Call the DCF call center. What moron gave you that info. You would get a better answer if you asked Ken. The DCF call center can barely answer current questions. The person should contact the Benefit Recovery Unit.

Well, if she DID use the program, she got something for nothing. Now she's being told that her FREE money was overpaid. She needs to shut her trap and PAY ME BACK.

So you have owed this money for 30 years lets go ahead and add the penalties and interest. Then I bet you stop whining about $66.

Apparently the woman is old enough to have worked sometime in her lifetime if she is on social security now.Give her a break, she needed the program and used it briefly. She paid for it by being a tax payer. Look at all those that have never held jobs and collect it by having one baby after another. Why are you not preaching to our children having children when they cant afford to take care of themselves let alone a baby!! Society is so eager to want want want from this woman and she probably already gave gave gave.

I think that it should be wrong for government to audit someone like that. Besides I thought they can only go back a certain amount of years for that.

I should say, if she owes, then it's good to pay it back. There should be a law about when to audit someone for that many years, especially if it's the DCF's fault for not keeping track of their stuff. Sometimes people don't know they get over paid and underpaid because they don't know the right questions to ask. DCF isn't very informative of giving straigh answers as they should. DCF should have been at some fault.

We shall see a different answer if this ever happened to you. Don't be so quick to judge.

Just throwing this out there, do you think welfare should be recollected later on in the recipient's taxes? So instead of handing out free money, it'd be like a low interest loan...

Absolutely... but just who do they collect from? The mom that is working a full time job and still needs a little help while the dead beat dad goes out there making summer kids? Some are here some are there. Is she 100% responsible for paying that back? Or do you think dear old daddy should pay back half of it? She didnt get herself pregnant... Sad thing is that more then half the people on the system cant get child supports regularly or pay them so who is suppossed to pay that "loan" back. It took me 11 years to finally get support for my child and I did it on my own. He paid for 2 years and dropped off the face of this earth and then when he was found he was court ordered to pay A DOLLAR A WEEK in back support.$4.00 a month isnt even worth the paper they print it on or the stamp to send it or the payroll of the person who prints it and cashes it for me. Would you want to takethat $4.00 from me every month? Go ahead and take it..It cost more in gas right now for me to go cash it.LOL!!!!!!!

$66 probably would have amounted to several hundred dollars 30 years ago. Unless thay tacked on interest over the years and the overpayment was originally around $10.

I say leave her alone. If they really want to look for food stamp overpayments, visit any one of the thousands of crime infested HUD communities in Jax.

You sound like quite the little EXPERT about DCF (AKA WELFARE).

Oh and btw I was not receiving any assistance but if I had been, I worked since the day I turned 15 so it is there be to used in a pinch just not for a lifetime in my opionion. The government hands out thousands of dollars to other countries around this world, so why is it wrong to help those in OUR own country? Leave the lady alone.

If she is having a hard time forking over 66 bucks, maybe she should be on welfare.

Obviously you failed to read the entire story. This woman is on Social Security, so $66 just may be a big deal for her, the checks usually aren't enough to make ends meet. My concern is why is the audit pulling up cases over 20 years old? Has the Florida Dept of Treasury not audited DCF system since then? Why send a debt collection notice to this woman, when there are blatant cases of welfare fraud that would generate more revenue than $66.
