we have our justice system to thank for this thug being out on the streets in the first place the story says he has a history of arresst; so why was he in the mall instead of being locked up like he should have been; him being only 19 i guess we have the JUVENILE JUDGE to thank for this one

I saw this coming a year ago when all the loitering began. They do the drug deals right in public now cause they know that they won't get but a slap on the wrist, some free TV time, three square meals a day and a few months to dry out and plan the next event! We need to begin to recall judges...as a free people that is our option. Let's use it!

Well the mall is at fault too for not having better security measures in place, how does someone with a loaded gun get into the mall? Rivergate needs to post security guards at all entrances and metal detectors, i dont feel safe going there anymore after this.

The mall is at fault???--the ignorant, thug kid who took a gun shopping with him is at fault. Thanks to this and other criminals, we have to go through metal detectors for just about everything, even to get an education at school. If the mall had been more pro active in keeping this guy out, they would have been sued for profiling and gotten so much negative publicity it would hurt the stores. Put blame where the blame belongs--the ones who break the law. The mall did nothing wrong. Put this guy and others like him away for a full 25 years and things might change. You want a police state and a loss of your rights? Keep letting the thugs rule your life, schools, and businesses and you have that coming.

Let me first begin by saying we as the general public should not judge. Granted he should not have been shooting in such a public place; however one should take into account possible underlying circumstances. As far as the judge; the judges that have tried this young may more than likely know more about him that these people on her commenting on his "thuggish looks" etc. Let me ask you one thing, If i were to see you would i say that you looked like a redeck prejudice hillbilly hick? Thank about yourself before judging this young man and look deeper into the video and maybe you too would have enough sense to know that something more was going on. What would you do if three men threatned you pregnate girlfriend and then ran up on you.. would you or would you not defend yourself in some way. Judge not least ye be judged.

ok im obvisously not from nashville but the previous entry said that the crime rate had began to rise infront of the mall so has anyone even thought that something happened previously to entering the mall and the men behind seem to be running up on him. No its not right to carry it inside a crowded shopping mall but it appears as if the situtation could have been far worse than it was. It is the police and malls job to provide security and they are not doing it. I am just saying that being too quick to judge someone is not right either.

to the last 2 posters....

nunya: Did I say that Mall Security was doing their job? no...I said it was HIS fault he fired a weapon in a crowded mall

could it have been worse? SURE....more ppl could have been hit and/or killed, its STILL his fault he did what he did and he should be punished for it

Steph: Virginia Beach Va? and you are crying "we dont know him?" he got upset cause someone was giving his gf a hard time so he starts shooting?

thats garbage so you can simply sit down & be quiet while the adult continue the conversation

there is NO excuse for what happened

"This was not anybody would call a life threatening situation, where somebody was threatening you with bodily harm and you felt like you needed to defend yourself with deadly force- nothing like that at all," said Chief Richard Pope with Goodlettsville Police.

Goodlettsville police charged Tharpe with three counts of aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, felony vandalism, unlawful weapon possession, and felony cocaine possession. He is being held on $200,000 bond.
12 grams of coke...a situation the PROFESSIONALS call "non life threatening"....and a hot headed punk that felt the need to carry a gun to the mall...maybe because he was dealing drugs there?

sorry..not the malls fault...not the guys giving his girl crap...HE was at fault for his own actions
