This whole thing should have been solved with some type of administrative action or punishment. To make a big deal out of a garden hose, shows that the department has an axe to grind. There have been policemen that have done far worse things than this, that didn't get arrested. Police are human, and humans make mistakes. Knowing "they were out to get him" made taking that hose a stupid thing to do. And I hear that this guy is an exemplary officer in the performance of his duties. This whole thing stinks, and on the matter of the NAACP getting involved will only make things worse. A lot of times the NAACP just looks for some issue to stick their noses into. It makes it look like this is some issue of oppression on blacks in general. This is a matter between this officer and the department management. NAACP, go talk to Sharpton if you can't find anything to do; he is sure to come up with something.

If it is ok for him to steal a garden hose, what is it NOT ok for him to steal?? If the cops didn't arrest him, posters would be claiming "the cops are just good old boys covering up for each other"....Ansonia cops who made 'the case' did so to "keep their own house clean"...so others wouldn't have to come in and clean it up for them..

Racism or the perception of racism does keep the NAACP, Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson employed. A lack of it would simply send them home and they are not going to allow that any time soon.
As you read this blog, it is apparent with some of the comments that some whites have not moved on. The chicken and watermelon comments are an excellent example of racist views, as well as some others. Some of you seem to be unhappy with your financial or employment situations and find it easy to insult minorities. That is not the right way, especially if you believe in a Christian God.

I hear lots of racism over this. As a white person who abhors racism and judges people by what they say and how they act, I'd break the rules of this blog if I told you all where to put it. The issue is a garden hose. Given no info about allegations of previous offences by Mustafa, I can think of ways to deal with this other than criminally. Those who would immediately approve of this arrest without knowing more than what's in the press better be careful of what they ask for, as their draconian attitudes may be pointed at them some day. Last time I checked, we're human. The police are doing a good job of keeping peace, and I don't see a need to hold everyone to every little human fault, or we'll ALL be in jail.

I am a Black female and I have been a victim of racism before and can relate to the small minded tactics of this kind in order to get rid of minorities. If the tables were turned I would love to see these same people give their comments again and I guarantee it would be different. small minded people give small minded answers. So Sad. I hope that this case is handled quickly and efficiently and the guy is returned to work.

As I read these comments, it is clear that many non-blacks are very angry with any NAACP action. Why? In terms of fairness, blacks typically receive less love (fairness/justice) than any other group so blacks are forced to question ridiculous crap like this which would remove one of the few black officers in that department.
