such a tragedy. i still cant help but think it could've been avoided if the police responded quicker or at least sent someone to the house immediately when the call came in from the bank.

It is wonderful all the money being raised and all the memorial tributes being done for the Petit's. However, 7 years ago there were a mother and 2 children murdered in Guilford and there were no fundraisers, no memorial tributes for them. They don't even have headstones because they had no money. It's ashame how everyone 'does' for those with money, but forgets those of us without money.
I pray for Dr. Petit wife and his girls just as I do for Kitty, Kyle and Rachel. May they all rest in the same peace.

I agree this was a horrific crime but what about the crime against the citizens of the cities seems that this made even "People Magazine" and all because this was an afulent family from and afluent community
sorry had to get this off my chest i'll probably get flamed
I am tired of hearing the PETIT name

I'm with you on this one. I still can't help but think Dr. Petit had something to do with this. The first time I read the article I thought to myself, "This man probably was having an affair and wanted his family out of the way". God, I hope I'm wrong! If not, his story will make a great Lifetime movie!

Please, any of you who have responded with negative comments, please don't ever reproduce. It would be a shame to populate this world with more insensitive and ignorant people.

The horrific crime got the attention. The beauty of the children who learned to care about others at a young age got the attention. A man, whose life was shattered got the attention. Sue, Bob and Not Sympathetic...let's hope you don't believe in Kharma, because Hell's Gates just opened up for you.

Sue...pick another soap box to shout your ridiculous comparisons from. There is crime everywhere, however, don't begin to speak for others. I have given to plenty of charities, including this one. Don't make assumptions about what anyone does for those in need...

Sorry that a fire, some sexual assault and some murders don't live up to your definitions of deserving sympathy...but at least you aren't as much of a moron as BOB from Stratford. Lock your doors Stratford, there's a nut in town!

So, it is ok for this to go on and on, yet you never hear about the little girl from Stratford who was shot in Bridgeport while she was running down the street in cold blood. Beautiful little girl who ran screaming for her life, while a man chased her down and shot her 4 times. Does anyone even know who I am talking about? Is it fair that her father now has to suffer without her? Yet, you don't hear about this story all over the news every other day. It didn't make it into people magazine, because it happened in Bridgeport.

..WOW!!!Instead of people focusing on how our state reps are doing little to set manditory minimums for preditorial and violent offenders..you are focusing on the fact that an affluent member of our community is utilizing his resources to draw attention to the issue of growing and preventable violence in CT?It is horrendous when anyone is victimized by one of these animals... The mentality of anyone who "is sick of hearing" about victims rights may be one of the growing few who can be so blissfully ignorant. May you never experience the pain and loss so many of these families face from having the ones they love most taken away by one of these incidents. If you had the resources I hope you would do the same to try and contribute to prevention...Did YOU run in the heat this weekend to contribute to a cause for our communities?

I guess hell better make room for one more because I am tired of hearing the Petit name too. Just because it was a doctor that lost his family to crime it is all over the place even a year later. I know of many others that have lost loved ones to crimes and alot of those never made it to the news never mind still being broadcasted a year later.

My prayers go out to all the other families that have lost loved ones or have had loved ones injured do to crimes and for any other reason for that matter.

P.S. Drunk Driving is a crime...that is a reminder....you know who you are!!!!

One year later and the scum who did this remain behind bars instead of swinging from a tree....what is wrong with this system?..why must my taxes continue to be used to keep animals like this alive?...the system is BROKEN..it needs to be changed...when will the politicians understand this?my advice to everyone...buy a firearm for protection...God only knows..the police and the courts will not protect us.

Wahhh, wahhh, wahhhh, an easy assumption here is that you are one of those big mouths who love to tell everyone in your 'circle', if you have one, what to do. Enjoy your lil soapbox which is open to the public.

Such hatred. Not every crime out there will make the press, so why complain when something does? This man chose to do something that memorializes his family and it made the news Be glad it didn't happen to yours and YOU are planning a race or fundraiser.

This was a terrible crime just like all murders are. They deserve the death penalty. We need a MANDATORY three strikes law and in the interest of self-defence we need to pass a "castle" law.

The person who stands in the way of these laws is Michael Lawlor! Wake up East Haven and vote this criminal lover out of office!
