied. So, they had their chance and they missed it. So I guess Phillie is just always the ones who don't do any wrong right? You're an idiot. If things were the other way around and the Mets had a chance to tie after being 3 games down and didn't do it, you'd be saying "see, they had their chance and they blew it, they su_c-k" etc, etc... But when the Phillies blow their chance it's "oh a 2 game lead isn't that big" You're a moron, shut up! |

I wouldn't walk across the street to see the Yankees for free.

I think it's more accurate to say that some (who knows how many) Mets fans are content with taking 1 out of these 3 games. I doubt there are many that are too happy with it. The reasons for contentment? Most Mets fans have a healthy regard for the Phillies. Their team fights hard and deserves some respect. The Mets had taken 10 out of 15 leading up to this series and we could have hoped to take 12 out of 18 for the year but there was that chance that the Phils were going to win one of these series. Having said all of that - nobody would have been content with a sweep. Though the Phils may have been due there would have been no excuses for a sweep. I see the Mets and Phils as likely to win same number of games remaining - leaving the Mets 2 games in front at end of year and Phils challenging for the wildcard. After Mets spent as much money as they did this year I was vigilant in not making excuses of the many injuries they had (more than Phils but not as devastating as Braves loss of Smoltz - not that he would have saved this Braves team). I always tell my Yankee friends (I root for both but always the Mets come first for me) that you can't make excuses about injuries when your team spends enough to have back-up options and depth to survive better than most teams. Same applies for Mets. Having said that - this team is in a pretty damn good position considering the shuffling around they have done with outfield, second base and the fifth starting spot in rotation and now closer on the shelf for the season. |

I'm glad Met fans are so happy over a
lousy and meaningless 2 game lead because it will be all the more heartbreaking for you and sweet for us Yankee fans when your Mets lose to teams in the last few days of the season that you think your team is supposed to beat. An easy schedule? There is no such thing. Yankee fans are sick of all the nonsense Met fans have been doing over the last few weeks in their taunting of Yankee fans when the Mets have won nothing yet so when the Mets get knocked out of the playoffs or better yet don't make the playoffs Yankee fans will celebrate just like Met fans do when the Yankees lose. A 2 game lead can and will evaporate very quickly, just watch, see and learn. GO PHILLIES!!! |

You're not a real Yankees fan, REAL Yankees fans don't give a dam_n about the Mets except during interleague games. Let the Mets fans define themselves as anti-Yankees instead of pro-Mets, okay? Real Yankees fans are above that, and might actually read about all MLB teams without cursing them. Ya win some, ya lose some. |
