Instead of beating the dog, I think I might would have liked to have beaten the owner. What did he think the little girl dad should have wanted to do? If It had been my child I would have wanted this dog dead, and this couple held responibly for the damage and pain and suffering, and maybe even jail if he didn't show mercy for what his dog did.

I live across the street from them. The lady walking the dog weighs like 110 lbs and walks two pit bulls at a time. I have also had two run in's with the dog and had to spray it with pepper spray. The owner is lying about euthanizing that dog, I think. It's like he doesnt give a crap at all about the girl being bitten. This entire neighborhood is filled with vicious looking dogs and the owners always say they dont bite. I have a little dog that wouldnt survive if he ran off. He would be eaten alive.

I feel heartbroken to see any child go through a tramatic experience such as this. I'm agaisnt people owniong Pit Bull's as time and time again they attack people. Where was Zoe Johnson's parents while she was aloowed to be running around unsupervised? My other question is why was this dog running loose? Both the owner of the dog and the parents of Zoe should be paying attention and be responsible for both their animal and especially their children.

You got to be kidding me. If a dog attacks the first time, that should be it. This little girl could have died, as well as the other child the dog bit in the past. What is wrong with these freaking rules we have???

You talk about the child as though she was a animal. The parents could have been out there watching the child play.

Don't blame the parents, Birdie. If they had been beside their child, they could not of prevented it. Don't blame the dog breed either. Blame that **** that has been hitting that crack pipe to often. What sane person leaves a bleeding child?
If I were the parents of that child,I would want proof that dog had been put down. Next, I would appeal to the courts for justice $...,The dog owners, need to lose all their animals, other large cities take animals from owners like this. Clarksville is even more backward, dogs attack everyday.

I'm with everybody else on this one WHERE WAS THE PARENTS. A four year old child does not need to be outside unattended. Yes I own a pit and he is the sweetest dog there is all he wants is his belly rubbed. The way a dog is raised and if a dog feels threatened has alot to do with the behavior or any animal. Most or the owners or vicious dogs don't spend time teaching them just like most or the kids that get into trouble. The owner of the dog should have put the dog down after the first attack. It is common for dog that have tasted blood to repeat the process. I hope the animal control checks on the other dog in these people own.

Some on this issue keep blaming the parents of the little girl. No where in this article does it say the little girl attacked the dog. As for the child playing outside, every child at 4 years old plays outside.
I have a small pet dog and I love it dearly. I put up an invisible fence and trained it to not go beyond the fence. It is the owners fault this occured and not the little girls fault.

Well, this is sad. Why does it take a second offense before something is done? There should never have been a second offense!!!! People need to watch their dogs closer.(For the Stewart Family) you know you have a mean dog.. DO NOT walk him around the neighborhood. Maybe you would have preferred he hit YOU with the ball bat instead of trying to hit your dog. You have no concern for this poor child. Maybe it would'nt be as bad on your part if you had shown some sympathy. But you clearly don't!

I guess i am having trouble understanding what the appeal of a pit bull is? It seems everytime you hear of an attack its by a pit bull. So what sttracts people to this breed?

need to ban the breed like Dade county Fl. and also take the bat to the owner of the dog for the way he feels, cares more about the dog than a human life.

I have doubts the dog was euthanized. Can somebody explain to me why the dog was taken to Alabama to be euthanized? It makes no sense.

They could have family in ALA. and as the breed of pit bulls I have a pit bull mix and he is the sweetest dog in the world, he has help raise 3 of our cats from kittenhood just like a mother. so it is the way the breed is raised and treated that makes them the way they are. And for the women that left that child laying, bleeding on the ground because you were worried about your dog, you should be arrested for leaving the scene of an accident. personal I would have beaten all 3 of ya, both owners and the dog with the bat.

The police should require the owner to show the body of the ded dog as evidence that it was indeed put to sleep. I am willing to bet that this dog is still alive and kicking! Why would someone take a dog all the way to Alabama to have it put to sleep. I thought in cases like this that animal control were the ones that was suppose to step in and contain the dog for X amount of days and then the dog would be put to sleep. Why was the owner ever allowed to take this animal anywhere? The owner of this dog is a sorry piece of crap!!! He is not even concerned about this child! I hope that if he is lying about putting this dog to sleep that the next person it bites is him!

while I agree that after the 1st attack something should have been done, I also have to agree that the parents of the 4 yr old should have been outside watching their child! I also have to say that I dont think all pit bulls are bad, I think it is the owners that raise those dogs to be mean and be aggressive! it is the owner that should be prosecuted! maybe then they will take more responsibility for their animals, If they do have other dogs no matter what the breed, the animal control needs to investigate and find out if they were rasied to be aggressive as well.. any dog can attack if they are raised too, my parents own a German Shepard that is 80 pounds right now and is only a year old, their vet has told them from day 1 DO NOT rough house with this dog! this type of "playing" will make the dog aggrressiive and possibly lead to problems in the future! it sounds like the idiot that owned this dog needed to takes some classes on dog ownership.

If I was the dad I would have beat the dog too. That dog should have died on the first attack.

I hope they sue and prosecute the crap out of those inbred ignorant owners.

I'll kill any pitbull, or rotweiller that comes anywhere close to my property.

And I don't care what anyone thinks

This was a preventable act the man should have keep his dog on a chain. The dog should have only been allowed out when the owner was present. I have two pits and I only allow my dogs off the chain when I'm out side.

The owner is responsible for the actions of the dog and with him knowing that the dog has the potential to become violent he should have taken control of the situation to prevent this act from occurring.

When you own dogs you should have a fenced in yard this way your children and animals are protected. Whenever I see dogs wondering I call the non-emergency number to report loose dogs because you never know when a child or someone could be attacked. You should be able to go outside without fear of being attacked.
