There is an ancient adage in baseball that says you can't hide a player who is struggling.

jones has made his mark on histroy and it is time for him to move on and spend his money on someone who might give us a return...he's milked the dodgers long enought...and DID he really pass a physical to be signed with the dodgers.....if so, that man should be fired for signing the papers

Would the Dodgers bring up someone from AAA ball batting 167 and let him be the everyday center fielder, and keep him batting fifth in the order, I don't think so ,SO WHY IS JONES STILL THERE. One reason is Torre is an ass, the second is Colletti lets Torre be an ass, Third is upper management are all asses for letting this get this far. Colletti needs to be fired, Jones sent to the minors.

Jones only batted 222 for Atlanta last year and his batting skills this year are a lot worse. His home run production has gone from 51 in 2005 to 41 in 2006 to 26 in 2007 to 2 in 2008. He should be sent to the minors until he is able to turn it around. Personnaly i think he is washed up at the ripe old age of 31. It will be interesting to see if Colletti and Jones gets the axe before this season is over.

Here we go again !!!!! is anybody listening !!!!!!!...Jones is done !!!!!!! How many hitting coaches does Andruw Jones need ??? This guy Pentland, how he is suppose to assist Mattingly ????? who is going to assist Easler ???....like i said if before when you buy something for 36 million dollars and it doesn't work, you fix it or get your money back.....final thought, Joe Torre had a great career with the Yankees....one more season with Dodgers like this one and Joe will go down as just another averge manager....remember when the Braves ????

Bat the pitcher 8th and Jones 9th! Seriously though, the moment of truth for Torre will come when Pierre comes back. Who is going to play? I say play Pierre and have Jones come in as a defensive replacement late in the game. And then, 5 minutes after the last game of the season, get a box and throw all of Jones' stuff into it and tell him to get out and not come back! He showed up overweight and out of shape and at the beginning of spring training, he kind of laughed it off saying it was nothing big. Then he started the spring hitting like a 90 year old lady, and it has gotten worse from there. Every pitcher knows that all you have to do is throw him a breaking pitch low and away and he will swing at it. There is no need to throw him ANYTHING in or near the strike zone.

You can see the frustration mounting in the other players now ! Andrew Jones has failed miserably, over and over this year in clutch situations, to the point, its a given out when he comes to bat !
I found myself watching the line-up during rallys to see when Jones was due up, knowing his MO would be a flailing strike-out, followed by that "smirky grin" like he was thinking "who cares, not me, Ive got $36Million dollars stashed in the bank."
Thanks Ned for doing your homework. I have a friend who scouts for Kansas City and he said, most teams in the league knew Jones was done, and thus never made an offer.
Thus virtually letting Jones rob Frank McCourt.
In wonder if Ned Colletti is involved in any sort of kickback from the Jones side?

Can I ask how many of us would keep our jobs if we were producing at a %20 clip !
I work in medicine, I know if my patients were dropping off 4 out of every 5 times, Id be pushing a shopping cart in front of Ralphs.
Cant suggest we do that with Jones or all our cars would have dings and scratch marks from his passing by and not being about to turn correctly!
Maybe Ned Colletti could find a new job next year along with Jones. How about Ned as a shepard ! Standing on a hill, overlooking his flock ! Or, maybe thats what he doing this year already !

Put him in a Las Vegas 51's uniform until he can hit over .300 and then bring him back. If I was getting $18 million a year, I would spend 6 figures to teach me the basics of how to hit the ball again...but then again, I have a good work ethic!
Great one

Nednick,
These guys don't know a thing about baseball, so don't listen to them. Your job is safe as long as everyone focuses on Puuwww.
Keep him in the lineup and bat him cleanup so he can reach his full potential.
Your loyal fans can't wait for your next acquisition. You're the greatest!

With all the talent the Dodgers have in the minors, keeping a .166 batting average player in the majors is poor management. But in the last few years the Dodgers have paid a fortune for a pitcher and a center fielder. They have had good replacements for both in the minors. They either have bad scouts in the minors or they just don't listen to them. Either way it's poor management, but thats Major League Baseball, only they know what it best for the team.

Look at the guy's stats from his Atlanta days!!! This has nothing to do with his knee. He has never hit in the clutch. His homeruns came with the bases empty most of the time. Just face it. LA made a bad deal and now the fans have to live with it. Luckily, no matter what, its only for two years.

I need one of the coaches to say what all the fans currently see. That Jones has poor pitch recognition. Vin says that Jones is always in a 1-2 or 0-2 count, but it is because he swings at bad pitches or fouls off hitable strikes. I agree that he needs to hit the ball up the middle and stop trying to pull every pitch for a home run.

Big Ned doesn't think that he should be criticized for the free agent signings as they were the best available in a weak market. Wonder how either Hunter or Rowand would look in Dodger Blue about now and had they not traded Edwin Jackson for a rack of bats they would have a servicable major league pitcher that is 24 years old. Need not say anything about Luke Hochevar another 24 year old pitcher that the Dodgers could've had in their rotation instead of wasting money with Schmidt.

Hey just-Rog..........Hall of Fame, hell he wont ever make Fred Rogans "HALL OF SHAME"
If Jones has any guts, and is a real man he will allow the team to replace him in the lineup before his clutch hitting takes them to the cellar !
My God, how could a team like the Dodgers make so many bad mistakes, from Dreifort to Schmidt to Jones? UNREAL !

Enough of JONES trying to get his swing back, its done, the year will be done if they stick with his, he is a BUM- did you see his lack of effort when he missed S Drew's fly ball in AZ? He cant swing @ strikes he is lost @ the plate- it is clear, he either has lost his skills or is on dope....we were dopes to sign this guy, Thanks Ned! What was not Julio Franco available! Showcase him for a trip to jacksonville, can hit hit AA pithcing- I doubt it, maybe Little LEague- maybe NOT....LA Fans need to be PO'd he is ruing this season

Maybe Im going out on a limb, but Id venture to guess, Dick Cheney could hit a curve ball better than Jones, and Im sure Bush could at least look just as stupid swinging at air, he blows enough of the hot stuff out of his A-- on a daily basis!
On a lighter note, did anyone see the amazing speech by Obama today ? This country does have a light at the end of the tunnel if we can get together and elect this man !
Ill get off the bandwagon, Andrew Jones is on SPORTS CENTERS HIGHLIGHTS......hahah~ JUST KIDDING !

Ned,

When P.T. Barnum said "There is a sucker born everyday." He certainly had you in mind. The difference is that you prove that day after day in in-actions and actions. McCourt has to be a mental mess because of you.

You have very little knowledge at running a business. I bet that Brian Sabean is still laughing because you got the Dodger job. You are his Trojan horse to help bring down the Dodgers.

If you look at the Schmidt and Jones signings they are the worse. In both instances you bought damaged goods at a premium with nothing in between.

Is this anyway to run a team? Certainly not, you have Martin's contract coming up. If anyone on your teamd deserves the $18 million that Jones is getting, it is Martin. He produces, plays while injured, gives you a 7 day a week catcher, a two time all-star and has the attitude of a 11 year-old playing for fun. I am certain he will take Jones deal into consideration when you negotiate his next contract. And what is the message that sends to Loney, Kemp, Ethier and DeWitt? I was never a big Juan Pierre fan, but I like him ore and more each day now, he has heart. Somebody should check to see if Jones has a pulse. Jones is certainly a "dead man" striking out each time at the plate.

You could have kept Luis Gonzalez for $2 million a year and have a legitimate bat to turn to from the bench. He is putting up respectable numbers as a reserve at Florida. What about J.D. Drew also? You mean you couldn't have matched the offer for him, when you had money for the clowns you chose. But you had to get Jones. He wouldn't have started at Atlanta this year and he is only a season away from playing for some independent team in New Jersey. You certainly are the business man Ned. Minor league GM's laugh at you. What's next Ned, are you going to sign Bonds? Maybe you can reach Canseco also?

Jones is actually a thief in my mind for accepting the money, but that is another issue. Jones probably thinks someone will go "Lyman Bostock" on him if he offers to return any money to the club or give it to charity. He should keep only $2 million for his self, and that's a gift, and give the remainder to charity or his teamates for picking up the slack for him.

Now that Colletti is the joke of the year in baseball; he should do the honorable thing and resign effective immediately.

If McCourt has any amount of guts or brains, he should fire Colletti and ship off Jones to New Jersey for a dozen rosin bags.

To the rest of the Dodgers, take heart in that your doing great for playing 8 players against 9 players in every game that Jones is in. The fans will be running Jones and Colletti out of town soon. Maybe Kim Ng will be your next GM and you will be paid what your worth and she will flush Jones down the sewer as her first move. Can't you all hear the applause when that happens. Maybe she will also get rid of that marketing success out in the pavilon that is poisoning the fatsos with more junk food. You need to make those seats wider Frank, their lard butts wont fit in them. But save a place for Jones there, he needs more Nachos to get into shape.
