Who inspected the deck. Shouldn't they be held responsible. Isn't that why I continue to pay 10% fees to the borough whenever I build on my property.

More good press to attract good people back to the city. Was the deck built with a permit being issued? Any inspection done? Even a half-wit do-it-yourselfer knows that trying a deck into the wall is a pretty important thing to do. Especially a deck set that far above ground level.
The injured parties should have an easy court case with this one. Or maybe they can negotiate for $30,000 off the purchase price?

Hey Steve's girl - we've been doing contracting work in the city for years and we always pull permits. The city inspectors constantly ride around looking for "underground" work. They are pretty good at what they do and mostly reasonable unless they smell BS from the hacks doing the job. It's always possible the homeowner put this up.

I went by the property and you are right, NO VISIBLE permit in view. I checked the York city web site, but could not find a permit or inspectors job listed. Im gonna go apply for it even if its not a posted job. All city council members meetings consist of, is all the problems with the educational system and truancy.

Can they sue the homeowner if they are injured? Before we purchased our home there were many scary things we came across in our hunt - lots of WOBBILY decks.

Maybe the contractor was taking a crap while Bob Villa was explaining the importance of connecting the deck to the house.
