I am a SUNY Binghamton School of Management alumnist, and was reading these articles about an incident at my college in shock! Mr Kovacevic must be returned for trial immediately. Those that assisted Mr Kovacevic in escaping punishment must be punished as well. If Serbia will not cooperate, let the air raids on that country resume.

What kind of Nazi non-sense is this? Punish a country for a bar fight? There have been many people who have fled the US to European countries to avoid the law and has the US ever said let's put sanctions on that country? No, they haven't. Lets start using some common sense. Since when is this person a "basketball thug"? What is this a movie? Are there bands of Basketball players roaming the streets in Binghamton harassing people? This is just plain propaganda. Let's wake up people.

To Rod- the "thug" is 260lbs and 6'9". Bryan weighs 135lbs so no matter what, the fact remains that the kid was beaten to a pulp and is in a coma supposedly over a "grope" of Kovacevic's friend's girlfriend. the girlfriend has even admitted it didn't happen the way they claim. a SENSELESS beating from a kid who has a history of intimidation and hot-headedness and the fact that the consulate helped him escape by posting bail money and possibly providing him with another passport is inexcusable. he must be brought back now to serve the consequences of his actions...

Hey Rod, thanks for showing us there is some common sense left in the US. Being from Serbia, I am so terribly offended by all these things I read, and even though I never comment on any news, now I just had to. There's however one thing I don't understand. Don't get me wrong, I do not approve of what happened, I am very sorry for the boy that got hurt and his family, but this was a bar fight, and I just can not understand all this crazy rage against all Serbs and all the media attention. I am more than sure that much worse things happen on a daily basis, and just don't understand why this one is so highly publicized. So I just wanted to ask you to leave a little bit of room for the idea that many Serbs are very nice people, please don't be so narrow minded. There are bad people and good people everywhere, regardless of nationality.

To those who comment that this was just a bar-room brawl, what Mr. Kovacevic did is still a crime by the laws of the US. When you live in a foreign country, you must adhere to the laws of that nation ... or face the consequences. The same goes for Americans living in other nations. Live by and respect the laws where you live, or face the consequences. Simple as that. Mr. Kovacevic did not respect the laws -- and he must be brought back to the US for trial -- where he will be presumed innocent ... until proven guilty. Aiding and abetting suspects flee countries is also a violation of law in the US. So, that means there are two others who ought to accompany Mr. Kovacevic back to the US for trial; his mother and the Serbian consulate who provided him with the "emergency" travel documents that allowed him to board the flight to Germany. Finally, as others have said, it is wrong to group all Serbs as "bad" -- just because these three are. However, it is fully justified to put political and economic pressure on a nation that disrespects another nations laws. That is done all of the time. If Serbia wants aide and respect of the US and Americans, then Serbia and Serbians MUST show respect to us. Serbians must earn respect from Americans to get it -- and they should/will only get it if they respect our laws -- and return ALL three of these suspects ... ASAP.

Well David, you made your point. But you see, some two or three years ago a girl was raped by an American soldier here in Serbia. I'm not a lawyer, but my guess is that the law was violated here as well. And do you know what happened? Your soldier was on the first flight back home. Fled the country, as you keep saying. Never went to a trial, and yet, ruined a little girl's life. Our country is to small to put some significant pressure to America, so this case never went public. Your lack of information may mislead you seriously.

@Jelena From Serbia Jelena, cut the crap. I googled and some US soldier raped an Albanian girl, not a Serbian girl. That guy is in jail. In this case Serbian officials helped this thug to flee to Serbia so he would avoid justice. Serbia is known for hiding criminals as Mladic and a few others.Kovacevic is just the next in line.

Like Roman Polanski and Marc Rich? problem is that Mr. Kovacevic does not have nearly as much money to ward off this media craze which has ensued that those I mentioned above had. Who helped these guys escape? Give me a break. This whole story is a bunch of propaganda, and is one more reason why WE Americans will NEVER find Bin Laden because we are too busy chasing dumb ass jocks. I know that I still don't and won't feel safe living in New York and commuting into Manhattan. But I guess you'll feel safer once we return Kovacevic? Is that right? And that my friends is exactly why, we have Bush as a 2 term president. You're a loser, dude.

Vojvodinian
|
I'm from Vojvodina which is a former Yugoslav republic occupied by Serbia. This thug's current house is in Kula - a small town in Vojvodina. This guy and his family are just one of many thousands Serbs brought to Vojvodina from Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro and Kosovo in order to suppress Vojvodinians just as China does it in Tibet. Family of this thug is connected with Serbian secret police which is on top of organized crime, including everything from looting ethically cleaned villages all over former Yugoslavia to drug dealing, hiding war criminals or blunt theft of whole funds and savings of citizens of Vojvodina. What I'm trying to point out that things like this one wouldn't happen if US didn't allow Serbia to continue with rape of Vojvodina which goes on for almost a century. We had a referendum in 2006, we've rejected to be part of Serbia and despite results of referendum US allowed Serbia to ignore our will. Everyone consider Kosovo as last problem on Balkans but it surely is not. The thug in focus is just one representative of population that tortures Vojvodina and its citizens. I'd like to say "Open your eyes DC, open your eyes USA, before it becomes too late". In the name of Vojvodinians I'd like to express my total support for any action US will take against him, his family and Serbia. Serbia is an outlaw country and as such shouldn't be helped in any way, especially not allowed to hold occupied the last remaining federal unit of former Yugoslavia - Vojvodina. We have the right to live free and be independent just as any of remaining 7 federal units of former Yugoslavia. Freedom for all, freedom for the world, freedom for Vojvodina! Isolate outlaw countries and put criminals in jails! I know this is just a lonely cry for justice in the moment when all of you see injustice taking place and therefore I hope that this message of mine will make some people start thinking about situation in Vojvodina. I truly hope that there are people in US who haven't forgotten about declaration of independence and glorious history of US written by Jefferson, Franklin and other great Americans. If US faces problem with outlaw country like Serbia is, for who knows how long, than how about helping out to Vojvodinians who are sharing your pain and anger regarding this severe beating case because it is something they're experiencing it for generations in many ways as we suffer under Serbian ruthless occupation? Vojvodina reaches out to US and we hope US won't ignore it. Serbia is a repeated offender, well know criminal with huge "police record", nothing but wars, killings and misery. If they want to be barbarians than isolate them in their borders prior to 1914 and let Vojvodina be free!

@Stefan Why do Serb always claim that Serbia ia a multi-ethnic country??? Only Vojvodina is multiethnic but Hungarians,Croats and people of other nationalities are still being beaten up by Serbs.Mostly by Serbs that were settled there to create a majority in Vojvodina Autonomus Province.

Edward, thats not true, your informations are wrong!First, last beating was in Subotica and Hungarian boys fight over a girl with Serbs, that was a year ago.And reason was girl, not nationality, second Serbia is a multiethnic country,a lot of Romanians,Bulgarians,Muslims live in Central Serbia! And how come we don't have problems with them? The answer is,Serbs dont look for problems, western countries make Serbia problems by encoureging this stupid ideas like this one by Vojvodinian! Why do they do thet?Because Serbs are othodox peapole, and western countries dont want Serbia as a leader in Balkans!Think about it...We are smart nation which has given to world some of a best scientests in all areas, with a lot of culture aged tousend years back.We dont hate anyone,we are not rascists we just love our homelend!I'm proud that i'm a Serb!

What a f..k are you talking about?!Yust tell me name one of this organisations that youre mentioning? One more thing,Milosevic didn't lead Serbs into wars!We were only defending, dont interfear JNA(Yugoslav peapole army)because her yob was to defend constituon of Yugoslavia, analyse wars in ex Yugoslavia where fights were taken and you'll see that Serbs were only defending themselves in Croatia (Krajina),Bosnia(cities of Republic Srpska)and Kosovo from Albanian terorists(KLA) even CIA put KLA on the lists of terorist organisations!I dont blame you for your way of thinkig, because you were served with propaganda for long time, but once in a wile think with youre head and form your own opinion!
