I lost my sister to a massive stroke in August 2005. She was 55, slim, ate well, and exercised (she still surfed). None of the doctors could give us any information as to why she had the stroke, and we have been bewildered about it ever since. She does not seem to fit the risk factors I see here. It has been devastating to our family not to be able to figure it out. Thank you.

This was a very informaative segment on Strokes. I learned a lot, my husband just had a mild stroke and did not even know it. But we see the effects, becasue he is still unstable and a lot slower thinking than he was. You should have more of these programs on to help inform the public more. Now, I know what to look for and am watching my husband very close and hoping and praying he doesn't have the BIG stroke. Thank You, Evelyn Walden

I was a patient on this video, the guy whose shirt was off in E R when they were putting electrodes on me.
I had massive strokes in 2004 at age 54, I was in the hospital six weeks..When I came out I was on a wheelchair, my vision was bad, my right side had collapsed, my hearing was bad, I had no memory, stamina, strength. Even my manhood went away.
I worked hard and I have recovered a lot of my abilities.
Today i can walk, drive, bowl in a league taking a walking approach, me eyesight and hearing are much better, not as good as they were but a lot better. I have memory, stamina, and strength back, and the other came back too.
I strongly advise pushing yourself, never give up. I loved it when Della Reese said that.
Thank You for bringing attention to this terrible problem.
Sincerely, Adrian

I lost my 22 year old daughter to a stoke and wished she had been given a chance to survive.

My husband had a stroke affecting his left side on June 30, 07. It has been difficult watching him, as he does his own exercises and refuses to let me help. He is 63 and worked part time, he feels he needs to get better right now so he can get back to work. I fear he will have another bigger stroke. He is walking good, but still has no use of his left arm. It gets stronger everyday, but still has a long way to go.

I had a stroke when I was 23 yrs. old. Let me tell you, it caused me to go back to my childhood days. I was very fortunate though, I had lots of people who loved me and helped me through it. I wouldn't survived if it wasn't for my parents and my whole family. My doctors said it was a combination of things that caused my stroke. It really causes you to wake up and realize what you have and what you can accomplish! I have had a child, a good job, and am going back to school to get a Physical Therapists' Assistant degree! Wish me luck!

My adopted Mum passed from a stroke and it was horrible. My birth Mum had a major stroke at 62, but survived with impairment. She had a "wet" stroke and they never found out a physical reason, the doctors said stress caused it. She didn't have any of the usual causes. I am an extremely anxious person. I am so afraid I will end up having a stroke, and end up impaired. That adds to the stress.
