Come on! Get real! The Bears made 400,000 last year on shirt sales with Hester's name on them!
Please, give the man a raise! |

Hester deserves a big payday. The Bears need a really good, reliable receiver, one who is a game changer.
I say put it out there that Hester is on the block. See what kind of a game-changing receiver we can get for him. A lot of teams need a great punt and kick returner. He will get his money. The Bears would get a shot at the division, which, by the way, they won't get with a very fast, very shifty punt return specialist turned rookie receiver. He won't be worth anything this year as a receiver except someone to stretch the field. We need a big, solid, fast reciever with good hands. Someone who has a really good track record of accomplishment. Normally, we wouldn't have a shot at someone like that. But with Hester as trade bait, I think some team in the AFC or another division of the NFC might make a deal. |

show him the money!!yep I said a 1996 throwback line..a half-million is hardly starving but he actually saved the bears these past two seasons and deserves more. Remember Sprewell? He couldn't feed his kids off of a $5 million contract, LOL.

He should not have signed for that money then. We are all subject to the contracts we enter in to. Just ask anyone being foreclosed. Suck it up Devin, and get to work.

i would sit out as well...they took him for granted...and that's not the way to inspire greatness...some of us just need to be told that we're needed and the green stuff is the best way to do it.

Dude, you sound like someone that has never played sports above the little league level. Professional entertainment has an entirely different standard than your every day accountant. The economics of the NBA, NFL, and MLB are not those that every day Joe deals with and you cannot compare your compensation with that of a professional entertainer. The markets are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. Gee whiz simple concepts are so difficult to understand for some. |
Hester is probably listening to Sanders which is his first mistake. He is risking losing an enter season and will have gained nothing and lost half a million plus what ever increase the Bears are offering.

Let's be absolutely clear - NFL contracts are not "contracts" the way we usually use the term.
Scenario: Player spends 2 years of 4 year contract playing well enough to deserve more. Gets injured in 3rd year and can't do much. Team decides he won't be able to perform and so cuts him before 4th season. In baseball the player gets paid for the 4th year whether he is on the team's roster or not. In basketball the player gets paid. In hockey the player gets paid. In the most dangerous major sport on earth, you get squat. So for the "he should be a man and honor the contract" side you should ask yourself where Shaun Alexander should be right now? http://www.nfl.com/news/story... Let's look at Willis McGahee's BIG contract: -initial signing bonus of $7.5 million -base salaries are $595,000 (2007) $605,000 ('08) $620,000 ('09) $3.6 million ('10) $6 million ('11) $6.5 million ('12) $7.2 million ('13) Raise your hand if you think the Ravens ownership will "stand up and honor the contract" come 2010. |

Matthew 20:1-34
a Parable for athletes 1 “For the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 When he had agreed with the workers for a de·nar´i·us a day, he sent them forth into his vineyard. 3 Going out also about the third hour, he saw others standing unemployed in the marketplace; 4 and to those he said,‘YOU also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is just I will give YOU.’ 5 So off they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour and did likewise. 6 Finally, about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he said to them,‘Why have YOU been standing here all day unemployed?’ 7 They said to him,‘Because nobody has hired us.’ He said to them,‘YOU too go into the vineyard.’ 8 “When it became evening, the master of the vineyard said to his man in charge,‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, proceeding from the last to the first.’ 9 When the eleventh-hour men came, they each received a de·nar´i·us. 10 So, when the first came, they concluded they would receive more; but they also received pay at the rate of a de·nar´i·us. 11 On receiving it they began to murmur against the householder 12 and said,‘These last put in one hour’s work; still you made them equal to us who bore the burden of the day and the burning heat!’ 13 But in reply to one of them he said,‘Fellow, I do you no wrong. You agreed with me for a de·nar´i·us, did you not? 14 Take what is yours and go. I want to give to this last one the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own things? Or is your eye wicked because I am good?’ 16 In this way the last ones will be first, and the first ones last.” Devin Hester may have performed better than he expected, but he made an agreement to play for the contract he signed. He should stand by his word. Those of us that pay to see him "play for a living" make a tenth of what he agreed to. I wish we had players today that exclaimed how lucky they were to play and were grateful to the fans. Players that would stand and sign autographs untill the last fan left, knowing that they were lucky not to have to Work for a living. Deven Hester should honor his contract. |

according to my girlfriend, hester has the right to breach his contract, because they are giving him other duties to perform other than special teams. he ran a few offensive receiving plays last season, so technically, they utilized him in a position outside his contract.
either way, i say pay the man his money. |
So Mr. Hester "can't work on $445,000?" Get real. I'm only speaking for myself, but I would love to work for $445,000, or anything close to that.
And you wonder why fans don't care? What a crybaby. Live up to the contract that was signed and show some character.
This is not a smart man. That said, PAY HIM!!!
p.s. good luck getting the ball past the 40 without him.
Ok, I'm sure you'll get it with your 6+/40. Posts like this make absolutely no sense. If you had talent, you'd want to get payed more than he's making. Sorry. |
Until you can outmaneuver large football players who are ready to take your head off and until you can run like the wind and until you can entertain millions of people you can just sit on your ass and accept that you will never make that kind of money. Loser. |
while I agree hester deserved the contract extension...did your girlfriend see the contract herself? does she know what's in the contract? then don't bring up a dumb comment like my girlfriend says... |
