For everyone thinking that the 911 center is the police or fire department, Please understand it's NOT.Call takers read instruction off of a cue card to help tell you what to do.

How are we to know the dirt bag operator is no longer employed. Are we just being told another lie? How do we keep this from happening again?

I heard this on the news just this morning. Readint he comments here, it seems a lot of people are criticizing 'Sheila'. Someone even corrected her grammar! A commentator says: "If this woman's life was in that much danger, she should have called family or friends, as well as, keep calm and continue to check and see if the police were on their way". Here's what I think: someone who fears for her life or who is in any equally very stressful situation will not always do the "logical" thing! And in this case - does grammar really matter? She did not do wrong here! She needed immediate help - she called for help - she should have gotten help - end of story. The 911 operator's comment was uncalled for and is atrociously inexcusable - bar none!

Sorry: typo correction. The second sentence should say "Reading the comments here..." Thank you.

I believe that our police department fail. A police officer shouldn't been there right after a citizen called. We can't depend on our police officers at all. Because some of the dispatchers are police officers answering some of them calls. If I was that lady I would sue them. Type a letter up and send it all the way to the governer, mayor office as well as white house. Because we depend on our dispatchers to help. How do we know if that dispatcher is fired. I'm very upset because it could've been me calling for help.

just candid wrote: 911 ordeal drags on for almost three hours and she is till alive? imho, if the "boyfriend" was there with a knife and he was that angry, why did he allow her to live for the three hours she spent making those calls? Something sounds like BS. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a desperate, angry, would-be assailant? Don't you think that all Sheila needed was to feel threatened to call for help? She was fearing for her life here and I hardly think that she would have the time and presence of mind to assess her situation, make a "logical" assumption and say: "well he let me live for 3 hours - he must not be serious - I'll just free up the phone and use my time more constructively and clean my closet."

Maybe it is house cleaning time. Put someone in there that really want to work. Shelia grammar is not the factor here. Her life was in danger (point is that our system fail once again). Maybe we do need to clean house from top to bottom. May God be with the world out here today. Some people just don't care anymore.

What a horrific situation for this woman to have to go through! Fire engines are sent on useless calls everyday, they have to go not matter what. Why are the police not held as accountable as the fire department? Last weekend, we called to report our son had not come home the night before. He could have been dead on the side of the road somewhere. We were told to file a missing person's report and an officer would be right out to take our information. The operator was also very rude and I did not appreciate that when I was so upset. About an hour later our son called. Luckily he had fallen asleep at a friend's house. I called the police back to let them know we had found him and I was told an officer still had to come out to make sure he was actually ok. We are still waiting 9 days later. No officer no phone calls.

Mary wrote: This is so atrocious! This has to stop! I was attacked by my ex & I asked the police to pick him up that he was at home (when the paramedics were rushing me to the hospital) & they said there was not enough manpower to pick him up. But if he happened to be stopped for a traffic violation, then they would pick him up! if they were trying to stop someone for a hit and run they would have enough man power to stop them. they don't mind havin 3 cops to do a traffic stop but yet they can't even do anything about all these women getting abused and raped.i hope you get justice.

I know people make mistakes but this is totally unforgiveable. A person's life at risk and they can't get a cop there to see about her. The 911 operator should not only lose his job but made sure this is on his record for when trying to get another job. We pay taxes and hope somewhere along the way we can depend on help from police in an emergency. If it was me and I'd found out that help at a traffic stop was more important, don't think for one minute that I wouldn't strike up a BIG lawsuit. Have ya ever noticed how these days a traffic stop has to consist of 2 to 10 officers or the scene. You'd think there were dead bodies found in a car instaed of just speeding. Our tax money is being blown in all sorts of ways. Cops out wasting gas and going to scenes where they aren't actually needed while ya can't get one there in a hurry when there's an actual emergency.

Wow!!!! This has made national news. My daughter in Minneapolis and my friends in Denver saw it and called me to make sure I was safe since Tenneesee 911 is out of wack. I told them not to worry, I live in Ky and the 911 operators here care and really do send the cops. What kind of dog and pony show is going on in Nashville? This is terrible, Life threathing and just right down nasty!!!! And to the jerk 911 operator I really don't care if you don't have or get another job.

Yet another reason you need to arm yourself and learn to protect yourself. At it's best 911 is a way to inform police that a mess is about to happen. If you're lucky it will take your attacker longer than 5 minutes to kill you. Assuming the police decide to show up or even get dispatched in the first place.

I have worked as a dispatcher for a long time, and just let me say, I feel so sorry for this lady. I am not taking up for any dispatcher, but people must understand a dispatcher takes calls and passes them along. They cannot control how long it takes for an officer to respond. Now as for the dispatcher who said he didn't give a S*** he would be so fired if he was working for me. I will say this most dispatchers are not like this. We are caring people in general or we would not be dispatchers.

That is ridiculous for someone to be so cruel. If he didn't want to help her, he should not have taken a job where he has to help her or anyone else.

He really needs to sit and think about his actions. Lets just say that someone close to him had this happen to them and the 911 operator said the same to them, he would be **** about the situation. That's why they say that you should ALWAYS think before you open your mouth!!!!!!!!
