what can you suggest for someone who is over 40, works 50 plus hours a week & is totally exhausted? Is there something I can do that will get results without taking more than 15 or 20 minutes?

Wow...how busy our lives are in these times. I understand how exhausted you must feel. Exercise can certainly help with your overall stress level. Devoting 20 minutes a day on a functional strength training routine would reap benefits of increased metabolism and lower stress levels, and a more appeasing physique. A personal trainer could help you to design a program that would incorporate the large muscle groups, with your time constraints in mind. I also recommend that you take each opportunity in your daily life to get in the "extra step"...take the stairs at work, park farther away at the grocery store, take standing breaks at your job. Remember to have a positive open mind when it comes to exercise so that you can allow the benefits of the endorphins to lower your stress level.

It sounds like you are definitely getting in enough exercise and are cross training appropriately. I believe that if you made an effort to learn a little more about sports nutrition you could benefit substantially. We have an amazing Diet Logic Program available at Shapes Total Fitness that can help you to break your plateaus and improve an aging metabolism.

Many of us are teachers, but the answer isn't that simple. I assume you intended to say people need to take control of their lifestyles. That people need to get back to basics, like resisting eating out as often, planning meals at home and packing brown bags for lunch and adding exercise into their daily activities etc. Weight management is not rocket science, but it is more complex than 1st grade science. Oh, if it were only that simple. There is no one size fits all answer to the complex puzzle. But, if we put ourselves first and prioritize our health, we would do the above.
