To heck with the "Poltergeist" Curse, MGM has hired a pair of writers to tackle its planned remake of the supernatural classic.

Does anyone actually believe this will be good? BOOGEYMAN was one of the worst horror films of the past 10 years; these guys wouldn't know horror if it snuck up and bit 'em on the ass.

This is so L-A-M-E. Why does MGM think its okay to remake a cult classic? MTV is remaking the Rocky Horror Picture Show too. Are they all so pathetic? Are you so untalented that instead of coming up with an original idea or taking a chance on a new script that you just destroy a perfectly good movie? What else can we remake? How about Citizen Cain or The Godfather? I would say Rosemarie's Baby but I don't want to give them any ideas.

Raping another old classic, why can't these college-educated morons come up with their OWN ideas.
Probably because they don't have any, their imaginations were taken away from them when they were being indoctrinated and assimilated into the colleges and universities that everyone thinks are so wonderful. |

I wonder how long it is before they actually dare to touch "Gone With the Wind"? Or are there actually some classic movies out there that everyone wants to leave alone?
IF "Gone With the Wind" were remade though, I'd prefer they do it as a high budget TV mini-series as I don't know how well a movie of such great length would go over with today's movie goers in theaters. I say a TV mini-series with A list actors and big budget because I don't want to see this story butchered to fit into 2 1/2 hours... plus with the freedom of a week long TV event it could be even more faithful to the book than the original movie was. Or if you wanted to be ULTRA-faithful, turn it into a regular TV series stretching the movie over the length of one full TV season (or two). Still I'd much rather they leave well enough alone and not re-make that movie. |

All the good movie ideas have already been done, so a remake of a fair-to-middling horror flick doesn't surprise me. Of course, since we are in the Duh Era of movie-making, the film will be bloodier, more vulgar and make about as much sense as an episode of Twin Peaks translated into Dutch by a Russian dyslexic. Then again, we might be surprised, and the remake might be as good as The Parent Trap, which to me is the far better version of the two (no damn annoying Frankie and Annette googly-googly duets, for one thing). Unfortunately, everything good will eventually be remade by people who haven't a lick of sense, artistic ability or sense of culture, so be prepared for the inevitable remakes of the aforementioned Gone With the Wind as a modern version, more in keeping with Sex In the City That Was Atlanta Before the War Between the States than anything decent, as well as Star Wars redone by the same folks who thought Flash Gordon needed an updated version. We live in strange times. Too bad "strange" in the year almost-2009 equates with blatant stupidity.

If all of the old movies from 20 years ago are remade, what kind of movies are going to come out 20 years from NOW?
If they cast Dakota Fanning as the little girl, I will kill a kitten. No joke, MGM. Do you want a cute kitten death on your conscience? |
|
Dakota is too old for the part of the little girl in "Poltergeist" now. So I wouldn't worry too much. However, there's still her younger sister... |

Methinks Dakota Fanning is a little too old now to play wee Carol-Anne, so the kittens of the world are safe. :P

This is a remake we are talking about, I doubt they will stick exactly to the original.
Kittens are never safe. Never. |

this remake sounds like a great idea!

Even the great Alfred Hitchcock remade one of his own films "The Man who knew Too Much". I loved Poltergeist when i was young and the positive to this is that it will bring the story to a whole new audience. Everyone will always think more of the original, but in some cases remakes can bring a new angle to an old story. I hope they keep it creepy and supernatural and dont go the gore route. At heart this was a good ghost story. Here's keeping my fingers crossed!

When are we going to learn to leave the classics alone.

When people start using a thing called imagination to come up with new, cool movies. Til then, we have remakes of average horror movies. I'm waiting for when they remake The Exorcist. Any day now.
