even though this particular incident, the man was 19 and this comment does not apply to him, this is a reply to the comments that talk about teens and kids doing vandalism. lower the legal work age to 13 or 14 or when ever they enter high school, if they have enough energy to do hard work damaging things, why cant they go bag groceries or push carts or serve coffee, every dunkin donuts i go is always short people, whats the difference between 13 and 16. commenting on blah's comment about having no summer vacation, i would like to again see high school age kids go to school all year, i think they should learn early how the real world works, weekends off and maybe a few days extra around thanksgiving and christmas. no more 3 monthes off.

This kid obviously needed help a while back. Its not like going to Alternative is something kids sign up for. It all starts at home, some parenting and guidence wasn't there. Also, agree with the light pentalties. I take great pride in my MHS, and hate to see anyone deface it, and as a tax payer in Montville, I am etremely upset at how this will affect the new school year, the budget, the insurance premium, and overal moral of the town. This kid needs to pay for ALL the damages, and face legal penaties, maybe even counseling (something needed years ago).

Dear Mike,
The fact that you can say that that many children from a school like the one that YOU worked at a)shows that you never actually believed in any of the students, and b) shows that you actually orobably had no idea how to do your job. quite frankly, i am not surprised that high percentage of students from your school, with your negative attitude, ended up in jail. A program like these can be very sucessful, unfortunatly I believe that schools should not take the place of parenting. A school is for education, and the biggest service that alternative education offers is to work with children who have been continuously let down by both their families and/or the education system. Dont blame a school who each and every day cares about students who have fallen through the cracks, let the vandal take responsibility for his own actions. |

As a Montvile High graduate of 1968,I can only hope that young people that would do such things wake up and realize that they are not just striking back at the "system" in their convulated logic, but hurting all the students that truly value education.Shameful.
