I believe the young man is trying to generate funds in order to achieve his goal through the proper channels. I applaud his initiative and determination and I think this is what Elm City Punk Chick is stating as well.<quoted text>
Phooy. These kids have no respect for anyone, and obviously from most of the comments most of society is all about themselves and has no respect for anyone else. If I wanted to hear screaming and yelling I'd build next to a stadium. I don't. How can you possilby argue that it's OK to ANYTHING to property that isn't yours????? I don't care HOW constructive an activity is, you can't teach children that it's somehow OK to decide that because you simply want something you can take it. That's the bottome line.
Using public land, albeit unsed, without authorization may not have been the best choice, but this kid is seeing the process through for something that deep down, causes no harm, and provides a healthy outlet for the youth. Whatever impact provides that kind of benefit seems worth the cost. I grew up with a "rustic" ballfield (unauthorized) next to my house and all the neighbors kids played hardball there. In all that time, there was NEVER a parent that spoke against it. Some of the adults would use it for chipping golf balls.
People have lost sight of what is really important. Instead of handing the kid a problem, the people who didn't want that wiffle-ball field on that lot should have recognized the overall good and maybe helped the kid locate a place for them to play. That's community. That's neighborhood.
I'd like to know if this kid has a fund established for his cause. I've got a donation for it.
