When I was a kid cartoons were ordered to be less violent because it was proven that kids copy what they see. That has never changed, but the amount of violence kids see on TV every day has skyrocketed. It has desensitized them.
If you know in your heart that violence is wrong, it should not be part of your entertainment. Take a stand, and don't allow it on your TV in your home at all. Saying you can't control what they watch is a cop-out. You are the grown-up, take control.
I raised my daughter this way, she was happier and healthier physically and spiritually (it has been proven that watching violence increases stress hormones and lowers the body's immune system), and now she is raising her kids the same way.

I got arrested for the same thing when i was a teen in the 80s. The judge made us pay for the damage and go to each home and personally apologize to the home owner. These kids are going to jail? That's too much. Make'em go apologize. Knock on the door of a home you vandalized...that made me never do it again.

1 There's actually never been even a correlation, let alone a causation, proved between violent media and violent action in children. Look, there's a legitimate debate about what kind of content should be available to children and what effect adult-oriented entertainment can have on kids, but that debate is cheapened when people like you make wild claims that have no basis in fact. |
The fact that you're ignorant to the results of studies done in the past doesn't mean they never took place. Actually, by the way you responded to that blog, it sounds like you are the product of said "adult-oriented entertainment" yourself. Not a pretty picture.
Hey "Pat", Sounds like you should stay away from the violent "adult entertainment" and do a little research before YOU make "wild claims" about what other people report. There HAS been plenty of research on this subject which HAS proven the link between bad behavior and violent viewing. |
Excuse me? You made the claim that violent media is a direct cause of violent behavior in children and claimed that this is a proven fact. I tried to politely point out that to my knowledge what research that has been carried out has been inconclusive; you responded by attacking me. If there has been plenty of research to prove you're right, I'd like to see it. So, please, post a few links to studies that prove you right. Otherwise I'll stick to calling your claims unfounded. |
To my knowledge, the studies done on violent media and its effect on children have not reached conclusive answers. If I'm wrong, post some links directing me to these studies you cite. Otherwise you're making completely baseless claims. And what gives you the right to attack my character? "Not a pretty picture"? At least I have the balls to post my name you stupid prick. |

According to the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY http://aacap.org/page.ww... Quote: there have been HUNDREDS of studies. Extensive viewing of television violence by children causes greater aggressiveness. Sometimes, watching a single violent program can increase aggressiveness. While TV violence is not the only cause of aggressive or violent behavior, it is clearly a SIGNIFICANT factor. Children may; become "immune" or numb to the horror of violence gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems imitate the violence they observe on television identify with certain characters, victims and/or victimizers |

so yeah, all the kids that got arrested are my friends. the joke didnt inspire their stupidity, its something they aparently wanted to do, and dane cook already had a silly name for it wich they applied to the situation. Its not like if dane cook told the joke a little differently by calling a drive by a d and b they would have done that. but as for now 4 of them have been in jail for about a week now
