This film is amazing. It is a haunting tale told in the style of Hitchcock, set to the thematic elements of love and redemption. For those who wanted nothing but aliens, car chases and mindless explosions, you are most certainly out of luck. This is an intelligent film, a thinking-person's crumpet. Gillian Anderson's performance is a revelation, proving she is one of the top contemporary talents. "I Want To Believe" is a dark, moody film concerning one couple's struggle to reconcile within themselves and each other the opposing forces of science, faith, and philosophy. Two people so consumed by a need to save what has already been lost, seeking relief or redemption for a self-perceived crime or sin, that they nearly destroy the very thing that offers them any solace or comfort in the world. This film is gritty and I believe too real for many people. It holds a mirror up to society and the reflection is not always pleasing. "I Want To Believe" challenges its characters and its audience.

As in my favorite episodes of the series, I noticed more connections and more layers of the plot with a second viewing, but I was carried through first and foremost by the emotional line of the characters I already loved. The first time through felt much like one of the lower budget shows from the first or second episodes, which, when the SAID it was set in West Virginia, actually FELT it was in West Virginia, and Scully was kept from Mulder till it was time to save his ass. The next time around I was able to enjoy the process of watching Scully make the connections and figure out the case. And finally, the third time, I finally could appreciate and make them myself. The experience is much like the way I loved and always will love the show, realizing how much more is there that I orginally thought each time through. I realize this is not what many would want in a movie experience, but I differ with anyone calling the plot uninspiring. The answers are there, you just have to know where to look. And when you are able to see how these plot elements play into the characters' quest for meaning, it is as rewarding as any of the storylines I have followed over one hour or two with these people. I can understand the hesitance of non-fans not willing to invest, and perhaps even some of the critics haughtiness, but I cannot, for the life of me understand supposed claims of "I was a big fan of the show... and I'm so disappointed." I have to believe those people to be Bandwagon jumpers both then and now because to miss the point that the emotion onscreen has always been far more important than the inticacies of the plot being neatly laid out for mass consumption, is to never have truly loved at all. The X-Files was always a quest for faith and meaning within an illusive, ever-shifting framework of reality. I think the real fans get it, and that should be enough, since it was made for them in the first place. I just hope their voices can ultimately be heard through the roar of so many imposters.

I went to the movie I spent my $10 bucks I was worried after reading comments...and happy I went. It was thoughtful, provocative, entertaining. I am still thinking through the themes and issues from the movie. Seriously, it's been almost a week and I'm still remembering interesting parts of the story. That's the kind of movie I love, ones that challenge and keep you thinking.

Great return of our two favorite FBI agents. But even if you're not an X File fan, the movie is well worth seeing.

My husband and I both really enjoyed this movie. I think that some of the negative reviews are from people who may not have ever really followed the show. And for people who didn't, it is a great thriller with wonderful actors. It has a great script, a great plot and was really pretty freaky. Definitely worth seeing while it is in the theatres!

I've already seen the movie twice and I'm planning on seeing it again and again. I think it was utterly fantastic and it was exactly what I expected. As a lot of people have written, there is no need for tremendous special effects or gruesome scenes to determine whether the movie is a success or not. The show had many levels and one of them was about analyzing ourselves and beliefs. Also the relationship of Mulder and Scully evolves which is something we've always wanted to see. People just freak out when all the answers aren't clear to them because everything isn't explicit. Chris Carter probably would have dealt with the other levels of the show; the mythology for example, but because of all the bad reviews it has received, I doubt he'll make an X Files 3. This is a real shame, since the really faithful fans were expecting a closure for the whole "December 22, 2012 alien invasion" thing.

I absolutely loved the series, just as much as I did the first film, and I hope this one turns out to be as good, if not better.
