Wait and see if this bill pass, what is next? Let the ones who want to come to our country learn OUR lanuage. I'm sick of hearing about there rights. Until we take our country back and STOP letting just everyone into our country, this will be just the beginning of a list of problems to come. English being one, our school are already so overcrowed, jobs should be for American first, and the list goes on and on. We already gives way to much money to other countries, now we spend even more on foreigns in our own country. When does it stop?

You say you don't mind legal immigrants, but what if they can't speak English, yet? They have the same burden as the illegals, then? Isn't that a violation of the equal protection clause of the Constitution?
I do not care if you are legal or illegal, it should not be our burden to communicate with them. If you are going to move to a country you should learn to speak to the people.

It does not violate equal protection laws.

I know a woman that is getting SSI becaues she can't read or speak our lanuage. Have you ever heard anything that is so stupid? She has been here for years, not sick, very healthy, young lady. Just sitting back drawing Gov. money that AMERICAN people work everyday and pays taxs to GIVE her this $620 a month. NOW, how many other are drawing this money to? Getting foodstamps? No wonder people are sick of having all of these people rammed down our lives. We have enough trying to take care of our own families and don't need others who just want to get handouts.

dont get sidetracked

this isnt about them getting jobs....or drawing foodstamps, or SSI or anything else

this is about the plain & simple fact that the city government should NOT pay to have translators on staff for ANY nationality

learn to speak english or pay for your OWN translator

When you create a legal precedent, i.e., require translators for a particular language, where would it end? How many people speaking how many languages could demand translators on staff for their UNIQUE problem?

I realize this is about the problem of our ENGLISH. I believe that when anyone comes into our country that THEY should learn our language. We always hear so many of our systems say they are strapped for funding, well, I just don't think we, as tax payer, should have to put ANY money into them learning English.

thats the point...it doesnt have to go anywhere else...its already in place

thats what the English First bill about, city government will only have to use ENGLISH in its day to day operation, they already have to provide translators as things are

the bill is trying to stop it before it gets any worse

As I see it.......
IF you live in The United States, born here then the language is: English
NO NEED TO VOTE and spend money doing so.
There is NO NEED for an option of what language is to be first.... English is.
IF you immigrate to The United States and make this your home... then you need to make an attempt to learn "English".
If you cannot learn or will not learn ( big difference here) then there are always helpful people at business each day to assist you. In my employment, I do this each day.
We must all be helpful & "get along" with each other it matters not where anyone came from, what matters greatly is that we are all here living around each other.
* By the way all the name calling on here is a great sign of No Education and really unneccessary.
Thank you, Cathy
What are you goingo when they come in and take your job because they speak spanish better than you do?

I think that it does.

However, I am going to drop out of this conversation. You guys are obsessed with immigrants! Legal or illegal.

You don't care about the English language. If you cared about it, you would use it a lot better than you do in your comments.

It is too bad that Crafton and the other West Nashville racists don't put the same energy into establishing language training classes so these people would more easily become part of our community.

But, obviously, that is not their goal.

I did not get interview for one of 2 positions in Smyrna courts because I did not speak Spainish. I do not know if they ever filled the postion or not, but I have heard when they found someone who could speak Spainish they was not qualified for the job.

If people really knew the truth on how little if any that the illegals pay in taxes and what a burden they are to our economy alot more would be done. you talk about one woman drawing $600.00 + multiply that by 1,000's.

This is outrageous to not get a job because you don't speak spanish.I heard in cal.if you don't know spanish you cannot get a job.If something is not done it will be that way here.
