I don't expect the school to raise them....but I do expect my kids to have a safe environment to learn in. If there are kids that don't feel safe, then the school is not doing it's job.(This coming from the schools own handbook regarding bullying.) Have a great day.

<quoted text>I doubt if he really knew the meaning of homosexual. He was trying to get attention. I don't believe he hung himself. I don't believe he knew how to tie a slip knot or how high to tie the rope. I heard he hung himself on a curtain rod. I've never saw a curtain rod in a bathroom strong enough to hold a 80 or 90 pound kid. Strange ain't it.
it was a shower rail to a built in tub an it wasn't a slip knot or even a rope

To a post before being gay isnt a CHOICE!! That's like saying a straight male can be with another straight male even those they are attracted to women. Think about it.. why would two straight males get together if it's not their cup of tea. Its an orientation. All should be accepted and what happenes in ones private/personal life shouldnt affect anyone else. I think the mental capacity of "bullies" should be check out more. Maybe come to terms with some anger issue they may have. Either way.. everyone is going to be who they are, acceptance of other is what we need. It's nearly like civil right all over again.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but maybe Mrs. Hord is still working because she's done nothing wrong. Don't believe the media hype. The reports I have seen have been poorly researched, fueled by questionable sources, and blatantly biased. Facts don't need a journalist to speak for them: They speak for themselves. The truth always comes out, gville. Let's wait for that moment before we start calling for innocent people's jobs.

The facts are that several parents have been to the school to complain about their children being bullied and when nothing was done, went to the school board and still nothing was done. Maybe if they followed their own policies regarding bullying the situation wouldn't have escalated to the point it did. As long as the teachers (especially the administration) have close family ties to the community nothing will change. The jocks will do as they please and those that are singled out for ridicule will have no where to go. The teachers, admin, school board will watch each others backs and the kids that need the most help will fall through the cracks. It has been that way as long as I can remember and I don't see it changing any time soon.

You have certainly managed to weave an overwhelming degree of your own opinion into those “facts,” dnm, but Topix is hardly the place for actual facts. The title of this thread is “Parents Of Gay Teen Say School Bullying Caused Suicide,” and that is the issue I am addressing. As for the facts of that matter, I’m sure the state of Texas has plenty of facts about Phillip’s biological father, a registered sex-offender who only recently came into Phillip’s life after being released from prison. Likewise, I feel confident that the Department of Human Services has plenty of facts as to why none of Phillip’s multiple siblings, his mother’s children, were ever in her care. Phillip’s grandparents were, in fact, his legal guardians, were they not?(Why?)

Rarely, though, do I see his grandparents, his legal guardians, accusing the school of not taking responsibility for Phillip’s death. More often I see his so-called parents demanding the school be held responsible, when they themselves have never taken any responsibility for this poor child until now.(Grief? Guilt? Greed?) It’s not my intent to assign blame, but since it seems to be yours, who do you believe is more responsible for a child, dnm, the parents who brought him into this world and then all-but abandoned him for the majority of his life, or the administration, faculty, and students of the school where he was enrolled for about twelve weeks before his tragic death? What is your opinion?

Wow...defense much.....If you read my post, then you would know I never blamed anyone....UNLIKE you. I just said the situation would not have escalated if the school had followed their own rules in regards to bullying. You can read it yourself, it's on the school board's website. I never said the school was to blame for the tragic loss of life. I'm sure there were a multitude of factors that lead this young man to the decision he made but that is something that neither you nor I will ever know and no matter what his parents, grandparents or anyone else listed in your post "did" or "didn't do", they are human and we all make mistakes. If they loved him they are in a tremendous amount of pain and I'm sure it's only compounded by people who are picking them apart because of their shortcomings. I'm not perfect and have done things that I regret when I was younger so I'm not throwing stones at anyone. I'll leave all the judgment up to a highter power than me. All I want is to see something good come from something so tragic. I don't gossip and I don't try to stir up drama but I do speak out when I feel strongly on a subject. I feel it's our community's duty to make sure that our children are protected in our schools. I think it's time we honored this young man instead of dragging his name and his families through the mud. And yes, I can state facts as they pertain to me, my kids, my family and my friends as I have lived here my whole life. My parents went to school here, as did I and my siblings..and now my kids.

Facts sometimes get covered up. The private investigation should seprate fact from lies.THE GUILITY persons, if any, should be exposed

I don't think a kid in third grade would know if he is gay or not. Sounds like his parents were telling him that. Prepping him.

The attempt at bringing back hate speech laws censoring Christians and the Bible, in this Bullying law, can not happen since the hate speech laws were overturned by the Federal Supreme Court, in Phelps hearings, and the legal right to debate the issue upheld!
The state of TN can not over ride the Federal Supreme Court!
If the parents are shucking blame, try blaming those liberal gay activists using the youth to get their politics into schools not caring that those kids are not able to emotionally with stand the daily arguing this gay activism involves!
