Just because "everyone" does it, it doesn't make things right. Maybe with their names in the paper and the citations they'll think twice about what might happen the next time.

all the photos on facebook are subject to be viewed at anytime, and im sure these kids know that since of recent incidents at other schools. These kids made a mistake, and they will be punished, just because their names are known doesn't give anyone the write to trash them or their family. Let's just hope they have learned their lesson.

As if Catholic will punish their golden b-ball star!
They will give these "kids" slaps on their little wrists and sweep it under the carpet as if nothing happened. Sound familiar????
Better yet, the kids that are not that "well known" will get the stiffest punishment, if any, and the "celebrities" will get nothing!

This White on White crime must end. Its to bad the drinking age in Maryland isnt 18 like it was when i was young.

Today I sit here and read this article
and I am a little concerned that the writer of this artilcle would say this has been a problem in this school district. I would hope they understand this goes on in all school district |
It does,It has, and it will.. Even over 30 yrs ago when i was in high school it was a problem, well not really a problem alcohol was available like now. |

Christy, you are exactly right, they won't do a damn thing...that's why I propose that facebook pictures are sent in too. I have seen the pics for myself, and yes, these kids are that dumb. Even if YC does nothing, I think High Point might be interested in the photos.

It was the Kennard Dale parents that whined and got their kids off. I don't think it made it into the paper until the parents got the press invovled trying to avoid their punishment.

I dont think the KD kids were charged with underage drinkingt like the YC angels were. There were just photos of them near booze.

Wow, it really is pathetic how many people - especially people from all the way down in Virginia - are concerned with this and things like Jacob Iati's facebook. High School seniors drink all of time, especially after prom. It's a special night and that's how people celebrate it afterwards. York Catholic is held to a higher standard (it holds itself to it) and so when these types of stories are published, believe me, the administrators and teachers will come down hard on the kids for bringing attention to the school that doesn't uphold that standard. No other school in York County even comes close - my god, if there was a news story published everytime students from West York, Susquehannock, Central, Kennard Dale, Suburban, York High, etc. were cited for underage drinking, let alone the serious drug busts, and the fights and everything else. As someone pointed out, nowhere in this report does it mention and DUIs - these kids were at least being responsible. These are all good kids who are going to be just fine in the future; getting cited for an underage is a minor incident, and it's a shame that weeks before graduation the entire county has to read about it. Remember, they are 18 year old kids - and just because Jacob is an outstanding ball player or Kelly Rhein is a star athlete doesn't mean that you should be insulting them, especially when you do not know them.

How OLD are you people...judgemental, ridiculing, unsympathetic...I can't believe that most of you have not lived it!! Kids are no different then in 1975... and WHY haven't we learned how to communicate more effectively with teens? And why is there a double standard for School officials and other adults in the forefront? And finally why can we not use this as a way to communicate with kids, instead of being judgemental? Take your blinders, kids need the support of family, school and community....and YES, sometimes that means picking yourself and making it better...believe me kids, everyone has been there.

if they did not get arrested on the spot, the charges are less serious and they will probably get a summons in the mail. also if they were tested, results will help determine who was under the influence and who wasn't . ms. doaks sounds like one of those crybaby parents that refuses to admit her kid is NOT perfect. she is siding with her son and is known as an enabler. look for him to be in the news again. |

If you're going to drink or do whatever underage, prepare to be responsible for the choice you've made. These kids obviously made an informed decision prior to the event and must be prepared to deal with the consequences. There are D1 athletes on the list, and THEY HAVE NO EXCUSE--they know the drill. For YC parents, I suggest and kindly, that you look into instituting a post prom party at your school to help kids resist the temptation that this group of kids succumbed to. Other schools do it, and with great success. YC parents beware and be on alert, there are party houses that are well known among alumni and in neighborhoods where these kids ARE, and have been seen.
Please don't finger point at the newspaper. It IS page one news, regardless of which school's prom it is, and we should all be glad that it is called to our attention. Better to have children cited today, than others dead next week because they drove drunk. It could happen to any parent in this county at any time, and we all need to be vigilant. This is a courtesy reminder to all of us who are raising children, not a hand slap to those who get caught. I graduated in the late 70's from a public school in the county, and YC was known as the hard partying school then. I got the invite to parties many times but chose not to go. Sorry, but that's the way was it was. I stayed away then... but, things haven't changed. Lastly, SHAME, SHAME on the parents who hosted this party. I'd like to see your name in your church bulletin under the parish news heading, and I hope you get outed and sued. You deserve whatever you get. Parents who believe they are providing a service by allowing other people's children to drink at their home are both foolish and fooling themselves. If you claim ignorance then you're just plain stupid. |

And there you have it....John's problem with York Catholic. All about sports, isn't it? Just rediculous that YDR felt this was front page news. I am not condoning this behavior, or saying that their names should be omitted, but it should have been left in the police doc section where it belongs. You want fair...post the names of EVERY OTHER kid cited for underage drinking on the front page!!!! Is YDR prepared to do that!!!! I remember plenty of parties busted when I was in school. None of their names made the paper. |
So..it will make you feel better to destroy this boy's career? Seriously!!! For making the same mistake thousands of other kids make? Belive me, he will get his punishment, no need to ruin his life!! |
I think they did list the kids!
If this wasnt published I'm sure that the school would have swept it under the carpet like thye church has a well known history of doing with child molesting priests! Bu it just isnt YC! ALL schools protect their star athletes from anything that would be detrimental to their prize athletic programs! |
