Why is everyone so upset that the Islanders changed the goal song. It won't be heard very much.

No! trust me, if the islanders were worthy of being watched on television, and actually had the fan base to put up higher ratings, they would be in primetime. Cablevision cares a little more about advertising revenue then promoting one tiny piece of their empire

BringBackGoalSong wrote: Why did the Islanders change their goal song? Everyone at the game last night was shocked. We want the "na na na na na, HEY! na na na na" song back for good whenever the Islanders score a goal! The composer of the old song was convicted of child molestation or some such thing. Somebody (I can't remember who) had made a public appeal to all sports franchises asking them not to use the song anymore. Nice game for the Isles. I think it's a bit silly to be arguing about how proud you should be about their accomplishments so far. It's just 2 games and it's just 1 win. Let's just hope they can play at a high level all year. I'm actually hoping to see Jack Hillen as a result of Martinek's injury. He looked good in his short appearance last year and I'd like to see him get a chance to play.

That was Gary Glitter who was responsible for that song, Rock'N Roll part 2. He was accused of something to do with child pornography. I don't know what happened with his case but that was a very long time ago and I don't think that was the reason that song was replaced. I think Wang or the PR dept. just wanted a song that had something to say in regard to the Isles. A lot of teams have come up with their own song in regard to a goal being scored. The Rangers, Flyers, and Habs I know for sure have their own song.

The stuff with Gary Glitter may have been a long time ago but the part about some activist trying to ban the song is not.

I was not aware of this but I still believe that the Isles just wanted their own song anyway as Rock'n Roll Part 2 was getting old.
