If when you are 20 years old you start putting a percentage of your salary into an investment account every week, by the time you are 62 you will have a substantial pile of money from which to draw. YOUR MONEY. That is what you are calling "double dipping". Should you lose that money because you continue to work? Should someone else decide what you can do with your own money because you still earn a salary? All of you who are yelling about "double dipping" would think that your money is your money whether or not you leave it in the bank or take it out.

Finally, a forum that allows anonymous postings as this one does, serves only to encourage lies, innuendo, and incivility.

Sell this true story to the hardworking people of Pasco County if you can. You can bet this is the last time I will vote for this greedy Republican.

I disagree. I've worked for the Clerk's office for over 8 years and don't know anyone who fears Mr. Pittman. It's a great place to work. As for him only showing up a couple hours a day, with todays technology, a lot of people work from home. The reporter didn't bother to mention that he's in constant contact with the office at all times. Computers and cell phones have been around for a few years now, people don't have to be in the office to do their job.
He thinks technology is great. You'd probably see him at the "All you can eat buffet with his laptop using wi-fi! Watch out... not to get BBQ wings grease on the cell phone!

No more Republicans time for change. Look at the country, high prices, high unemployment, recession, home forclosures, tax breaks for the rich, corruption and a war we can't win nothing positive.

Fire his butt now....just who is performing the important Clerk of the Court duties, anyway? And if the job can be done part time, his salary should reflect that fact. What a crook....this is shameful.

you really need to do a follow up to this story and tell the whole story. you made mr. pittman come off as a crook because you arent telling all the facts. the reason people are all upset about him is because all that they know is what you have said. why dont you try showing the whole picture. show what it is that he has done for the 30+ years to earn his retirement. interview the people who actually know and work with him. i think youll find a very different story when you get the whole picture. you have manipulated the facts to make someone look bad. you could do that to anyone that doesnt mean that thats who they are. i think that this news station should be ashamed for airing such a gross manipulation of the facts.

What does it matter what he has done. He should just be doing his job. Has he done something over and above what he was supposed to do? Has he implemented something that has advanced that office function more than what anyone else does? Probably not.

Look I don't think anyone is saying he is a bad guy because anyone else in his position that could get away with it would probably do it. But, there are circumstances like working from home (frequently/all of the time) that raise eyebrows for someone that makes that kind of money in a public office of over 400 people. Obviously whoever watches him may need to be investigated as well since they are the one that let's him get away with it.

I gurantee if you looked into any government office you would be sick to your stomach of the gross laziness and slackers that head up some (not all) of these offices. Especially the ones that are close to retiring for good. Those are the worst. They are just waiting it out and not wanting to stir up anything or start something new.

This whole story is a lie.
This whole story is filled with half truths.
Mr. Pittman is a very hard working clerk. What do you thing he should be doing as the chief executive of his office. Do you think he is doing the clerical work? Cashiering, clerking trials? Geezz. He is the chief executive. He makes and sets policy. He makes all the critical decisions it takes on a daily basis to run any large organization. Do you think the man has to be at the counter or his desk to do the job. If you do, then you are an idiot. He has a very large well trained, dedicated staff that knows how to handle the daily business. He has highly trained executives that manage the daily business. Maybe the lack of knowledge about what the man should be doing is clouding many peoples judgement. You may not understand the roll that a chief executive in an orgaization is supposed to play. He is not getting away with anything. He is not doing anything immoral or unethical. He is collecting benefits the state pension plan has put in place. Do you turn down benefits from your employer. "No thanks, I don't want a pension plan, I don't want medical insurance, I don't want paid vacations, I don't want a raise" Of course you don't, you would be a damn fool to turn them down. Are people at the courthouse upset, yes they are. They are upset that channel 10 and Deeson attacked their boss. They are upset that the media is trying to ruin a good mans long and distinguished career. They are upset that you did a lengthy interview and then pieced it together to get the worst possible reaction out of the public. You should be ashamed of this story and probably the many others just like it that you have done. I am all for seeking out corruption and waste in government. The story you tell needs to be the truth and not fabricated half truths. You have done a disservice to Mr. Pittman and his office, you have done a disservice to ethical news reporters everywhere.

First off, the people bashing Mr. Pittman do not know about him. He is a kind, generous, considerate person. He deserves EVERY penny that he has got. We work hard for our money, many times more than 37.5 hours. The 40 hours, where does that come from? A person that was not a FULL TIME employee?
I think the disgruntled - ex- employee, possibly a temporary employee that had the guts to go to Mike Deeson should come forward. If what you are saying is true about Mr. Pittman, why do you hide behind a black outfit and disguise your voice. Would you be surprised if we already know who you are? You should be ashamed of what you did. If you did your job, then you would still be there. but no, you take it out on our Boss, who has been at the Clerks Office for many years. He deserves everything he has got. If you all did not want him in office, why did you vote him in? Quit going on half truths and find out the real story behind Mr. Pittman. You will find a wonderful person and we at the Clerk's Office will stand behind him 100%. Revenge will get you no where!I just hope you can live with your self for causing such a mess.

I work for the Clerks Office and there is no one that is afraid of Mr. Pittman and the people that get fired deserve to get fired. One lady's post states she worked for the Clerk for 3 years. Talk to the people that have been there for 10, 20, and 30+years. Talk to the people who have left and then come back. If everyone was so terrified do you think they would continue to work there? Duh? Come on people. The Clerk’s Office is a great place to work and Mr. Pittman is a great boss. The Clerk’s Office is not just a place we all go to everyday for 7.5 hours. We are a family and it has nothing to do with “scratching backs”. Mr. Pittman genuinely cares about each and every one of his employees and we care about him and it is very upsetting to see someone that you care about being attacked. Mike Deeson is the one who should be ashamed. Instead of reporting on whether or not Mr. Pittman is in his office, why isn’t Mike Deeson reporting on the outstanding job that Mr. Pittman is doing and has done for the citizens of Pasco County for the past 32 years. Give him the praise and recognition that he has earned and justly deserves for his dedication and commitment to the Clerks Office, his employees and to Pasco County. Why not report to everyone on the millions of dollars that he gives back to the county at the end of each fiscal year. For those of you who do not know Mr. Pittman you should be ashamed of the posts that you have made on this site today. Mr. Pittman has done nothing wrong, immoral, or illegal, and does not deserve to be judged, crucified, and ridiculed by any of you. Jobs are performed everyday by telecommuters. Mr. Pittman does not have to come into his office to perform his job duties. Nor does he need to make any explanations why he may or may not be there. Maybe Mike Deeson should have called to make an appointment before coming in like any other person would have to do. If someone goes to Channel 10 to see him does he drop everything and if someone goes to Channel 10 and he isn’t there does that mean he isn’t working or doing his job???? Don’t be so quick to judge someone when you don’t have all the facts and keep in mind that what you have seen on TV is an edited version of a lengthy conversation and you only hear one side of the conversation. Why not play the entire interview so everyone knows what was really said? But, that no doubt would not be as sensational as what has been reported. Also, the “insider” is obviously confused because in the report it was stated “employees of the Clerk’s Office state they are required to work 40 hours a week”. The Clerk’s Office does not work a 40 hour week. As far as “double-dipping” anyone who works in the Florida Retirement System has the same benefits. Anyone who is receiving the benefits obviously has 30 years of service or is retirement age. Either way they have earned it and if they choose to continue to work why are you knocking them? How would money be saved? The jobs still need to be done. The retiree gets the retirement check and the employee gets the paycheck. Why not pay the people who have the experience and the knowledge. I personally want the person with the experience and the know how. I fully support Mr. Pittman and commend him for continuing to work and completing his final term in office and it will be a very sad day when we have to say good bye to him. MR. PITTMAN YOU ROCK!!!
A little freakin' hard to be afraid of a boss who NEVER SHOWS UP!!! Duh!

Well, it's nice to see that Pittman has put all that money he's making to use by paying all of these posters who are justifying his actions and trying to convince everyone how great of a job he's doing.

Too bad he didn't spend a little of that money on gastric bypass surgery .... oh wait...his health care is free...ummmm, maybe he should have bought a gym membership and a personal trainer.

Get up off your lazy fat azz and go to work!!

YOU CAN'T DO A GOOD JOB IF YOU ONLY SHOW UP EVERY 44 DAYS! You can't spin that fact!

If you check, you will find the exact same thing happening in other places.. Manatee County Clerk of Court R.B. "Chips" Shore is another double dipping Clerk who rarely works to earn his cash cow pay from the taxpayers.

It's hard to believe with all the possible stories you could have done that you decided to badger a person who has served Pasco County many years and is currently in poor health. It is known Mr. Pittman is fighting diabetes and has to work around that disease in serving the county. He does a great job as usual. Mike Deeson is just another reason I don't watch Channel 10. This is bad reporting and not worth watching.

Agree! The bad and sad thing is that Mike Deeson believed this "Anonymous" person. Evidently he did not get his facts straight before he did this interview and aired it.
