I've mentioned the testosterone patch to several people and I've only gotten positive responses from both men and women, anxious for the FDA to approve this patch called Intrinsa.
Is there anyone NOT interested in the so-called "Viagra for women", despite the claims it can help boost a sagging sex life?

Joy, why do you think we all get old? Do you really want some old fart huffing and puffing away on top of you whilst you count away the minutes? Do you think libido really matters when you can't remember your kid's names? What WAS I TALKING ABOUT? Oh, I hear the doorbell ringing...I'll be back...

Joy, how do you get to be in this study???? I need some serious help in this area. I have a loving husband who has been seriously patient with me over the last couple of years, but his patience is wearing thin - as is my confidence in my own body. I am 58 years old (two years ago I would have said 58 years young, the hot flashes I can put up with, the fatigue I can endure, but the TOTAL loss of libido is heartbreaking. I would do anything to have even a small amount back and I know that it would put a huge smile on my husband's face once more.

Although, I am still in my 40's, for the past few years I have been faced with hot flashes and a low libido. I have been married to same man for over 25 years who is very kind and patient. I too have a low libido and would like it to be better. If you hear of a study being conducted here in jacksonville, I would be very interested in knowing about it. This could make both me and my husband an even happier couple.

I am only 39 years old, but due to a large dermoidal cyst on on my only ovary (I was only born with one, but had two children without difficulty!), I had to have my ovary removed, which resulted in becoming Menopausal at age 37! I have also been taking low-dose HRT medication for the past year (didn't have hot flashes, but my physician thought it was a good idea to help prevent osteoporosis). I have also noticed a HUGE decrease in my libido, but then that could also be a result of being a stay-at-home mom to 3 & 5 year old boys! I forwarded my husband this article, I'm sure he'll want to order a case of them once they become available! LOL And for those who think it's all "old people" that menopause affects, it's not! I'm now 39, and my husband is 46, and we've only been married for 7 years...so it does happen!

My husband and I are both 56. His doctor prescribed Testosterone for him a couple of years ago. I couldn't keep up with him....if you know what I mean. So, at my check up last year, I told my gynocologist about it. He suggested that I try a low dose. I have and I am very please with the results from increased, satisfying sex, and no problems with menopause symptoms. It works. It is an alcohol based product that is applied on the inner thighs for females and on the chest for men.

My wife and I had been having this difficulty. Her obgyn prescribed a testosterone cream (or spray) which was made up by our compound pharmacist. You don't have to wait for a patch. This is here today and it does work!

I might have been one of the first women from the Jacksonville area to telephone the toll-free number when I heard their radio advertisement one Sunday a while back. My hubby was in the car with me heading to tailgating for a Jaguars football game. To be in this study, there are a number of "tests" which the women need to pass with normal results--urine sample first to rule-out the chance of a pregnancy [yes!], vitals, blood work [only 2 tubes I think, but several panels], pelvic, pap, uterus ultrasound, mammo, and last but not the least an in-office endometrial biopsy!!! That last one was the most memorable. I'm awaiting word on the mammo being normal ... and then hopefully I'll be trying the actual testosterone patch. I'm more of the type that likes a patch--not a cream or pill.

Kaycee, I have good news and bad news.
The bad news, is that Dr. Kaunitz and the other doctors working on this study have completed the recruitment process. The good news is that with this latest study, researchers believe the FDA will have all it needs to approve the patch.

Laura, you are a riot!
I've never heard that point of view explained so vividly.
However, perhaps the patch will stop a woman from, as you say "counting away the minutes" while being intimate with her husband.
The patch could even have the woman encouragin intimacy.

Thanks so much to all of you who are chatting with me on line!
For those of you looking for help, check out the comment by "Joe from Skelltown, TX".
He and his wife have found another option, so you may not have to wait more than a year for the results of the Intrinsa study.

The newscast said it was available in Europe. Under what name? My wife is going abroad soon and would like to know what it is called there.

Hi, Jim.
Overseas it's under the same name Intrinsa, made by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals.

I tried the progesterone cream without ANY increase in drive. My skin seems better. I can live with some wrinkles, I can't live without the spectacular OOOOMPH I finally found with the right partner. I can't believe anyone with as strong a libido as mine, could go from "60 to 0" in one year. I can't wait for the release of Intrinsa. Neither can my sweet husband.

You can get the benefits of testosterone NOW!!!

You can get testosterone cream now, by prescription, from a compounding pharmacy. They are not a regular pharmacy. They compound specialized formulas.

Google "Compounding pharmacies" +your state, to find one in your area. Talk to your doctor and find out what the normal dose is for the cream. The FDA hasn't approved a patch in a dose appropriate for women yet. Testosterone also improves mood and gives you confidence.

Educate yourself! You don't have to wait for a patch.

Thanks Joy! This getting old stuff is NOT for sissy's! I have a really fun group of friends who are all in the 50 to 70 yrs old range and they are a HOOT! I get my best lines from them. Believe me when I say that we have talked about the loss of libido and the up/down side of that fact of life. Enhancing one's hormones is not for everyone, yet it can be a lifesaver for some. I wish you all well and look forward to more comments with which to enjoy. Peace this holiday season. By the way, did you notice how long it took me to realize there was a response to this thread! OH there goes the doorbell again,,,,I'll be back...:)
