THE FITH COMMANDMENT: Thou Shall Not Kill
Traditional translations of this phrase into English have tended to use the word kill. Certain scholars have suggested that this is not the most accurate translation. The key phrase, often translated "to kill" (rasah), began in the twentieth century to be translated "Thou shalt not murder," is seen in newer translations of the Bible such as the New Revised Standard Version.

why not? Soom of them are so sick they need to be put to death. Putting a convicted murderer to sleep is not cruel and unusual punishment and when so many good working folk out here go without then a prisoner should go without even more. More frequent executions are necessary.

Point of the article was that the guy claimed he was too fat and may be desensitized for a lethal injection. It wasn't about capital punishment, nor was it about if he was wrongly convicted or even his race. What he did was horrific, and there are several solutions for carrying out the peoples' will in Ohio. This is just a ploy by his lawyer to stretch things out a bit - I'm sure the corrections people will find a way to carry out the sentence.

Fine if lethal injection won't work because of how fat he is, then put him in front of the firing squad. There won't be any missing a fat as$ like that.

Gee let's give more leniency to the effing monsters on death row.

Guess Ohio doesn't have the "can't execute mentally retarded people" thing that Texas does.

Funny how after that came out, so MANY Texas Death Row Inmates became retarded. What the fork ever.

Execute DAVID LEONARD WOOD in the same manner that he killed those girls.

Texas is a state that executes more than anywhere else. So according to your theory their violent crime and murder rates should be down, right? GUESS WHAT, THEY'RE NOT! So much for your theory...
In the 1800s they hung horse thieves, so why not fry auto thieves? Texas is starting to get it right, but they need to execute a lot more. Cutting the hands off pickpockets and shop lifters would be good too.

Actually there is a much better method of dealing with these types of criminals. It's called solitary. 23 hours alone each day with 1 hour in a 5 by 7 walkway for fresh air and time for a quick shower. No special favors, no tv or radio, just 3 meals a day and alone to ponder your crime. Of course the bleeding heart liberals would be jumping out of their skins screaming about cruel and unusual punishment, but hey, no death penalty. We are punishing them for their crimes, not pampering them for committing crimes. The cost of keeping the scumbags incarcerated is alot less so it is a less strain on the taxpayer. If they want to hang themselves so be it, they're making their own choice at that point. The money we save we can use to help those in need or put it to a healthcare system for those that need it.

Agreed, in fact studies have shown that their required hard labor actually covers their cost of incarseration.

Ya' know, a lot of people in Santa Cruz have screws loose, so some of the questions here have been valid... Our friend seems to be fighting back & forth with himself, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic.

I've seen him say in one entry that his problem is only the cruel & unusual part, and that he doesn't deny that the guy deserves to take a bullet. But now I just read in another entry that he plain doesn't think the government should kill anyone (neatly) but it's OK for the other vermin in the prison to do our execution for us (not so neatly...)

Kacy also has somewhat good points, but how do you know that life in prison is not more inhumane for an innocent man than lethal injection? Also, our system is already based on the idea that it's better for 10 guilty men to go free than 1 innocent to be convicted. At some point you have to draw the line, though.

Now on to my own simple, logical opinion [ and yes, I realize that it's my opinion that my opinion is simple & logical 8O)]

DNA technology has given us the highest level of certainty in the history of criminal law, and therefore the least likelihood of wrong convictions. Going forward thing can only improve.

I and other civilized people do not desire 'vengeance' or to inflict pain or torture, we simply want the "problem" removed from society, and in the most efficient manner possible. If California didn't take 25 years to execute someone, they wouldn't be looking at spending a half a billion bucks on a new death row.
I can't help but see the irony in complaints that "death row" is too crowded - Uh, I think I know how to reduce the crowding...

Finally, in typical government fashion, these numb-nuts have over-complicated the process and introduced the possibility of excruciating pain into the lethal injections by coming up with this stupid 3-drug sequence. Every year, all over the world, we put our pets to sleep with a single shot of barbiturates. Moreover, many drug users accidentally kill themselves with overdoses of opiates...

Why the hell can't the executions just pump a steady stream of pentobarb or morphine into the convicted murderers? Without the silly use of different drugs to do different things, there would be no doubt that the subject would be completely asleep before he died.

I'm not fighting with myself, you're simply missing the point. My problem is that its my opinion that it sets a dangerous precedent to allow the state to execute any members of the public, criminal or not. However, I'm no fan of rapists and the like so put 'em all in with the rest of the dudes in prison and whatever happens, happens.

If I lived in Ohio- I'd say don't waste my tax dollars keeping him in prison. Just shoot him, hang him...whatever. However, I'm sure they'll find a vein some how. Sounds like BS to me.

The problem with not enforcing the death penalty is that there is always the chance that some liberal governor will get into office and parole these maggots back out into the public.

I completely agree that life in prison for an innocent person is inhumane... but if they are later proven innocent, at least they can get out of prison. To the best of my knowledge, you can't make someone un-dead.
