Why in the world is a 4 year old on a school bus to begin with???? Alone??? And ESPECIALLY a special needs child? What parents would allow such a thing?????

The way to solve this problem is to arrest the driver on a risk of injury to a minor (which it definitely is), revoke his driver license and give the bus company a $5,000 fine. If the police don't arrest this jerk there is definitely something wrong in the police department. Guarantee this problem will go away FAST. This is worst than leaving a child in the car to run into a store (arrested for risk of injury).

speechless.
Not once but twice this poor kid was left on the bus. Shame on that bus driver and shame on the bus company for hiring such an idiot.

I am a bus driver and I check my bus at least twice before I leave. I know where I work they would have fired the driver the first time it happened! And that is what should have been done, I blamed the bus company too for keeping this fool after the first time. He must have been in too much of a rush to care about the importance of checking to see if there were any kids left on. He should be arrested for risk of injury to a minor especially it being his 2nd time!

Oh this bus driver should be fired at the least!! They are supposed to walk to the back of the bus and hang the sign that says "this bus is empty" on the back window so you know they checked. Unacceptable!! Good thing she was not left there for too long. FIRED, NOTHING LESS!!!!

If this kid had has special needs, shouldn't he/she sit in the front of the bus. Or how about not ride the bus at all.
The bus driver should really walk down the isle to see if anyone is still on the bus though.

qoute from "common sense" - there are 2 forums for this one, so here is his qoute:

"Here we go again. Let's not start showing your teeth yet people. The girl is fine. Things happen. Don't overeact!"

easy for "common sense" to say, this action is totally unacceptable! the same child 2x no less! i am sure he wouldnt feel that way if it was his/her handicapped child on the bus!

A 4 year old on a school bus is actually very common. There are Pre-K programs that do pick up the kids on the busses. This gets them ready to ride the bus when they are in Kindergarten.
My thing is, why, if your child was left on the bus once, would you allow your child to ride the bus again? I most certainly would not.

Maybe because some parents NEED to get to work. My children take the bus only because the bus comes early enough to get me to work - Still I am 5 minutes or more late everyday. Some companies would fire employees for that. TIme are tough and keeping a job is tougher

I'm curious as to "why" no one would be waiting for this child at their designated "bus stop"? If they were... apparently this bus driver is blind no less too! Seems odd to me that this bus driver doesn't know "where" this child gets off the bus? They apparently need to fire this person since he doesn't know who or where these kids are supposed to get off! Poor excuse on his/or part.

Has anybody considered that a 4 year old can probably hide under a bus seat fairly easily? Or slip back onto the bus in the 10 minutes between when the driver got finished and she was found on the bus?

Given the lack of information in the story, we have no evidence that the driver did not make a check through the bus. Tracey mentions hanging a sign at the back of the bus to indicate it has been checked, but the article makes no mention that the driver failed to hang the sign.

I think the driver should of thoroughly checked the bus before they vacated it for the end of the shift. Thoroughly meaning the seats and the floors, just in case a child may be hiding. I think that it is the driver's responsibility to check, and the driver should be held accountable.

Get real folks, these are SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS! Its a horrible job that pays nothing, reserved for the very desperate. You get what you pay for. You want them to be bonded and have advanced degrees? Sounds like this child should have been on the ****-cart instead of on the regular bus anyway.
