How many homeowners left also? The cost of living in Connecticut is unbeleivable!! These businesses can make a lot more profit if they move out of Ct.

Most business's leaving Ct to do the exact same thing, usually down south, save approx 35% just to move........

I know a few family's leaving in the next few months, one left already....most are saving $3000.00 to $6000.00 per year just to move about 800 miles from here..........

People should start doing the math...you may be surprised..........

Correct, Hosed by the System. I left 11 years ago, make >250% Ct highest salary, pay NO state income tax, and property tax here is in the hundreds, with no auto property tax.

ALL Utilities, for a 2,500 sq foot home, average less than $250 per month.

Imagine the cost gap for a business using say, 100,000 sq feet!

You can add me to those who will be leaving this very expensive state. Have had enough of my tax dollars going to the welfare people. My utilities are ridiculous considering it's just me and I keep the heat in the winter down to 62 degrees. Enough is enough, to take a line from the Back Street Boys....bye, bye, bye...bye, bye.

We are always considered the richest state in the country but if you take Fairfield County out of the equation....we wouldn't be. As for your comment about a fourth job, well I am retired and sick of my tax money going to the welfare cases here in this state. The problem is, the more social programs you have, the more people who use them come here. They haven't figured that one out in Hartford.

A big problem is all the people who live outside their means. People are more concerned with how others perceive them and concentrate on getting the biggest houses, biggest cars, and nicest clothes. A lot of people going into foreclosure never should have gotten the homes that they live in. You have to look down the line towards your future and plan ahead, not look down the street at your neighbor and try to outdo them.

Correct, Murray. BTW, Ct ranks 11-12 states lower based on median income as opposed to often reported mean income.(And when you factor in the Cost of Living, CT doesn't look as rosey. Raw avg salaries don't include that in their calculations.)

Median means, in a group of 11 people, the 6th highest earner (5 >, 5 <, less he/she). Mean adds 11 pays up and divides by 11. When one adds GE's CEO in and simply changes denominator by 1, it skews the average.

Bob-from reading your posts I gather that you were once a CT resident. How did you come to live in TN? I am looking at different places in the country to live, looking to the south, perhaps the Carolinas or Florida since I am an avid cruiser. How do you like TN? What are the towns/cities I should consider checking out? Thanks for your help.

An ex-in law had worked in insurance industry in Ct, been downsized, moved to Tn, I started visting, loved the area, and saw a growing economy. So, one year later, in 97, I moved to this area.

If you want a low cost area that is also cosmopolitan (like the Southern Ct area), I'd recommend cities like Nashville, Knoxville, or the major cities in North Carolina, just to name a few. If your employment history is professional, contact the major agencies first, and they usually will be very informative even if you haven't moved yet.

Florida's economy is mostly low-wage tourist related. Tn has that rap, but Relocation America (corp relo "bible") named Nashville #1 city in USa 2 of last 5 years, plus 2 other times in top 5. We have a diverisifed corp hq/regional hq base.

You should, if possible, visit ares first, as taste regarding what each person looks for, is personal.

If living beyond my means means barley making enough for groceries and utilities, then my goodness you are so right....maybe we should all go on 1 meal a day and sit by candellight by night.

Bob, thanks for your fast reply. I have some cruises coming up but have been looking at areas to visit sometime in the late fall. A friend of mine who works for the TSA at the airport has been checking out Nashville. She would have been down there already but she was recently put on full time at the airport. She is hoping to get a transfer down to TN. Thanks again. :) Oh, by the way I know that when I move out of CT I'll be checking the online newspapers just to see what I am (not) missing.

Could be worse, buddy. You could live in New Haven, where your tax dollars help support illegal aliens, compliments of Mayor De-SUCK-ano.

True, Murray. I have both the Post and Courant in my favorites, but we have a super airport here, with Southwest having 50% of the flights, and if one use internet specials, BNA (Nashville) to Bradley is typically no more than $250-280 round-trip during weekdays.

BTW, Nashville traffic is heavier than suburbs, but not close to being as tough as Fairfield County I-95.

http://www.city-data.com/forum/nashville/

is a useful site..people share experiences, ideas, etc on their states/cities, it covers all 50 states, all major cities, the last part is simply there because I chose Nashville last time I surfed it.

You are 100% right. The idiots losing their houses had no business owning them in the first place
