What is this - the 4th person in the past year?

I can't understand why there are so many accidents in Stratford. The Metro North tracks run from NYC to New Haven through at least 11 Municipalities in Connecticut - yet it seems most collisions between a pedestrian and a train occur in Stratford. I don't believe the tracks are any more or less accessible here than anywhere else. It makes no sense. People need to understand that a train traveling anywhere from 60 to 100+mph leaves one little time to react. The lesson learned - stay off the tracks in the 1st place!

nice way to end your life

How did they get there??? Did they jump the fence or something? There's no reason for them to have been there. In the other place whre people kept getting hit there was (I beleive) a liquor store across the tracks. Where this happened there's a fence and a ~9' drop. There's nothing for them to go to if they were to cross the tracks. On one side is the fence, embankment, and the strip-mall, and on the other side is some industry.

Probably a suicide, and thats fine. End your life, just make sure you really want to do it. But please, be considerate of others. 230 people are late because you're too chicken to actually kill yourself yourself.

Ummm News Flash.... Trains cant steer... so heres your sign... oh yeah " YOU CANT FIX STUPID ! "

It's just sad that people still don't get it. Like someone already said, it not only affects everyone on the train who will now be hours late, but also the emergency responders that have to respond to this. Intentional or not, STAY OFF THE TRACKS.

First and foremost I am deeply saddened that again a person has died on a metro north track. It is a terrible tragedy. And my prayers are with the family. I also feel for they person driving that train and the passengers. All witnesses had to endure a live with this event forever. That being said, we must look at this issue with common sense. A person does not go in front of a speeding train unless they want to end their life or are high on drugs or alcohol. As I recall the last time this happened in Stratford a fence was erected to "protect" people from crossing. Town money might be better spent with police patrols. Lets educate, counsel and if necessary, prosecute people that are found on the tracks.

No, Dave, I think you don't get it. A person who wants to die is not about to think of how this affects anyone else. In fact, the more people affected, the better it is. The closest thought is probably, "Maybe they'll all be sorry when I'm gone."
I don't think you have an "accident" with a train (unless you're a small child or deaf/drunk) nor are you being "stupid." If you really want to end your life what options are open to you? Guns are not easy to come by, poisons are unreliable and often take too long to work, your doctor or your family won't help you, and hanging yourself is not easy to do either. Our society doesn't let us "check out" in any acceptable way. Trains are pretty efficient if they're moving fast enough. The pain is short-term and the likelihood of survival is slim. Stewie had it right except for the "be considerate of others" bit. A person bent on self-destruction won't have compassionate thoughts for others. |

here we learn that you shouldnt be on the train tracks; especially when theres a train coming right towards you. Chances are the person was suicidal

Maybe they were experiencing an iron deficiency and went for a walk to find some.

hes a quitter then

Its not the Stratford PDs responsibility to patrol the tracks, theres an MTA PD for such a reason. I'm inclined to agree with stewie.

let's not waste the time or the money. metro-north or amtrak could hire hundreds of police and have to raise ticket prices ten-fold to pay for them. we might as well then shut down the railroad because noone could afford to use it. people will just find another way if suicide is their intent. we could bankrupt ourselves protecting ourselves from ourselves and it still wouldn't be effective. let's spend our money helping people who want to live and have no choice in the matter, like the seriously ill and those who are injured by others. with the rest all we can do is tell them to be careful. |

Metro North cannot be held responsible for every poor soul that decides to end their lives or to break the law and trespass on private property in order to cross the tracks.
I have friends that live in the Seymour Ave area where Metro finally put up the fence. Can you believe that they still see people trying to climb the fence? Obviously they are not successful, but they still try so they can get to Stratford Ave instead of walking all the way around, unbelievable! |

didn't we all just know that was going to happen! someone will probably impale themselves on the fence and we will have to pay for that too. bad money after bad. where does this end? |

I'm surprised not to see that "Red Blooded Foamer" (Wallingford) and "Bridge Commander" haven't posted some more caustic comments like they usually do.
You see, these two dweebs are the "walking talking railroad encyclopedia" type foamers that think they are smarter than everybody else. "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged." |
