Don't you think if anybody could do it they would? If you could play a sport I'm sure you would instead of sitting there in your mother's basement typing on the computer. Yes some of the salaries are absurd (A-rod for example) But obviously millions of people all across the world like sports...so maybe you are the FOOL!!!

That's the last straw - I'm officially done with the Bears. They are like watching a bunch of investors at a board meeting, worried way too much about their money and not about the play. Contract? That doesn't count since I'm doing better than expected. Damn sure would have taken the money if he sucked, wouldn't he. Just a bunch of whiners. Get a job in a boardroom where we don't have to deal with you and get some football players on the field.

Pay the man. Pay the man. Let's move on to more pressing issues.
Typically, I'm not one for renegotiating a contract but this is an exceptional case.

Your premise would be fine if everybody played by those rules in modern sports but the recent Urlacher renegotiation allows for others to pursue this strategy.

If this is the precident, then teams should be allowed to renegotiate contracts when players suck, like Grossman and Benson.

People, please stop comparing NFL salaries to your everyday occupations. Do 62,000 people pay to watch you work in their free time? Do advertisers and TV cameras show up to watch you teach? It is not comparable. As far as the way the NFL works, the Bears REALLY dropped the ball on this one. Hester is considered one of the premier players in the league. They should have spruced up his contract months ago. PAY HIM NOW! We are already the laughing stock of the NFL with our quarterback situation. We don't need this too.

Come on people, with one violent hit his career could be over. Sacraficing your body and health for a "LOOSER MOM & POP ORGANIZATION" ISN'T WORTH IT. With the history of this organization you can't tell me that the issues surrounding this team that you would sell yourself short to honor Bears history, B.S. The McKaskits themselves don't give a damn about winning,( i.e. Grossman,Turner still on team please). SIT THE ENTIRE YEAR OUT DEVIN and sign with a real Professional Football Organization that appreciates and can utilize your talent, the entire league will benefit and you'll be an icon. Turner putting you in the game on 3rd and 20 will get you killed. THIS TEAM IS GOING NOWHERE THIS YEAR and I am exicited about how this coaching staff and management has backed themselves into a corner. Talk about getting exposed people, here we go. Do really think these guys can coach? Putting Grossman back in for the 2nd half of the S.B., kicking the ball to Adrienne Peterson, Dusty Dvorcek on special teams on and on, these are the guys that don't deserve a NFL paycheck. People wake up, DEVIN GET YOURS, then pull a hammy and collect paystubs until we get a real GM, coach and offensive cord. Urlacher does it, you can to.

Well, as a matter of fact, NFL contracts are barely worth the paper they're written on, since the only thing guaranteed in them is the signing bonus. You can be cut at any time at the behest of the team, and then you don't get paid. Ask Muhsin Muhammad. Second, professional sports operates on an entirely different economic scale than teaching. Those who complain about low teacher pay are probably not willing to cough up more in taxes to give them substantial raises. And the money to pay athletes come from several sources: television contracts with the NFL, advertisers and other corporate sponsors, and ticket sales. Should Devin Hester get paid more? Considering his value to the team and the salaries made in the NFL, yes he should! Whining about his salary in comparison to ours smacks of envy...if you want his salary, then learn how to return punts and kickoffs for TDs.

I was really hoping Hester wouldn't become one of "these guys," egotesticle d-bags who think it's ok to be a premadonna and try to extort money from their teams. You signed a contract, Devin. Wait to negotiate when your contract is up like every other working American, you greedy ****hole.

Who cares ! the Bears suck, their stadium is overated, most of the players are ex cons, the coaching staff stinks, they will never achieve their full potential, and if they do, the Colts will be there again to shut the door on them, Hester is a Bum

I'm curious if there's a standard clause with the NFL players union for what can happen in a breach of contract situation. Whatever it is, it should be kicking in soon. Hester signed on the dotted line and should stand by that - not just him but all athletes. I agree with the posts that imply teams should be able to do the same and drop salary mid-contract for underperformers if this is the direction we're heading.

Don't let him play then. Let him sit for the next two seasons and let him go. Athletes need to be accountable for what they sign. Can the team negotiate the contract lower if a player doesn't play up to their expectations? He signed a deal. Be a man and live up to it. I'm sure if he performs that way in the future - he'll be duly rewarded. Or maybe he's just a fluke and knows it. I despise Urlacher or any player that think they're entitled to more than they sign a contract for if they play well.

Here's the problem folks, with NFL contracts (differnt than NBA and MLB contracts), the NFL teams get all the power. Holding out is the only way for an NFL player to get any power back form the team. If the contracts were more like MLB or NBA contract, then he would have no argument, this is different though.
I like to ask everyone to stop comparing your salary to how much Hester makes. It is a very stupid comparison, and trust me, you cannot return kicks for an NFL team.
