Wow..you've got to be kidding me...But then I guess an advanced degree doesn't necessarily guarantee common sense.
This is a bizarre story and while I feel sorry for the parents who are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives, I really do have to question their parental decision making capabilities.
I agree. I don"t care how many degrees you have,If you don"t apply Common Sense with them,They"re worth nothing. It"s a tragic shame they had lose a baby to learn this. May God take care of the Baby.

Kid had no right being on a sailboat. There are much safer ways to teach your children about boating safety than sticking a three year old on a boat that has a high probability of tipping.
Very True, It"s not the instructors fault. You can blame the parents for this one. As a parent myself,I would have NEVER let one of my Daughters do something like that.

Yep, and Maria and her husband are with their child, and probably paying close attention to their child while on the water in their 30 footer.
Hobies are fast and quick handling., not the place for toddlers.
Perhaps the parents of the victim were waiting to tell their friends at the next cocktail party that their child already went to sailing school at age 3 .
So sad!
you are so right. It"s a Status Thing. & that poor baby paid for it.

Sadly, that'd be my guess too. Of course I don't know these parents, but I see it all the time among wealthy parents with "trophy children".

Why would any child under the age of 12 be on a boat being taught how to sail by an 18 year old??? These poeple with money need to realize that they don't have to outdo everyone. What's wrong with regular camp? Now look what has happened! Not only is a little girl gone, 2 other children are traumatized as well as the 18 year old instructor. I feel very bad for the parents of all children involved, I really do. BUT....use your head. I wouldn't have an 18 year old take care of 3 small children in a pool, nevertheless on a boat!

The little girl got caught under the bought. Thats not the instructers fault. You cant help the fact that she was under the boat. The children did have life vests on. There was no way for the instructor to save her. This was not poor judgement by the parents. The parents wanted to teach their daughter boat saftey. Things happen. Yes, it is very sad.

Danielle, you are insane. I am sorry for the family, but the only one they have to blame is themselves. I grew up on the water and there is no way on God's green earth a 3 year old, no sorry two 3 years olds and a 6 year old, should have been on a cat taking sailing lessons, NO WAY!! Much easier and safer ways to teach your kids boating saftey. It was poor judgement on by the parents!!!

Doesn't the sailing school have a minimum age requirement for the clients??? W.T.F.??
I mean really,,,,. Betcha the owner of the school will now have a minimum age requirement, if it is still in business that is. Oh, and a skiff or a pram is quite a bit safer just by design alone, especially for those starting out under 10.
