You see he could not believe that humans had not existed for millions of years because it went against his leaders views on the bible which say the earth is only several thousands of years old. I guess it depends on where you live. In Utah society Catholics would be a cult because they are small and believe things that are out of the mainstream Utah culture. Cult is a pretty flimsy word. It can mean almost anything.

you have to be 19 or younger right? you talk like an inmature youth without experience aka knowledge. Think about how in the box that Baptist is, no matter what you tell him he will either ignore it or find some excuse to justify his beliefs for fear of being wrong. This is what I see from the Mormons everyday! I am a person who question all beliefs and did extensive studies, soul searching and praying before I left the Mormon church and joined the Catholic faith. You probably where born in to it and decided it was right because it is what surounds you in Utah. is that really searching for God? take a step back and do some real research and some real praying and if you do so you will find that God does not recide in the LDS temple. Any how I am spending too much time of the sight and need to spend my time with my third child who will be born in a couple of days. Little John Paul, me and the rest of my family will pray for you! good luck!

Your assumptions are not very good. I am in my fifties. I almost have a Phd. I left the Mormon church for years and almost became either a Lutheran or a Catholic. I do not pretend to know you. Why do you pretend to know me. I agree my Baptist friend is in a box. I do not think we are in a box. I think we have both thought about it. I will also pray for you. Thank you for your prayers. Try not to judge people. You do not even know me. I grew up in Oregon not Utah.

I guess you have admitted defeat, but you are too proud to say it directly. It is good you are taking care of your family. Have you read the book the Sacred and the Profane?

Why do Evangelicals and Catholics think they are more educated than Mormons? Why do they think Mormons are stupid? The reality is Mormons are more educated than either Evangelical or Catholics. Anti Mormons read statements made in the past by Mormon leaders. Then they read explanations of those statements by former Mormons or ex Mormons. They never read explanations of those statements by Mormon experts. You must read Jeff Lindsey, Daniel Peterson, John Gee or other Mormon apologists to get both sides. The best anti Mormons are the Tanners. The best pro Mormons are not the leaders of the church. They are not talking in apologetic terms but are meant for mass consumption. Type in Jeff Lindsey, FARMS Mormon, FAIR Mormon to get intellectual answers. Compare intellectual to intellectual. Most Anti Mormons will not read FARMS. They are too chicken.

You will get same results if you have faith and believe that a big rock in the back yard is God and pray to it. Its all about the mental effects of faith and having something to rely on and believe in. Who wants to think that this is it.. live as best we can and then die. I myself try to do good and help folks when I can. I want to leave this place a bit better off than before I was born. And I do this not from religion but a humanity born from my own suffering.

The problem with your philosophy is that it has never created a voluntary community. Most humans need a community. Your solution would leave everybody alone. Ever hear of the live and let live church or the Atheist church or the big rock church. It does not work. I would argue it has not even workd for Unitarians who have simply become the liberal gay church and make othere feelunwelcome.

Mormons have built a community. Many have been helped by this community when they are in need. Once I got about $5,000 with now long forms or bureaucracy.

thats because all the rock worshipers have yet to be created and come together in a community. The Mormons and other religions have had a hundred or thousands of years to grow. Mark my words.. if they did a hundred years from now it would be the same

Your response seems to be invalid. Agnostics, Pagans, Atheists, Deists and others have been around way longer than Mormons. Still I see no evidence of a success of forming a community. Mormons formed a community without Government sponsorship, came up with unique ideas, these ideas have lasted almost 200 years. Further these ideas came from an ignorant teenager. No other religion can claim this. Mohammed was older, as was Ellen G White, and Russell. They also had more time to prepare things and they did research. Luther, Calvin and Arminius were state sponsored. I really do not think you realize the uniqueness of Mormonism.

Ellen G. White was about 19 when she began to write but what did she write about? Catholic apostosy, end of the world, seventh day worship, and vegitarianism. Hardly new concepts. Contrary to anti Mormon propaganda there is now some archeological and linguistic evidence for the Book of Mormon. Examples are Neum, Nahum, Bountiful, City of Lamanai, King Kish, chiasms, Hebraisms ect. See Jeff Lindsay for more examples. Ellen G. White can not make these claims.

"For I will honour those that honour me, and those that despise me will be slighted" (I Samuel 2:30)

THe Mormons are like everyone who honours God.

God has made this above promise and cannot go back on his word but will always perform his promises.

THerefore the Mormon Church can appear authentic.... from the surface.

AS with any respectable fascade, a reading of Gods word exposes falseness.

Which is why the Mormon Church subsribes to its own man made scriptures.

THe Bible on the other hand says

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.(II Tim 3:16)
