What makes the difference about someone's sexual orientation at the age of 14? This is a time to play and have fun, not worry about sex. His teachers and friends that say, all of this was going on, and didn't help, that makes them just as guilty as the bullies themselves. All people involved will have to live with this forever. As for phillip he is not in pain anymore, but his family will always be in pain caused by some inconsiderate people who obviously dont care about any thing or any one but themselves. This is not the first time a tragedy of this nature has happend, but it is sad to think that people are really this ignorante that a child felt that he had to take his own life to stop his suffering. It was not his choice to be this way it is a proven medical fact they are born that way. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and my most wishes of karma go to the people that caused him to take his life in such a way

I agree -- all people involved will have to live with this forever...... but I think that judgement is being passed around without ALL facts being known!! To respond to the other comment about Karma -- well don't you think that that is immature to wish Karma on the other children who was doing the bullying.... dont you think that they need help as well?------ they are just kids!!!????!!! I think that more parenting needs to be involved ---- Don't you?????

I would venture to say that straight kids get picked on too. Why are they making a big deal over the fact that this kid was gay? Sounds like his family would rather raise a stink over their gay kid instead of owning up to the fact that they and many other adults in this young mans life missed his cries of help. As I said, I'm sure other kids get picked on too and the lack of intervention from adults is indicative that the bullying will continue. I hope this is a wake up call and I feel for that young man. I hate that he had nobody in his life to talk to or to notice the signs before such drastic measures. How terrible...

How dare you guest from gainsboro say what you said. The parents are looking for money??????? For real? How dare you!!!!!!!!!! This family is distraught (do you know what that means?)! Have your child or children bullied for various reasons and do you will know what it feels like? I am a teacher in Tennessee who makes sure students are not bullied to the best of my abilities. It is my DUTY to investigate and report abuse, whether it's from parents or peers. I will REPORT anything I feel is abuse. DO NOT put any blame on the parents. The students who were part of this boy's demise should be found, suspended from school, do community work, and extremely helded accountable for their actions. AGAIN...How dare you point a finger at the family. Just making it sound good (according to you)

If it is a poor family it is always their environment. The "smart elects "that harrassed this child should be called to be accountable. MONEY and getting into pocketbooks is the only thing some folks understand. His parents have nothing to do with being abused at school. This child should have been taken seriously and helped. Mark Medley is a great person a shame their are not more educators that are fair to every one, and are compassionate!

Lets just wait and see what happens when all the facts come out. So far its been he said, she said, and the news. The news of he said, she said. There may be more to the story than we know. Law enforcement has no choice but to investigate this. Public opinion is looming.

They are standing up their as the griefing parents to PROFITT! They were not involved in this childs life until now~They like being in the spot light! They will have no problem putting a price tag on their grief and loss! Boy do you suck at you job because bullying is taking place in your school right now!

If not, an autopsy should have been made. After looking at the kids picture, I doubt if he was capable of making a slip knot or knowing exactly how high to tie the rope. A lot of factors are to be considered.

This is a tragedy...it shouldn't have happened...but if your mature enough to be openly gay you hafe to know that there is gonna be some teasing and cruel comments coming...kids will be kids..you can raise them right..teach them not to do things all you want..but remember..these are children..what do children do? They act like children...don't lay blame on them..just try your best to teach them right and hope like hell it sticks...be involved..talk with your kids...know what they are doing...keep them busy..get them imvolved and remember...you can't control everything

I am frustrated with the amount of ignorance that I have read on this tread and others. Until u have a friend or family member that is gay, do make an assumption that it is a life choice. there are medical conditions that cause these types of thing..do u know that there are babies born each day with both sets of male and female organs? the parents have to decide then which way to raise this child, what if the parent chooses wrong? not to say that all gays are in that situation, but that does occur. I dont think it's a life choice. You feel what u feel, you love who you love at that's that. Can u tell me that if you had your child come to you and tell you that they were gay that you would love them less? Bottom line is this, the young man is longer here, he felt like he had no support and everything needs to be looked at, the bullies, the teachers or other faculty and the family life.
