Some parts of Jacksonville are starting to resemble war zones.

All these murders, all this mayhem,
what is going on?

Where is scott? Can't wait to see his comment. And what is the count so far? IF it's an innocent victim, then my prayers go out to their family.

OK, Rutherford, you have to do something NOW! This has got to stop. The innocent people of Jacksonville are tired of all the shootings and murdering. Maybe we need a Katrina type Hurricane to wipe out the bad areas and send these people back to New Orleans.
If you can't do something to stop it, maybe we need to recall the Sheriff and the mayor.

James you spew ignorant rantings. Sheriff Rutherford (obviously you are too ignorant to address him properly) is not a magician, he cannot wave a magic wand and make the crime go away. He has less manpower per capita than Sheriff McMillian had 20 years ago. The city has called for him to cut his budget when he needs more funds. State attorney Harry Shorstein and his group of embarrassment in his office turn the criminals loose faster than the officers can catch them. But yet the uninformed among us ( you being one) want to blame the Sheriff because it is easy any you are too stupid to do what really needs to be done.

The blame for all the "murders and mayhem" lies squarely on the parents of these gangsta thugs...the very people who created them didn't care enough to parent them. It's an endless cycle now. Sterilization is the only way to stop this now. The parents only care about the welfare and social assistance a child brings them, not the children themselves. What a sorry lot these people are!

Not so much Rutherford's fault... they cut funding and it's not like good ol' harry is doing anything by putting them back out on the streets to run amuck (<--- i probably didn't spell that right)... and no a hurricane would do anything but just run all the good people outta town and leave the thugs to run around wild.. do you remember the aftermath of people breaking into stores and stealing, beating and killing because they were so desperate? What we need is an island to ship the bastards off too once they are caught and leave em there to kill each other... Population control and gets em all away from the innocent people!

James, let me assure you that very very few innocent people of Jacksonville are suffering from the shootings and murdering. Most of the murders in Jacksonville are thug on thug who are fighting their drug war. Our sheriff has little control over this behavior.

OK, here is something Rutherford can do. He can take an apartment from these high crime complexes and put two officers on duty 24/7 for each shift. It worked in Mobile, AL, crime dropped dramatically after this approach. Cost to the city, nothing. You don't need more money, ride around and see the patrol cars parked behind shopping centers not patrolling anything. Start roadblocks and checking for license and registration, most hoodlums don't have any, and when they act nervous, then you have probable cause for searching the vehicle. Not all is his fault, the state attorney needs to start prosecuting to the max, stop plea deals with murderers, if they kill, they get the death penalty, no ifs, ands, or buts. Other criminals, need to be punished, not a life of luxury in prison or jail, take away their rights, they don't deserve any.

When they attack an innocent person pumping gas to steal their car, robbing and shooting an innocent person who is opening a store, robbing people at shopping centers at gunpoint, shooting through walls and windows and killing innocent children, then you tell me who's suffering?

I totally agree with you in regards to leadership doing nothing to intervene on behalf of the city. Talking cost nothing: action does. Why would they want to step up and do anything about the city being in chaos: its not happening to them, their love one, or family and friends.
This gentleman that is fighting for his life was in the middle of robbing the owner. The owneer happened to come home to catch him in the house.
It is extremely easy for people to be judgememtal becasue they dont know. All we can do is pray for the city of Jacksonville and pray for new leadership.

<-- this is why they aren't doing anything about it... COST!!!!! and yes, by the way, it is some of their friends (fellow officers getting shot in the line of duty)and you can't tell if they are family.. no one was saying anything about this guy being innocent but in general, innocent people are paying for the lack of funding available and for the S.A. who doesn't hold these criminals accountable for their actions and gives them a slap on the wrist and asks them if they are going to promise to be good... YAH FREAKING RIGHT!!!

Hmmmm, allow me to respond to your posting to James. The Sheriff and Mayor plays a major role in the crime rate in the city of Jacksonville. You tell me what have you seen change in a poostive way in the last year to reduce crime (in the urban area's), and i'll tell you what i have seen change in the last five years in a postive way. It isn't good to lye the blame on anyone one person but the responsibilty of this city fall's on Rutherford. Another thing just because the budget was cut that does not relieve Rutherford of doing is job to the fullest. His duties may become more challenging, but he needs to think out side of box!!!!!!!!!

Do you know that he isn't doing his job to the fullest? Seriously... the city doesn't fall on Sheriff Rutherford... it falls on the city and the WHOLE LOT of them the run it... you are stupid to say that it is Rutherford who has to protect the city of Jacksonville... last time I checked, I think he answers to higher people on the food chain.. like oh i dunno... THE FRIGGIN MAYOR!! He has thought outside the box and even asked a community of people scared sh!tless to come forward with information but some people fear they are going to be shot for talking to a officer of the law... That isn't Rutherford's fault... that is the CITIES fault as a WHOLE GROUP!!!

Well, when I wrote to mayor Peyton about putting substations in the public housing complexes, he refered me to the Sheriff. My room mate is retired JSO and says that most of the time, the cops are to scared to go into these neighborhoods. If they are too scared, find someone thats not. Just because a committee says the office and city need more money, its just to scare the people into paying more fees and taxes. If worst comes to worst, have the FLorida National Guard come in and patrol for a few weeks.

Fair or not, the sheriff will ALWAYS be blamed when crime is up. That goes with the job. The mayor has other duties, but the sheriffs only job is to "protect and serve". I agree it's not his fault, but the public will always look to him for answers.

Sir, first let's be polite in conversing online. To call me stupid, i am far from that!!!!!
In regards to the citizens not talking, obviously you have never set in a courtroom testifing against someone and theyir enttre family is staring you down. These citizens have to go home and live in the community and face the music with the offenders family and friends.
To say that the city doesn't fall on Rutherford, then who does it fall on? The citizens can't run the city. They are on the other side of the fence. Rutherford holds the links to the fence. Rutherford knew the challenge of his job: so why not do it. Stop excusing Rutherford's poor duties.
Are you a buddy of Rutherford or a relative?
